Thanks for the video, I'm currently building a coodercaster so I have to alter an already routed SSS strat body to fit the gold foil pickup which is hum bucket size and a Lollar Supro pickup which is massive, wasn't sure if I needed a small router or whether the stew mac router base would do the job, any ideas ?
Did you make the top or is it a thin plywood. I'm asking because a lot of people have a thing about plywood guitars. I'm making a semi hollow Strat body and I'm using 1/4" plywood for the top. It's nice looking birch with a decent grain. I know it's not convential but neither am I! Ha ha! Thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to do the routs soon. Any thoughts???👍😎🎸🎶
Hello, when u start routing the hole do you use the same tool on the router from the beginning?Or do you pre-drill an hole with another tool? Thanks so much, sorry about my English.
If I want it to sound bright, I'll position the pickup as close to the bridge as possible. If I want it to sound warmer, I'll move it further away, but usually no more than maybe half an inch.
Highline Guitars . Thanks I have assembled many a strat with humbucker. I have always Wondered what criteria the pick guard manufacturers (of humbucking routed pick guards) used. There's been a lot of talk about the magical two octave harmonic point for the pick up, but I haven't seen a lot of discussion on the placement of the bridge pick up. I know the closer to the bridge that brighter. I've always thought the Les Paul placement might be a good starting point. Although that is a shorter scale. Thanks again. love watching your work
Did you modify your router with the plexiglass base or did it come like that? I can't see well when I try to rout. I thought about making a new base from plexiglass. Thanks for any help!👍😎🎸🎶
@@HighlineGuitars cool! I think I'm going to try and modify mine and install a plegiglass plate so it will be better to see what I'm doing. Thanks!👍😎🎸🎶
It's a Makita and yes it still works. Most people don't know how to service a router. They often just need a new power switch or brushes, both of which are cheap and easy to replace.
These days I use a CNC machine. Wood doesn't know or care how it was cut or carved. Whether you use a rock and a Mastodon tooth or a CNC machine, the end result is the same. But guess which way is faster and cheaper to do?
@@HighlineGuitars you mean tone routering is make believe? Your router sounds like how I play violin and the Dremel sounds like a child shouting "nah no naaah" :-)
Good job so I have seen how to drill a hole for Battery box for my bass guitar. Thanks the vdo. app. and if you did with no templates without problem , I will try. Pagorn.
I know a guy who can freehand a complete guitar with little more than a belt sander and some files. But he uses a template anyway. Because he’s not an idiot.
How is it that two people doing the same thing in different ways, makes one an idiot? Are luthiers always this bad mannered and insulting to each other? If so, maybe I should become one. Then I can just tell the world to kiss my ass.
Did Stradivarius use a template and a router, dremel? Build them anyway you like. I use a 25 lb. sledge and a drywall hatchet to cut my pickup cavities. Semper Fi.
