I’ve been a boat owner all my life and I am 67 years old. You’re doing an awesome job on your boat. Especially the transom, I think your transom will last forever.
We complain about the heat down South , but , If I was going to do this I would be thankful it could be done outside during the winter warm gaps we have ! You are doing a far better job than the original boat manufacturer ! Your videos will bring value both to the work that was done and a testament to the boats integrity when you sell it . Later in life your kids & grand kids can be entertained on what Daddy or Grandpa did while he was young ! Lol
You disappeared on my list to watch (wonder why, hummmmmmm), had to hunt for ya. But you're back................ The boat is looking really good, esp for the first time, don't stay away so long.............
Not for hire,,,,, phenomenal job!!!!!!!!!you wear a lot of hats,,,,your MacGyver you’re quick on your feet.... love the drywall hatchet for putting knife while putting on the Bondo!!!!!!!!!!!!and a lot of people miss that,,,,McIver quick on your feet,,,, keep up the great work.... another old piece of history saved!!!!!! Now put it in the bathtub and see if it floats,,,, just kidding it’ll work stay warm stay healthy junk man two
Mike!! You did a *phenomenal* job my friend. Fiberglass is a P.I.T.A to work with. Even the pros struggle more than you did. I really like how you rounded the edge. The spark plug boot was a nice touch as well. I'm also glad you put the strap to use. Hope you're doing well. Take care and happy wrenching 🙂👍
Missed you also ! Lol. Nothing wrong with the way you did it ( I’ve done 5 of them so far ) and don’t worry about it coming apart , the transom is probably the strongest part of the boat now ! Don’t get to big on the drain holes because you still need the plug to be water tight ! Pay no attention to the people who say it’s wrong because it’s not , a bit unconventional but you reached the same goal and I always do the outside , the inside is cramped and harder to do the edges ! 👍
That was a bigger job than I had imagined. Never really worked on boats so interesting to see how a repair like this is done. You do great work and you never cease to amaze me at what you will tackle. Thanks for sharing your time and adventures. Peace
That is a very good looking boat project Sir. I have been working a few times fixing older smaller leisure boats, both wooden and fiberglass. I feel it is a pity that many good fiberglass boats have become a total maintenance&fix disaster because of rotten wood hull stringers and transom, while the rest of the boat is Ok. I get that material choice was not that wide some 40-50 years ago, but fiberglass does last a very long time. One of my "ships" is a 1973 vintage 13ft open with a rotten transom, as it is, only good as a rowing boat or run with a small engine. And I can not toss the boat in the bin.
You really need to keep up on the youtubesss because your pretty good and talented. Just my opinion..I mean your doing more than me as far as videos go hell and some lol. I really liked part 1 of the boat. You did some damn good work. So I was looking to see if you had anything new it's been a few since iv been on your channel 🤔
Great vid! I'm also a first time boat guy as far as doing anything like this-or outboards, grew up with homebuilt wood with inboards. My 2 CC's don't need anything done. My skiff, I spend most of my time in the bays in, does need some flooring. No soft spots but I think a couple spots are thinning. Never touched glass so I put it off the entire last year. Watching you do the transom as a first timer with glass, it's going to get done now. Thanks for the vid and all the pointers!
Nice tidy job there. I would have made a hell of a mess if I attempted that. Probably would have gone down like the Titanic me repairing the boat. Hope you get a good run on the water with it.
i once bought a old runabout from the 50's and replaced the floor stringers and transom in it. i think id rather take a boat out to the middle of the lake and put a 6 inch hole saw threw the bottom than do that again....lol
Hey buddy how's it going. Man it's awesome to see you back. I really have been missing your videos man. I know you probably needed a break especially with the holidays coming around. By the way Happy New Year to you and your family and I hope you had a safe one. This was an awesome video of watching you restored the boat. It looks like this is something new on the channel you are doing cuz I haven't seen any videos of you boating. I'm looking forward to watching you restored this boat and do a test run on the water with it. Question buddy do you like boating or do you do any boating with friends? I don't have a boat like this but I do a lot of kayaking which I love to do. Oh by the way do you have anymore stickers left? I would love to represent your Channel. I'm looking forward to supporting your journal for 2022. Good video buddy thank you for sharing & it's awesome to see your back cuz I love watching your videos.
Hey! I've never driven a boat. I have kayaks but I've only been out with them a few times. I'll hook you up with a sticker if you send me your address! I appreciate you watching!
@@NOT_FOR_HIRE okay but you have kayak before that's awesome man. I have a total of 9 kayaks for my family. I have a huge family a wife , 6 boys & a granddaughter that makes up 9 kayak. Ok I will send you my address cuz Yes I would love to have a sticker man thank you so much. Thank you so much for replying back I really appreciate that buddy.
nice job one thing before you put the flor in the boat i think you should put it in the water after you buckle the rest of the back up just to make sure its sealed nice and tight
Normally I don't criticize people but I'm going to criticize you I've done a hundred transoms I've done a lot of fiberglass in my life first of all you got to soak the fiberglass mat in resin when you put it on if that stays I'll be surprised number two you spray coat on gel coat you hardly ever rolled on and if you do roll it on you don't sand in between coats after you get it on real thick your wet sand and buff it I think if you would have googled how to do a transom and how to do gel coat you would have figured out it would have been a lot better sorry like I said I don't mean to criticize but I don't think that's going to last maybe one or two years but it will come apart
