There was to be no final, dramatic twist in a World Cup which has been full of joyous surprises and jaw-dropping late drama.
Twenty years after France won the first World Cup in its country's history, a youthful Les Bleus side beat Croatia 4-2 in Moscow to win football's most prestigious prize for the second time.

Some of the comments on here are funny! It's clear that the racists are triggered and hurt because France won! But here's the thing, only two players in the French squad were born outside of France lol. Do you say the same for an American ice hockey team that is mostly white? That was such a special moment to live... Everybody forgot about their problems for one night, whether you were French, from Morocco or Algeria we were all cheering together. I've had countless hugs, countless high fives, people were chasing us with flags, jumping on our car, we went through the city over and over pressing the honk like absolute madmen with 10 people on the car, that was just special! Merci les bleus J'oublierai jamais cette soirée !

It's funny because some black people in the french team are "more french" than the former french President Nicolas Sarkozy (his father was Hungarian), in other words some french players that are black (skin color) are "more french" than N. Sarkozy (former president, white guy) because their two parents were born in France. The French National Team is hardly representative of the ethnic make up of France so I'm not sure you are correct here. The result is the fruit of a clever talent management strategy that started in the 80s and intensified in the last two decades.We began recruiting our national team members in the troubled suburbs of large cities, often crime ridden immigrant areas. And a bunch of African teams also have players who have grown up in these areas of France (you can play for any team provided your have at least 1 grandparent from that country). France is basically doing what Brazil has always done, scout the favelas for football talents and invest in them. Except France is doing it on a much larger scale with even more money spent and less corruption than in Brazil. That has led the country to appear in 5 of the last 11 major international final and 3 wins. The challenge France is to work out if that recipe can be applied to other areas which would simultaneously strengthen the economy while improving the social climate.
