Nah it was a huge song in Guitar Hero World Tour or GH5, that’s why I know the solo from memory, it’s an absolute beast of a song to play on GH and that was 2007-2009 era at its peak, so I am sure tons of kids learned it from that (like me).
They all say that they wanted it badly enough. Maybe the real talent is for song writing. Unfortunately the era of rock stars is over. You can get any music for free on the internet. New performers need to compete with the old groups. I just play my guitar for my own personal enjoyment.
NEVER underestimate the amount of time a teenager has on his hands to completely immerse himself in something...sometimes porn...sometimes video games...sometimes guitar playing.
I'm from Orange Park, Florida and I'm 66 years old, Skynyrd played at my High School when I was in the 10th grade. We had no Idea their music would still be played 50 years later. Thanks and great job.
I want to hear Lynyrd Skynyrd Gimme Three Steps want to hear Gladys caregivers Jesus mystery I want to hear Lynyrd Skynyrd Gimme Three Steps mister I want to hear Lynyrd Skynyrd Gimme Three Steps
Never thought I’d see a rickenbacker, les Paul, and a telecaster in a highschool band being used for free fucking bird. These guys are fucking legends.
Yeah, bass player delivered. Also appears to be a teacher or some part of school staff which makes it even more cool. You can bet the kids will always remember this guy who happily rocked out with them on stage at graduation.
I have a feeling the teachers appreciated that performance more than the students. Also look how happy the guitarists are at 8:28, they know they just killed it.
I think you're right. Except for the end, the "highest achieving" graduates on stage were sitting on their hands. The regular students gave a standing ovation!
the stiffs sitting in the back are your valetdectorians and kids that probably never heard a rock song in thieir lives lolol, the rest of the kids were cool
This feels like the ending of a movie where the guitar player has been bullied all year but he gets the strenght to prove he's worthy. When everyone stands up, credits.
"Free Bird" as a high school graduation song? Perfect. I like to hear people play with joy and these guys sure did. The great mystery is where are they now?
I have to say when that red headed young man broke out and started free wheeling the guitar part I started tearing up and wept all the way till the end. Such talent! I am amazed!
Today, this song is almost 50 years old. It does my old ears good to hear these young guys playing this music so faithfully. Schenectady, huh? OK. I guess New York is still doing a few things right. I met Billy Powell once. Salt of the earth. Cried myself to sleep in October of 1977.
As a fellow drummer myself, I have to give props for the absolute control this band's drummer has over the level he hits each drum and cymbal as to not overpower sound. Awesome 👍
As a giant Lynyrd Skynyrd fan these kids are great. Lead guitar was great drummer was really really good he looked like a young Artemus Pyle. Keep that music alive forever
Ronnie Van Zant would be raising his hand in appreciation to these you budding lads . Very guys , keep the guitar strings alive for the generations . You proved it can be done. Cheers 03/12/2022
From a 66 year old that bombed around in my 1968 Camaro back in 1974, and saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, NY back in 1975, this rendition on Free Bird was outstanding! Great job! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
As a fellow guitar 🎸 player and a father of high school children this was truly bad ass and as a dad I’m proud of how this generation has stepped up big time in the talent department.
As an old fart who has seen the original band plus the Steve Gaines/ Artimus Pyle lineup and later years with Gary, Rickey and Hughie on guitars, this is damn cool. Allen Collins would be proud. Y'all truly do it justice. Keyboards would be nice, but you have three fine guitar slingers so it's hardly missed. Outstanding job, gents. I hope to see you in a band rocking your asses off soon!
The look on the two guys in the middle right as they’re finishing the song truly encompass that feeling on stage, nailing a song, making the crowd roar. Just pure adrenaline and ecstasy
Julian Foster … Niskayuna NY. On the lead guitar.. He was INCREDIBLE.. also his fellow band mates they were just mind boggling good.. they blew the place up and people of all ages were crying it was so good. The principle was rocking out( he was literally grinning from ear to ear. These kids are all under super pressure at that school it’s a very intensely academically rigorous place. Their talent is reflective of how hard the kids in the schools there work. He is immensely talented.
It's official in my book....the '13 Niskayuna Seniors DO ROCK! OK...this was June 2013. I grad. hi school in Arizona in '73....so what is that...40 years earlier. Free Bird came out just a few months after I grad. hs in '73....and I saw the original band Lynyrd Skynyrd do it live in different shows maybe 5 or 6 times during the years after that. I've heard Free Bird probably 200K times in my life since, and I STILL dig it. And I'll be honest....when that redhaired lead guitar player hit those particularly tough licks at around 5:25....the hair on my 67 yr. old arms came STRAIGHT UP, I'm not joking. Those guys nailed it pretty damn good.....especially for 17-18 yr. olds. Man, I'm glad I surfed into this! Hopefully they ALL got laid that night.....and have all gone onto the sane and steady pursuit of their dreams as now mid to late 20's men...likely with families. God Bless that entire school. So wonderful to see guys so much younger that dig the heavy rock we Boomers burned lotsa ganga to then, lol.
Saw this group of young kids ostensibly going to play Free Bird and thought "oh man, this is gonna be ugly". Free Bird is an ambitious song to take on, and this group of young men did it proud. Kudos and super cool that younger people like good music. My oldest daughter is 24 now, sings and plays guitar in an all girl Aerosmith tribute band. They are pretty popular around Denver and have gigs almost every weekend in local bars. It all started when she was in middle school, listening to Justin Bieber and other awful crap. I brought her downstairs to the basement, sat her in the listening chair and subjected her to some high wattage Pink Floyd therapy with my bad ass audio system. She loves classic rock and has never been the same - LMAO
Let's not sleep on that bass player! Guitarists were awesome and that drummer was next level but that bass was so in tune with the rest of the band that it really brought the whole performance to the next level. Fly high brothers 🤟
I was fortunate enough to graduate high school in 1980. Rock music was heard through the country and enjoyed by us all. I never dreamed our generation of music would still be popular amongst the young generation of today. These kids gave me goosebumps and a smile from ear to ear. I couldn't sit still 😂. Please keep the greatest era of music to ever be alive and beating 💪😎✊ 👏👏👏
17 year old raised on classic rock... I used to poke fun at my dad and tell him he's old whenever he'd play this stuff. We'll call me an old woman now because this is all I listen to. Have a good day stranger and rock on. 😎
The way those guys were smiling up on that stage is one in a million. Nothing else like it. I’ve you’ve never been in there shoes I pray you feel it one day. It’s truly amazing.
This video gave me chills and a lump in my throat! Those young men totally kicked ass. How cool it must have been to be in that graduating class! My class of 86’ graduation was about as boring as anything could be.
Great stage presence! Not over the top showmanship, but they demand respect from the audience. Nobody left that performance untouched by their magic. Anybody know what happened to these guys?
Everyone would like to hear them again. It was PHENOMENAL. People were proud of them . The administration in stage was blown away rocking out reservedly.
I was in high school when that song was released. Listening to them play literally brought tears to my eyes. Amazing rendition. That was ten years ago. I hope these boys went on to do great things, musically or not. Beautiful.
Normally I don't like this song because I've overheard it so many times but these kids are really good and I even caught myself bobbing my head up and down as they started jamming. Very good job and props to the drummer. You need a good drummer to keep the beat going.
GREAT just GREAT!! Every time I hear this song for the past 50 years (70 now), I tear up. I have my reasons - and yes, it has to do with a girl, after I returned home from the war. But today when I heard these guys knock it out of the freekin park...I actually cried. Well done men!
I really like how the bassist is acting almost the same as the original on the live version, its a different Time and its still the big man of the group rocking out while playing the bass 🙂
dAAAAAAANG, put a big ole smile on my face when they started playing that guitar 🎸 can't stop smiling 😊 My husband is now in Heaven but he partied with Leonard Sknard back in the day in Jackson, Fla when they were just starting to go out on the road. RIP KENNY, Miss you more than you'll ever know!
this made me cry. the joy on their faces, their incredible talent, the bittersweet venue that is a high school graduation... can't imagine how cool and proud they must have felt performing this for their peers, parents, and teachers. they absolutely smashed it!!! Beautiful video
The school band played this song at my cousins graduation in 2019 in Deer Lodge Montana. I think the parents and teachers appreciated it more than the students. Great job guys
As a young fella myself, this is my favourite song no matter what tune comes on me, fair play lads class 👌 Edit I didn't know it was 9 years ago hope they're still rocking 🤘🤘🤘🤘
What an amazing cover of a brilliant song. All the boys and the teacher rocked, and to see the guys at the end facing each other and no doubt saying. We nailed it. Well done, all of you rocked and took the roof off
