The REAL Rise of the Most Powerful Godfather | PART One 🌹
How the REAL Vito Corleone Became “The Godfather” | The Rise of Frank Costello
We all know Don Vito Corleone, The Godfather, the powerful mafia boss, known for his cunning and wisdom, intelligence and possessing an aura of power and respect. A charismatic leader that started with nothing, and then built an empire. All characteristics that powerful people aspire to possess. Essentially, in the world of the mafia, he was the “perfect don”, mastering the balance of controlling and pulling the strings of power, in both the streets and the criminal underworld.
But what if I told you there is ONE particular real life mobster that heavily inspired the character of Don Vito. A real don who relied more on his intelligence rather than muscle to get what he wanted.
This was the notorious Frank Costello, one of the original godfathers of the mafia. Alongside the likes of Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegal, Vito Genovese, Arnold Rothstein, Frank Costello would be an essential player in creating something quite extraordinary. They managed to somehow organise crime. Going from running small bootlegging operations to controlling entire cities and spreading their influence even abroad. A newer and much more powerful criminal organisation the United States had ever seen...
Making offers they couldn't refuse, Costello would build a network of powerful people all owing him a favour. This allowed him to have judges, businessmen, politicians, officers, you name it, All In his pocket like nickels and dimes.
As boss Costello was now one of the most powerful men in New York, maybe even the country, enjoying all the luxuries and benefits that come with it. Unfortunately for him there does come a hefty price, and his biggest challenges were yet to come.

@@commentingpausedtoprotectus It had the impossible task of following the first two. While a good movie in it's own right, compared to the others, it just didn't have it. I like part 3, but think it was misunderstood. I've done a lot of research on the whole killing of Pope John Paul l and there is some merit to it. Although I'm not 100% sold on the idea of it being true. And if the mob was willing and possibly involved in killing JFK it's not out of the realm to think they wouldn't kill a pope.

Frank Costello’s reputation as the archetype of the perfect gangster is well warranted. Equally skilled at making money and diplomacy, two rare skills. Michael Franseze, the former capo regime of the Columbo family has also cited Frank Costello as his favorite Boss of the La Cosa Nostra.

Franseze had one huge scam that made millions. The gas tax plan. It was brilliant, but he was a spoiled and smart college boy. He was a racketeer but we don't know if he was ever a street guy. Did he ever put in the customary work to get his button? Doubt it. Sammy Gravano has zero respect for him. Franseze's father was the real gangster. We don't put much stock in what he says. He didn't like prison so now he uses the ultimate scam to make money. Born again evangelical Christianity. The biggest hustle.

You do your homework to come up with great content and you dive deep for information. Now we know that film doesn't exist of most of these men you are presenting, but your choice of video imagery is confusing. Sometimes you find an actor playing a real world gangster and use clips from a movie. But sometimes you confuse, like saying "Frank" and then showing Robert DeNiro playing Jewish bookie and oddsmaker Sam "Ace" Rothstein, who was 100% based on a real life man, Lefty Rosenthal, who retired to Florida after an assassination attempt. Why do you do that? Because Rosental's real first name was Frank? Boy, that's a stretch paisan! Still photos of Costello, even if you're required to use one more than once, would have been a better choice. Thanks for the great writing and narrating.
