This is Fred VII, the 2014 Robot Skills World Champion designed, programmed and built by Vex team 44, Green Egg Robotics to compete in the 2013-14 season. This is Green Egg Robotics' final robot competing at the High School level.

Most Teams now have no idea just how good 44A was back in the day. They were the equivalent of 229 or 9364 compared to other teams. Very phenomenal team. I hope all the team's members are doing good :)

For reference, the UVM robot getting pushed at 2:54 had an 8 motor drive. Amazing bot and season, GER.

I know it is an amazing thing to be able to design and work well but is a 2 speed transmission really worth it and will it actually help?

Thanks. We felt that with Toss Up it was very important to control the goals and to have torque in the drive to push other robots away from the goals. Also, to have the 2nd speed for driving quickly in the open field to get to balls was equally important. We found that this year the 2 speed transmission gave us an edge in tournaments over other robots. Some year's games warrant it more than others. We felt it was an important feature to have in Toss Up.

Does the custom ratcheting mechanism use springs? Are those legal?

Grant Kobes yes I think It does and they are most likely from the Vex clutches so they are legal
