This might not have been the game that people wanted after San Andreas but the story and scale of this game is absolutely insane! There are so many memorable characters that you either love or you love to hate. GTA V is none of those things

I mean, I like Francis more than Derrick, man. Derrick ratted his friends in the past. He ratted one of his fellow members and at the end, got him killed. That old man was innocent but got killed. Derrick is a drunk bastard!!! Derrick would definitely betray you in a team mission where you have to steal something precious. He would definitely escape with the good when he will get the chance, leave behind his fellow members ambushed, arrested by cops while he escapes with the money. Then, puting the fellow people out of their misery because they want revenge for ratting them out. Francis is no good either. He is a very smart, intelligent and corrupted cop. But Francis never lied about the info about the gangsters he told Niko to assassinate. Francis was targeted by gangsters and blackmailed. He couldn't do it by himself because he would be straight off killed by those gangsters. So, he wanted someone like Niko to do his job. In a mission, Francis tells us to kill a kid gangsta. The kid seems innocent and when we save him. He comes back as a random character and tries to kill us. But Niko puts him out of his misery. Francis phoned us in that same mission and informed us that that gangsta kid will definitely lie to save himself. But he would eventually come back for his revenge. Sadly, the kid's plan didn't work out. He finally died. His fate was in the hands of Niko Bellic and it was death written on it. Francis is a corrupted bastard cop but he never ratted us out. He threatened us like he would put Niko down if he doesn't kill Derrick in that 50/50 mission. Also, Derrick definitely chose the wrong choice. Why would he call a Journalist to interview his family? His family is a crime family. If the secrets come out, all of them will be arrested. Packie would be arrested, Gerald and Francis too. Derrick was gonna tell all the secrets of his brothers to the Journalist. He would've revealed his crimes, Packie's crimes, Gerald's crimes and ruin Francis's police job if he spells out his crimes. Francis talked with Derrick about this but he didn't listen. Derrick didn't stop. He was ready to tell everything and Francis wouldn't have gotten his promotion. He is a corrupted bastard but I think he would done more good in Liberty City if he stays alive. A corrupted cop can take down corrupted gangsters by using a dangerous killer. The only innocent members of the Mcreary family are Kate and her mom.

In all honesty I shot Derrick because I saw Francis to be more useful. If you spare Francis he'll be able to make damn sure his family is protected. Gerry would be constantly trying to survive in the penitentiary if Francis was dead. The mom of the McReary's would be sent to a much more brutal end by the Albanians. Packie would've been in jail long time without bails and releases if his brother wasn't a cop. I'm not defending Francis I'm just looking at it from a different perspective. If your wondering why I didn't bring up Kate, it's because Roman's dream is the true ending.

I prefer killing Derrick because Francis is infinitely better equipped to take care of their Ma.

Yknow, even as a drug-riddled wreck with both past and present demons haunting him, Derrick still managed to have more integrity and care more about people (especially during the heist-scene where he's concerned about the victims) than mr. Slimeball Francis here. The only one of his brothers who's on the "side" of the law, yet almost manages to have a worse moral compass than them. And he always tries to convince Niko that "he's a good guy, he's the good one, he just makes mistakes (time and time again)", moreso trying to convince himself. Great character and dynamic, really. Makes the choice very ambiguous.

I think killing Francis is canonical. Packie mentions in V that he’s all his ma’s got left. If Derrick didn’t die right away, he would’ve done so eventually from his drug addiction. That said, keeping Roman alive over Kate had already been established as canon, so there’s also that. 😑

I listened to him and killed Derrick because he Pays $10,000 and also we get the ability to remove a 3 star wanted level. Note: if you call francis before execution, he pays $20,000.

In undertaker part it would have been cool to have the coffin open and then zoom in on Francis. Also if Derrick dies Francis is in the church cutscene.

Francis is right up there with Micah for the "Abject Piece of Shit in a Rockstar game" award.

Francis had the best missions. Realistic and without any crazy shootouts. I loved it ! On my first walkthrough I was shocked how good was the Call and Collect mission. Use of the phone in GTA IV was a game changer.

It's been discussed dozens of times, but here are MY reasons to kill Francis instead of Derrick: 1) Francis constantly threatened and blackmailed Nicko, while Derrick treated him with respect. 2) It seemed like their family would miss Derrick more. 3) When these two said, that they are not saint, Derrick seemed to be more sincere and repentant. 4) One crooked cop seemed to be worse for a society, than one junky crook. Especially if Francis would have become a commissioner.

Francis McReary is a scumbag, but to his credit he never betrays or backstabs Niko and was a man of his word, and helped him. He gives him cash, a car, and probably helped Niko stay out of trouble with the LCPD. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Francis kept helping Niko after the story. Easy choice to spare him.

Just how long would it be before he pays another assassin to kill Niko because of what he knows??? That's why I never let Francis see another day. Francis was one of the best characters in GTA 4 in my opinion, a terrible guy, hypocritical and just plain bad. Worst than many of the gangsters to be honest as he hides behind the fact that hes a cop, like Packie says he doesnt even realise how much of a crook he is, he is blinded by his own hero complex. GTA 4 had some great villains, very memorable, Dimitri Rascalov was the most memorable in my opinion, you couldnt wait to kill him. Francis is also memorable as are the likes of Ray Boccino and Jimmy Pegorino. GTA 5's villains were poor compared to GTA 4, the likes of Devin Weston or whatever he was called is very unmemorable in my opinion
