Paul Kossoff (Free guitarist) his unhappiness following the break up of Free and his drug addictions contributed to a drastic decline in his health. Kossoff died on a flight from Los Angeles to New York on 19 March 1976 age 25 from a pulmonary embolism after a blood clot in his leg moved to his lung, while touring America with Back Street Crawler. His body was returned to England and cremated at Golders Green Crematorium in North West London. His epitaph in the Summerhouse there reads: "All right now"
Yep, so many fabulous Free and Bad Company songs to discover. Paul Rodgers is such a fantastic lead singer and I always love how he fades many of their songs out
Such a glorious belter of a classic rock song. I very easily get tired of some music theses days and find myself going back to songs like this because they are so very good.
Thank you so much for reacting to this great band, great song. I have been suggesting this for months and months. Interestingly, Paul Rogers and Bad Company with Slash, performed this more recently. Again, a great performance.
I own the complete catalogue of only six bands, The Beatles, Cream, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Band Maid and Free so highly regarded in my mind. Another band that I was lucky to see live several times and their concert at The Royal Albert Hall in 1971, I think it was, is my second favourite concert of all time.
Oh man, I was born about 10 years too late for Free to see them live. Bad Company now they surely rocked. I love how Paul has kept his voice all these years! He’s the best imo.
frees first album "tons of sobs was heavy blues. they were 19, bass player was 16. wild indian woman was a ripper from tons of sobs. lots of great free tunes. by heartbreaker their bass player left (who co-wrote most free songs) and they added a keyboard player and new bass player. almost a pre bad company sound, as paul and drummer simon kirke formed bad company with mick ralphs of mott the hoople, and boz burrell of king crimson.
You need to see Mr. Big live to believe it! It’s such a great performance. Free live was so much better than studio versions. Just magnificent! Heartbreaker is a great song.
This was a revised version of Free, featuring a more sophisticated sound, and session players alongside the original duo of Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke. This album was pointing the way towards Bad Company, a slicker but less interesting band. Original guitar player, Paul Kossoff, was unwell during the recording of this album, possibly not a full-time member of the band, so the guitar playing on this album is often subdued within the overall production.
Try 'Come Together in the Morning' from the same album. Needs to be the original version from the 'Heartbreaker' album though. On later remixes, for some inexplicable reason, someone edited out the Paul Kossoff guitar solo. It remains the most hauntingly beautiful solo I have ever heard. Paul Rodgers vocal is immense and the moody interplay between bass, Hanmond organ and guitar is wonderful.
These guys in Free were all TEENS! But their music sounded so mature for their age. They sounded so seasoned and experienced. Incredibly GIFTED musicians!
andy frasier who was part of free later went on to start a band called THE SHARKS with Chris spedding you should try their song "Sophistication" of of thier album "Jab it in your eye" they have the free quality of rock sound
Paul Rodgers on vocals, can't really go wrong, his live performance of feel like making love is pretty good, although his short stint with queen didn't work out, but then again Freddie was pretty unique wasn't he
Freddie picked Paul as his favorite singer. Paul was great as always but Queen needs theatrical voice. Nothing more nothing less. Paul is my favorite of all time. Mick Jagger said he was the best too. The Voice.
Great song. A shame it isn't more widely known. You are playing a bit of Sherbet, they covered it on one of their live albums if you want to have a listen sometime. :)
Strangely enough you mention the guitar drifting in and out of the mix and although this sounds like the original single there are parts where it sounds like a remix .Free were a great band with a solid rhythm section .Give their tracks ,"Mr Big" and "My Brother Jake", a try .Keep up the good work .
Their guitarist - Paul Kossoff - was seriously addicted to drugs at this stage. They actually had to bring in another guitarist to finish the album. I'm a big fan of his but I agree that he could have come up with a way better solo here.
Really Really top draw quality track....so many bands of this era are lost to history....until a TV ADVERT uses the track.... Clearance Clearwater Revival also suffers from this until Hollywood puts one of their tracks on a Vietnam war movie.... then it’s all over the radio.
This was Free's notoriously troubled 2nd album and it would be their final one, due to Paul Kossoff's unbearable heroin use. As opposed to their first album they definitely take on a heavier, harder Rock tone here. This basically sounds like pre-Bad Company. This was the beginning of what was to be the Bad Company sound.
Anyone who knows this track knows it takes off into Hyperspace from Kossoff's middle8 onwards ; the ladies reaction from 3-50 onwards proves my theory , she's clearly a restrained personality ( no offence intended ) but it looks like every part of her is screaming to throw off the headphones / max the volume / and just go for broke ...... tell me Im wrong ! 😉 nah nah-nah /nah nah-nah / nah nah
@@hanierfamily I feel your pain ; I suffer from sciatica , which gets exacerbated by cold , damp weather . And , I live in the UK .... I think it's what you call a " win/win " situation . 😃 😉 .
We are quite familiar with that one. Cool Tune! Funny story. We learned of this song long after we heard Stillwater's 'Love Comes And Goes, which was Nancy Wilson's imitation of that song for the movie 'Almost Famous'. You should listen to that if you haven't seen the film. Very similar, on purpose. Well, I (Chris) think so.
@@hanierfamily paul joined jimmy page and formed the firm 1985-86. although page and rodgers performed together at the arms concert in 1983. great version of midnight moonlight, which later went on the first firm album. 1991 paul formed the law with kenny jones from the who and released one album
Kia ora hello my friends how are you doing? Cynthia i hope you've had some peace from the back pain. My back has been giving me jip all week at work every time i have to bend not lifting anything i can't straighten up again without needles shooting though my lower back and left hip and then i think about your situation and just think to myself harden up your lucky to be able to walk and others are looking down a barrel that could fire a totally debilitating bullet at anytime i hope that bullet doesn't come you're way Cynthia or is off aim and misses you . Take care of yourself and Chris Look out for your girl I'm sure you do but i know i pushed people away from me when the pain turns to total frastration I'm glad people understood i wasn't angry with them when I'd snap just having troubles dealing with internal issues in my head and body. SORRY that was a bit of a rant for a Sunday night take care I'll leave you guys alone now you can turn off ya bullshit filters 💩✌️👍🤘
I (Cynthia) really appreciate you for thinking about me. My back gets worse as the weather gets colder, so it's been pretty tough lately. However, I manage the pain fairly well and my family, especially Chris, are very helpful. I try not to think about the negative things that may happen later. I like to just focus on the positive things and keep moving forward. It is easy for anger and depression to take hold when you're always in pain, but I don't let it control me. Thanks again for your concern. Take care of yourself! I know it's tough.
@@hanierfamily wouldn't it be nice to have a painless day just wake up and be normal again like the people around us do things without having to think about it
