50 mins of Sunday heaven with Mustie1. Coffee, no distractions, just wrenching n' fixn'. That was brilliant. The irony was that it being hard to get was probably the thing that stopped it screwing up the engine.

So a proctologist decides he wants to be a mechanic. During his first term there was a practical exam - rebuild a carburetor. He scored an A+++. On his exam the instructor had written: "You did a good job rebuilding the carb - I have never seen it done through the exhaust pipe before!" Looking forward to part 3...

This is how all my projects go. Gonna replace the seat. End up disassembling the engine block.

In the first year of my mechanics apprenticeship i was taking a the head of a series 2 jag and dropped a 5/16 bolt down the hole in the block/sump that the oil return or dipstick went into. I had to go out and buy myself a thin magnet. I stuck it down the hole and got it out on the first try. The head of the bolt just cleared the side of the hole and no more. The chance of it going down the hole was 1 in a 100. I got lucky that day. there have been times since that i haven't been that lucky and had to take things apart to insert something that didn't get put in. Here's another story. One of my work mates had bad habit of playing tricks on us . I had a transmission in pieces and had the little vitone balls that go into the valve body in the lid of a jar. He added one more and thought it was a great joke as i had to look in a manual to see where the balls went because i thought i'd only taken out 3. . He was putting a motor together a week later and had left the envelopes with the piston rings and wrist pin clips on his bench so i added an extra clip to the envelope after he had put the pistons and rods back in the motor. Then he tidied up before he put the head and sump on and found the clip in the envelope and pulled the pistons out again to check them cursing all the way. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

I live in Detroit and I've NEVER gotten any exhaust manifold bolts to come out without breaking. Especially on Onan engines. The luck is strong with you, sir.

Another Sunday, and another great Mustie1 video. I was raised on 60's and 70's Cub Cadets and have always been biased towards them (at least the IH models). This JD machine seems very well made. Looking forward to learning more about them as you go through this one.

I worked with a company where the engineers were required to assist in R&D to reduce design problems. The biggest result was ease of assembly and maintenance. After they spent long hours doing what you just survived a redesign was in order.

Definitely show the cleaning and detailing part. It's so satisfying.

It amazes me every time how you do something like this and never lose your temper. I get so angry doing these kind of things and have to take frequent smoke breaks. 🤣 Please show all the cleaning. I’d love to see this whole thing from start to finish.

I kept saying to myself - "try the magnet on the other valve caps you can get to!" but this was even better. Had a feeling the engine was coming out when you had to take apart the clutch lol. great vid Mustie, as always.

You have more patience than any human alive! I would have flipped out after about 10 seconds of probing for that cap. Someone could have learned more unknown and unheard words obtained for drinking WWII veterans that had only been uttered in combat and bars before. Great job! Since I found this channel, I am always waiting for the next video to get uploaded. I don't care what you are working on it is always interesting. I also like the fact that it is a longer video that hasn't been cut down and shows all the details. You really produce an extremely viewable video that I want to watch and enjoy. I have learned so much by watching as well.

My brother got me hooked on your videos and I can't wait to watch them and talk to him about each new video. We both texted each other to be sure and watch the 318 video. I had one of those tractors for years and was doing exactly as you predicted. I was telling you where the wheel release, and hour meter were. I couldn't wait to see you change the oil because of that silly oil valve. My dad worked at a machine shop and milled up a stainless steel bar with a T notch cut into it that we used to open and close the valve. When I traded that tractor I showed it to the salesman and he was so impressed by the wrench he bought it from me. My dad was a true problem solver, much like you. Love to learn, watch and participate in your videos.

I really enjoy your channel and your videos Mustie. In a world of disposable goods and " I'll just buy a new one ", you sir are a rare practitioner of a dying art. Watching your videos has not only taken me from " it's scary and I don't think I can do it " to " well it's broken, worst thing that can happen is it's still broken ", plus you've saved me and probably countless others a pile of money by fixing old rather than buying new. Now I want to go buy an old yard tractor ! lol

I've never been mechanical in my life. Car repairs, home repairs, you name it...always intimidated me and frustrated me. I binge watched a ton of your videos earlier this summer and now i have 4 1970's Honda Expresses in my garage! Two of them are now running! Also picked up a Suzuki TS100 that I have a coil on order for. A coil! What have I become!!! I told my wife this is my mid-life crisis...fixing things. Seriously...it is so satisfying to get something to run. Thanks for all the work you put into making these videos.

Since watching Mustie's videos, observing his process for figuring problems out and making repairs, I have been able to cut way back on visit's to my therapist. As an added bonus I get a kick out of his sense of humor and the endless stream of wisecracks.

Mustie, I had to laugh when you said "Well, that was easy!" after finally getting the valve cap out of the crank case. While you were probing with the magnet and screw driver through the front end, your light was in the way, so I kept tilting my head to the right to get a better view. Duh, it doesn't work that way when watching a video. The sad part is after I realized what I was doing, I caught myself doing it over and over.

I have watched about 15 or so hours of you4r videos last 3-4 days while in bed with a back problem and the more I watch the more fascinated by your work. Your patience, persistence and attention to detail are incredible and are what make your videos so amazing. No fast fixes for you, fix it right. You range of experience and knowledge are very broad and you make it look and sound SO simple. Keep up the great videos. Perfectionist is the best description I can think of.

So I had a Family Mustie1 moment. My younger brother was scrolling through is RU-vid feed while he was over yesterday and I asked him what he was watching. "checking out a few Mustie1 videos". And my reply was. "I love his channel!". And the next comment from my brother was. "Yeah I have learned that 90% of all small engine problems are solved by a carb rebuild". to which I laughed and confirmed the same. Was just glad to see that he and I both follow you.

I didn't expect this video to end with the engine sitting by itself on a workbench, but I'm kind of glad it did. Not for how much more work it is for you, but selfishly for this turning into a tractor disassembly, cleaning, repaint, repair, tune up, reassembly series. You're basically doing a restoration on this machine at this point, and it's awesome.

I just went through a 20 HP Onan. A very expensive proposition if I say so. But what an engine . The torque of that monster is shattering. Love those difficult to build Onans.

To me, there was total satisfaction when that little bugger fell out. I was glued to the screen wondering which of your inventive methods was going to be successful. And there was no way that thing wasn't coming out of there. Sheer determination, pure entertainment.

It's very satisfying to sit back in the air conditioning and watch someone do all the work. I do find myself answering your questions about "remembering the ground wire" and I put on my safety glasses when you told me to "watch my eyes." One evil thought occurred to me while you were looking for the missing valve cap, imagine an assembly engineer at the John Deere factory that would leave small things out of the engine to frustrate mechanics years later. Thanks for the video in all its detail and discovery.

Their is just something about a John Deere that just makes me want to love it,,, I think you made a great score on this one,, I would like to see you do a restoration on this one,, within reason of course,, :-)

The valve seats will loosen over time as the engine heats and cools causing the caps on the valve stems to fall off, you will have to peen around the seats to fix the problem,then hand lap the valves,this is a common problem with the onan engines, on some higher hour engines you have to do this process every few years. Most people don't know this.

When I was a kid (now 70) an old farmer showed me a trick to achieve exactly what your attempting to do with the magnet. He used a long piece of thin flat steel, then after he got it into place he used an old speaker magnet, applied it to the end of the steel piece and removed the broken part. Worked like a charm allowing the steel to be placed exactly where he needed it w/o sticking to the engine block of other cast parts as your seemed to do.

When he said "why would you do that?" About the clutch and plate. I suddenly had flashbacks of restorations long past, saying the exact same thing. Cheers musti still learning alot from ya and enjoying every minute.

Love the vids been watching for a long time. You may as well put rings and bearings in it since you have it tore down that far!

I do use my tongue to help me get stuff done. Almost bit my tongue off trying to help you get that part outta there. Nice suspenful video & congratulations on success 👍👌😜
