I love trading wedges. Generally I look for the breakout on the fourth complete touch, meaning that on the other side of the wedge price has been rejected three times. Then I use the measured move of what entered the wedge for the amount at the breakout. Its not 100% but with proper risk management I've been pretty consistent

It's more accurate to say he is using a penant, which is a horizontal (east) pointing triangle. A wedge is a triangle pointing NE or SE.

I feel like buying on support on a bullish stock in a wedge is a good strategy. I’ll test my theory myself but if it breaks through on the downside I could have a stop loss pretty close as it’s obviously not moving upward. I’m sure I’m not the only person to think this way but we’ll see what happens lol

Instead of plscing a stop loss on one side, wouldnt it be better to place a buy and sell trade in such circumstances? Since we wouldnt know which direction it will go, and if one is triggered we cancell the other. Then we wont have the risk of a loss

would it be smart to buy at the break of the resistance, but be more sure that you will get the breakout. Asking because this would prevent you from missing out on that last example where there was no retest. Would this be effective or am i missing something?

How do you know this is a wedge and not a pennant? On the second example there seemed to be a flag pole indicating a pennant, so is it just because there were more than 2 bounces off support and resistance?

It's a year later and I hope you'll reply.... But concerning waiting for a retest...isn't it possible to set buy stops and sell stops above and below the where the wedge will potentially end in order to prevent failing to catch a breakout because of lack of a retest?

Great stuff! I have a question in a downtrend when we see break of wedge to the downside but then after a break of the wedge to the downside the price goes up again into the wedge structure and breaks to the opposite side. What are your thoughts on this. it is happening a lot when am trading wedges. What are your thoughts on this ? :) thank you in advance.

Depending on the price rejection, support and resistance you take your trades, meaning by which when there is a breakout either on the downside or the upside wait for the price retest. once you confirm this you can go ahead.

Hi Nick. One question , if the triangle is making lower highs and higher lows wont that be called a symmetrical triangle. For a wedge pattern to appear wont the price action get narrower rather than making higher lows and lower highs the wedge makes a lower lows but one that is narrower.

I find wedges anticlimactic most of the time. After waiting for a very long time they finally breakout. The height or descent of the move is rather small in comparison most of the time. Once in awhile it will be around the height of the first leg into the wedge. Sometimes it’s a false breakout. Not only that but in the very beginning there is no way to even know it is forming a wedge. It’s after it has formed (or almost formed) that it’s recognizable.

You can most certainly determine which direction it's going to go, pay attention to how great wedge starts and you will see for your self

this is a good start for a beginner but there is much more than that. there are exact rules of how many (minimum) touches, direction of trend, structure or candlestick formation, when and where it is formed, measurement, confirmation, stoploss, takeprofit. all of these will improve your win rate. stop watching YT instead read a good forex trading book. all of these gurus have something to sell so. they are not interested in giving you the whole information.

This is an ascending triangle... not a rising wedge... rising wedges usually do a reversal trends.

FAHEEM MEMON retest is great option bcoz u buy or short around trendline I mostly put limit order at 50% of breakout candle if it doesn’t come to my price I don’t trade, bcoz u never know incase u entered at 2nd candle after breakout and it goes back to retest you miss those points

question or a challenge: when you drew the lower high trend line at 5:00, you did not link the highest prices, but one I cannot define. If you linked all the lower highest prices, your breakthrough and pull back test may be not there. Would you pleaes illustrate your theory again by linking the highest prices for lower highs? Thanks
