Freddie Mercury A World Of His Own Sotheby’s Exhibition 4th August to 5th September 2023 New Bond Street London
This September, Sotheby’s will present Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the public and private realm of a global icon.
A world-renowned rock superstar, away from the stage Freddie Mercury was a deeply educated collector. Across six auctions, Sotheby’s reflects Freddie Mercury’s kaleidoscopic world of style and quality, spanning art, fashion, musical instruments, personal papers, possessions and photographs, furniture, and jewels, accrued over the course of fifty years.
This collection has been meticulously preserved at his beloved home at Garden Lodge for over three decades and displays a quality and diversity of works that are a testament not only to his manifold passions, but innate style, accomplished artistry, and brilliant mind.
The series of auctions is preceded by a month-long public exhibition which will immerse visitors in Freddie’s world, in a one-of-a-kind experience, allowing full access to some of the most exciting and rare examples of artefacts from a true legend of the 20th century.
This summer, step into Freddie Mercury’s personal world at Sotheby’s London for a once in a lifetime exhibition showcasing the personal collection of a global icon. In celebration of Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own, Sotheby’s New Bond Street galleries will be transformed with a month-long building takeover, featuring the collection which has remained at Freddie’s beloved home, Garden Lodge, for over three decades. In addition, there will be pop-up shops and restaurants inspired by Freddie himself.
London Exhibition | 4 August-5 September
Sotheby’s London, 34-35 New Bond St, London W1S 2RP
Exhibition free & open to the public, no booking required

It's sad that Freddie's splendid collection didn't end up in a museum

That is something he specifically said he absolutely did not want to happen to his belongings. He didn't want his precious items laid out for everyone to look at permanently. There was an interview somewhere, I think with Mary Austin, and that is discussed.

His love of felines is said to have begun in the 1970s when Mercury’s girlfriend Mary Austin bought them a pair of cute cats - Tom and Jerry. Freddie had ten cats - Dorothy, Tiffany, Tom, Jerry, Delilah, Goliath, Lily, Miko, Oscar and Romeo. Delilah became his favorite. Freddie also composed the song "Delilah".😼

I went here on 23/8/23 and only had an hour (as got lost on way) which I was so sad about so had to dash round taking as many photos as I could so really pleased with this video I get to see everything again and some that I missed. I’m writing this the day before the last of Freddie’s 3 auctions , I have already watched the first 3 last week and so sad to see many of these items here have all ready been sold. Even the estimates for the smaller hundred pound items went for thousands so I’m sad I can’t buy anything of his. I can understand that Freddie didn’t want his personal belongings in a museum but I think iconic items such as the bohemian lyrics and his piano and awards should stay with Queen 👑🎹🎤❤️

What I would do to get or touch something that Freddie owned. Having noted that, I would prefer something musical, like lyrics or insturments. As much as I love all the exquisite items from Freddie's house, I kinda of feel like we are invading his private space. He left us his music and all I really want is something from THAT music.

NO, she isn't a 'horrible woman'. She is now 72 and Freddie has been gone for almost 32 years. They broke up in the early 70's. Although I am sad to see his private stuff on sale, what do you think should happen? Freddie absolutely trusted her and she preserved these items for over 3 decades. She never betrayed him but I think she is looking at dealing with the end of her life. I cannot imagine the stress and pressure having to deal with a legend's items. She knew Freddie better than almost everyone and although I am sadden by this public display, she knows what she is doing. You do not get to call her "a horrible woman" Freddie loved and trusted her. It is time for her to move on too.
@mercuryangel5632
@mercuryangel5632 9 месяцев назад
@@stevemedlin1601 Freddie made it very clear that he DID NOT want a museaum. She is the only person who knows where his remains are buried, she NEVER betrayed him. BTW, all this stuff belongs to her and she had it for over 30 years. Stop judging!
@americandevo
@americandevo 8 месяцев назад
You are not very nice to judge and call the woman Freddie loved above all others a "horrible woman". Freddie left Mary with the responsibility of his home and contents. He told her in no uncertain terms had did NOT want his home; which was his private sanctuary to be turned into a museum. "Museums are full of dead things" Mary lived in Garden Lodge for 30 + years exactly as Freddie left it. She is now in her 70's and has decided it was not right to expect her children to bear the burden of looking after Freddie's things. They as well as she deserve to live a life of their own. If any museums want to BUY some of Freddie's things they can of course do so. I think it was a very hard decision for Mary to make and I applaud her. Auctioning Freddie's items on a world wide platform through Sotheby's will bring the most money of which most will be donated to the Phoenix Trust.
