Simply loved this review. I would agree that the original 1916 is a bit dated but I like you love that stuff. And who wouldn't want a bit of the Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra vibe going on? I also love Essenza and you hit it right on the head with your take on it. Now then ...Let the Games Begin!
@@thetlcosta Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia is supposed to be a very close match, and is supposed to last longer, and is much cheaper. I'm just about to blind buy a bottle, 100ml for £20. For that price you can't go wrong.
Great video my favorite from this line is ADP intensa from 2007 when both Demashi and alberto M worked together and made that master of a fragrace love it very much
Great video, and that interview was hilarious. I am a fan of retro and barbershop style fragrances, it reminds me of a time when men's fragrances were actually masculine. I bought Lapidus pour Homme because of you, aggressive but it gets good after a few hours. I may get ADP Essenza because of you, now.
Good review. Essenza is one of my favorite fragrances. A clean beautiful. citrus opening. That becomes slightly herbal in the nicest way during the dry down. A great masculine fragrance that gives me an uplifting feeling while I wear it. Great for both work and going out at night. Just an amazingly classy fragrance. Three sprays and I get at least 6 hours of being able to smell this scent on me. After that it stays close to the skin for another hour or so. I like Colonia, but love Essenza.
I deeply love Colonia. Especially the opening which is illuminating. The Puckrik review is bang on. It is the scent and feel of humble confidence. For men that don’t need to shout to be noticed, or need to be noticed at all. This scent is all about you, and how you feel about you, which is its magic.
I have a bunch of Acqua di Parma's. But this one just struck me. It's amazing and so summery fresh. Of course I bought a big 180 ml bottle for this summer. What an amazing frag! I really like your classic fragrance reviews!
I am almost buying the Essenza, thanks to you. Still on the fence. Please review more of the Acqua di Parma House. Intensa, Intensa Oud, Leather, would be ones I'd be interested in learning your opinion about.
Wow. Spot on. Just recently discovered Acqua di Parma's classic original 1916 Colonia. Nice alternate, with my go-to Gentleman Givenchy. I will make a point to sample the Colonia Essenza now, after hearing your take. Thanks!
I just received my Essenza today. Don't know if the UK version is different the mine(Canada), but the notes listed are a bit different than yours. On the card that came in the box it's lists the notes and neroli is definitely listed. Mandarin is not listed but instead there's tangerine. Slightly different order too but I'm not sure that make any difference. Anyway great video as always, keep up the great work!
I like and own Essenza but last time I wore it the herbalness from it was kinda of annoying me a bit. The rosemary especially was too strong for my liking. Still a very good fragrance and maybe I had a not so good day with it. Great insight Dan. Have a nice Sunday... 😉
great review , got a 1ml tester today of essenza after seeing your review and love it !!!!! so have just ordered a 100 ml bottle , paid £76 which i think was a good price . could you review some of the cheap davidoff frags ,thanks .
Thanks for turning me onto this house Mr. Smelly. I just got a bunch of samples from them, is there an acqua di parma you'd recommend for cold weather? Besides Colonia leather, not a big fan of that one
Solid review! I'm hoping you could clarify a something for me. I first came across Acqua Di Parma about a year ago in a shopping mall. I wasn't really in any need for a new fragrance at the time but thought the bottle looked really classy so tried it anyway. It was the original Colonia and I loved it! I got a huge hit of lemon which instantly brought back memories of my vacation to Italy a few weeks earlier. I did some research on the brand and was pleasantly surprised to see it was indeed Italian! The only negative about the original Colonia that I tried was it didn't seem to last very long which would really annoy me when spending that much. Am I right in thinking that the Essenza version is very similar in smell but longer lasting? In which case its an obvious pick for me. I'm not expecting it to be exactly the same but it needs to be at least 80/90% the same (specifically the lemon) if that makes sense. Sorry about the essay. Obviously going out and testing them is out of the question right now and going on vacation this year seems unlikely. I'm hoping to purchase the Essenza to remind me of happier times lol.
lol...Call of Duty with Lanier...I will never watch his videos in quite the same way again. ;) P.S. Creepin' quickly towards that 5000 mark I noticed. Kudos, well deserved, despite you so rarely reviewing gourmands...(hint-hint...)
Mr Smelly I adore it. I love it's fusion of modern cool and old school vibe. I'll certainly be making a few more purchases from ADP. Also, after hearing you and Lanier raving about Fougere Royale I'm going in for the kill. Just missed out on that sweet All Beauty price though! Bugger.
Thanks for the comparison review. For me, I came to the same conclusions you have. I also use Assoluta and put that just above the Colonia. Accidentally, I found that if you layer Assoluta (2 sprays) with Fico di Amalfi or Bergamotto it seems to boost them very nicely. As for the online gaming - I had to give up because I broke my bat :-)
Dan, i´ve just decided to order Essenza ... havin´ Colonia Assoluta and 4711 ... am totally in love with that elegant classy citruses!!! hopefully Essenza will be even better !!! (like everybody says)
I like the freshness of the original but for some reason it is bothering my nose. maybe it has something to do with allergies. But it is the only scent to date that makes me sneeze on myself.
I bought ADP Colonia. I love the opening but when the lavender comes in, it smell like Glade or Ambi Pur Lavendar spray. It almost smells like Imperial Leather soap. It does smell like a grandma when Sandal Wood comes in; not the grandma at the bus stop, but the grandma who carries a birkin bag. I wish I bought essenza.
I doubt that someone who loves and appreciates Acqua di Parma would be interested in video games - even if chess...But, even more than your reviews, I appreciate your videos for your sense of humor.
I love the colonia. I have one of the older 50ml square bottles, and I love it. I just recently mixed/layered it with Guerlain Shalimar edt. I absolutely loved it. Try it, and tell me what you think. It carries the colonia a bit longer, and makes the citrus in shalimar last a little longer as well. The citrus opening in shalimar is what sold me on it to begin with, but the citrus fades a bit too quickly for me, so the colonia really does what I need it to do.
I can relate so much to the intro it's actually sad...when I'm playing Counter-Strike and someone kicks me for no reason....*raaaaage* haha I'd love to see you and Lanier playing Nazi Zombies! hahaha
I own Colonia Essenza and 4 other frags from Acqua di Parma and I really like them all. The longevity/performance is well above average for most of them on my skin, but I'd love it if they lasted longer. The fact that they are all Eau de Cologne is sad for a niche house. I guess they perform better in warmer climates so people living in the colder countries in Europe should wait till it's summer. I'm a new subscriber to your channel, but have been watching your vids for a while now. I don't wanna sound demanding since I just subscribed, but would love to see a review on Jacques Fath Pour L'Homme. I too, like old school, classic scents and I'm thinking of getting a bottle... plus it's real cheap. Cheers.
I haven't seen it around in any shops, but I did find it online at a very cheap price so I'll most probably have to blind buy it... but based on what I've read on Fragrantica and now your recommendation, I'm certain that I'll like it.
Excellent review, and I appreciate the clarity describing the fragrances. I own the Colonia Essenza and I could not agree more that it really feels old school, the floral tones are very strong, as strong as the citrus notes, which makes it feel like a fragrance more oriented to women than men. Frankly I would not wear this one, way too floral for a guy, but that is my opinion. I'll give mine to some grandma that may want it. I own other fragrances like Roja Parfums Elysium Cologne Parfum and although it contains floral and fruity notes, it feels manly and not old school. If you are more oriented to manly fragrances, these two are definitely a no, no no.
mate, you are hilarious but the funniest thing about it is that it was a chess game LMFAO you know that Lex is a gamer, you guys should do a collaboration video hahaha anyways going back to the fragrance I'm thinking about getting a bottle of acqua di parma and as a collector might as well just go with the original, btw the hype you start with the eau des missions de Couvent des mínimes raise the price now is like U$S 70 for the 500ml and U$S 40 for 100ml 😖 and since I'm writing a book here I have a question about the league, if I keep voting for the same fragrance, Does it collect more votes or is just one vote per person? I vote for Armani eau d'Aromas
Sounds good but I'll never smell them with their prices unless I get a decant! Anyhoo - voting Antaeus :) I've bought myself a bottle of it so I can finally get around to filming a review of it!
I have been wearing the Original for 3 weeks consecutively already. The reason why is because I love the notes of this fragrance. It is my favorite scent in the world. However, the longevity is really a issue. It fades on my skin in less than an hour, probably 45 mins. It is very unusual, and this problem makes me hard to wear it. I look forward to trying the Essenza. Hope the Ezzenza fixes the longevity issue that the original has.
After watching your vids I was dying to try this one out. So today I got the chance and I discovered something new about myself. I really don't like neroli
i much prefer essenza over colonia. i could never vibe with the original colonia as the rose really came to the fore in the dry down which which always irritated me.
One vote for Acqua di Gio Profumo, please. "The continuation of soap by other means is an interesting remark as cologne was traditionally of course splashed onto the hands after using the bathroom. The Essenza is definitely on my to buy list.
Dan, you really need to try Carthusia Numero Uno www.basenotes.net/fragrancereviews/fragrance/26123447 I've ordered an atomiser and I'll fill it with some from my bottle if you want to give it a try ?
original colonia 3/10 for me and I love dated.it's just cheap and anachronistic.essenza a definite 10/10 and along with intensa the 2 best of the acqua di parma line.
Christopher Cooper .......I did. Most reviews like it, not to mention the site that had it listed in the top 5 “must own”. To each his own, it’s not my cup of shit smelling tea.
Christopher Cooper .......yea, I wasn’t using my “smart brain” on this one ! Buying a fragrance without first smelling it, is kind of like pissing in the wind 😃. I did just buy Gaultier Le Male, Trump Success and went back to my roots with Dior Fahrenheit. I’ve owed Le Male and Fahrenheit before, but the super surprise was Trump’s....it absolutely out performs its price tag. The girl at Ulta wouldn’t tell me what it was until I smelled it...sad that nowadays politics squeezes its way into our Body Odor ....Lol....all that crap aside, it’s very nice 👍🏼 I’m wanting to dab into Oud fragrance....I’ve heard Hugo Boss “The Scent” is nice, but IM GOING TO SMELL IT FIRST 🤣
@@Super-J10 Haha. If you want some good (in my opinion) oud fragrances I suggest you try out Montale - Black aoud, Creed - Royal Oud, ADP - Colonia Oud. Best of luck
