Idk what you expect from a graduation performance. They weren't gonna jump up and bop their heads dancing because this wasn't that type of social event. But you can see in many of their facial expressions they were still very impressed.
@@MfckingDye I'm not asking for dancing. Yeah some head bobs. A few, "Whoos," and, "Yeahs," would have been nice. It lets the band know the crowd is feelin the misic. It would have also helped them get into it more, audience participation can be a fun part of the show.
@@Camothor10 Highschoolers playing it is pretty impressive. It’s not all that difficult of a song, but to be in highschool and not choke much at all under the pressure of everyone there is very impressive.
Faculty sitting there not realizing they are listening to a great performance of the greatest song ever written. That lead guitar player smokes it!! Amazing!!
Uh... David? You do realize that song was written and released in 1973, right? I'm 67 years old, and was a freshman in college when Freebird came out. I suspect I am older than most anyone in that faculty. This will come as a shock to you, but you and your pals did NOT invent sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. edited bekawz spilink is hrad.
How people were not up screaming and yelling during this awesome performance is beyond me….great job….and yes, you are Free now…..kick ass out there young men!
Lead guitar dude is a beast. I can play this song, and I know he is practically covering 3 guitars worth by himself. When I saw Skynyrd they always trade off parts on the solo. In fact, Skynyrd should hire him right now.
The fact that most of the staff and faculty just look miserable is a consolation to why our modern kids are so messed up. This was an absolutely incredible performance and if I was on that staff my head would have been rocking and a smile that could not be stopped would have been stretched across my face. Job well done men 👍
Hey Sam. Borderline shocking that this is still getting views like it is now. Been 12 years and everyone seems to be doing well! GL in architectural school boss!!! - Nick
Wow! Thanks for watching & thanks for your comments! I am the cameraman, roadie and super proud father of the lead guitarist. These 5 musicians all turned out to be great young men they should be proud of themselves I know I am!
This crowd just witness greatness and they’re just sitting their like sticks in the mud. Super tough song to even thing about attempting live and they killed it
@Jason I didn't kill any, how about you? I'm sure you didn't serve in the military. I served so YOU can have the freedom of speech to call me a baby killer. Semper Fidelis
omg if you ever feel miserable, just look at the faculty's faces, theyre listening to such fun and groovy music and they look like a relative just passed away
Awesome performance !!! they are all excellent musicians ! But the lead guitar is way above the other, except the drum. The drum guy has it all, the spirit the stage presence, I want to see him again in concert, playing ANY songs, he rocks !
Thanks to these Canadian guys, they did a great job, and I'm a Lynyrd Skynyard fan from the States. The 1st time I heard this was around November/December 1974, when I was on Okinawa with the United States Marine Corps. I knew it was going to be a HIT. Still played almost 50 years later. Stay safe and thanks Canada, you're great neighbors. Semper Fidelis from an old Marine Sergeant.
Great job by the whole band! Soloist and drummer killed it! Deserved the standing ovation!!! Too bad some of the people on stage didn't realize what a special event they were witnessing. You could see that one lady thinking, Crud how long does this thing go on? But there was also the guy in the back, straining so he could see, that was grinning ear to ear and he was getting into it!
I love the drummer, his smile when we all know what's about to happen lmao. Bass, rhythm, and vocals were great too. And of course the star of the show the lead guitar did not disappoint. This must've felt awesome
An excellent and amazing performance. Some of those parents really need to show some appreciation and respect for the tremendous talent that these kids displayed. They love rock music too! Sorry but the blonde haired woman behind the drummer as well as 10-20 other parents need to loosen up a bit!!
@@mikecantreed and you should keep your bad negative comments to yourself, he made a comment 7 years ago, acknowledging how awesome this performance was
Yes it is. Back in 1974, when this was a hit I was a 19 yr old United States Marine. I remember hearing the 1st, I knew it would be a hit. Thanks Kids and Semper Fi
@@usmc-veteran73-77 man I envy the previous generation when it comes to music. Nowadays, practically all the songs are mainly computer generated. And don't even get me started on the lyrics of some of these songs... If only I could go to a concert from back then... I always imagine what its like being in a stadium with acdc playing their iconic songs, or singing along with foreigners juke box hero, or of course going to see ledz or queen... All of the big one really (not necessarily rock either, I would die to go to an mj, Elton Jhon, Billy Joel etc concert).
@Battle Damage the music was great in the late 60s and 70s. I started out listening to rock n roll around 1967, when I was 12 yrs old. My favorite groups were Led Zeppelin, Elton John, The Spinners, Black Sabbath, ELO, Guess Who and The Who. As you can tell, I like very different music. LOL Again, we had some great music. Semper Fi
@@usmc-veteran73-77 great bands obviously... But if we're talking about the 60s then I prefer the latter. Niel diomond, creedence, Jefferson airplane, simond and Garfunkel... As specially if we're talking 1969.
It's sad people flip out when a musician is eccentric, and yet act like they are in coffins while this kid absolutely shreds on the guitar. In fact they were all great. The room shoulda been blastin.
It's been said below, but it's worth saying again: the staff sitting on the stage had no idea what they were witnessing. And that's a terrible shame. Great renditon. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
the joy in the men's section whenever the camera zooms out is so good. Love that person craning their neck in the back, to the right of the flag. I get the subdued reactions until the end but those smiles as they listen made up for them
Old video but jeez the lead has some serious talent. Assuming he’s an underclassman as well, by the fact he isn’t wearing robes, is even more impressive. Some people just got the gift
AHH, I turned 15 on the day Street Survivors was released. Three days later, OCT, 20, 1977, LS was no more. RVZ was a rock genius. It warms my heart to see the youngsters into LS. Great job.
@@googleusergp - I wish that were the case, but they seem to just not really feel comfortable. Like they don't even want to be there. Some of those weird, awkward, almost condescending smiles that some of them have, really piss me off.
This is one "Cool" school for letting them play..... "Freebird" I first Freebird late 1974 early 1975 when I on Okinawa when I was in the United States Marine Corps. I loved it then and love it now. I'm a big fan. Semper Fidelis
This looks like my buncha guys. I just graduated, and out of 603 graduates i can assure you that I would be the only one willing to attempt something like this. These guys freakin rocked it
Wow. I wish my graduation had a live band. These guys were amazing. No live performance has to sound exactly like studio material and they killed this cover! This will be a video and story to share with their kids. Thanks for sharing, I was literally clapping for you guys at the end.
Not much younger than I am, I suspect that these fine young lads in their day had cemented this ABSOLUTE rock classic into the minds of their fellow graduates in such a way that every time they hear that song... they are brought back to that day of success and growth... and I suspect they hold that dearly in their hearts. Presumptive, but none the less, I suspect it to be the case. Well done, lads. Hope you're finding great success now in your 30s. God bless ye.
This gave me goosebumps. I have heard and seen many renditions of this some from this to some of the roughest bars in Okinawa Japan. This has a certain element of a blast of freshness to it.
