Ending the Knave-King Sisyphus' Torment ABOUT THE GAME: Hades is a rogue-like dungeon crawler game from Supergiant Games, You play as Zagreus, immortal son of Hades, as he attempts to escape from the Underworld to reach Mount Olympus.
I just realized that Sisyphus literally changed from the person he was when alive which irc would kill his guests and take their stuff and now he's being an excellent host now offering zag health food and coins
Here's an interesting bit of info for anyone interested: Sisyphus punishment of pushing a boulder up a hill, only for it to slide back down again is meant to be symbolic, as it is a pointless task always doomed to failure... just like trying to cheat death.
but he finds joy in doing this task, as this task is only meant for him, and nothing else but his duty. pushing the rock might be pointless, but it is his fate of life, and therefore is fulfilling him more than anything could, because he will always have a purpose.
@@cestalia well Persephone is both his mom and his cousin :)... but that’s the least effed up connection though... Better hide your kids, hide your wife’s, hide your cattle, cause Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo and Dionysus were raping everybody out there... poor Medusa...
@GameDude2 Well saying that Zag is the bastard son of Zeus is a definite reference to Dionysus, specifically Orphic Dionysus, who was given the epithet 'Zagreus' as a reference to being reborn
Honestly I'm surprised than didn't try really hard to make sisyphus stay chained up. Sisyphus locked thanatos in a chest in the mythos and tricked hades (persephone in the mythos) so im surprised they freed him, even tho he has changed now.
Its like Hades said about Orpheus's sentence, he doesnt give one fig about them after however many years or even centuries they toiled, he knows full well theyve repented at that point, but hes got more important things to worry about (in his mind) than reviewing old cases when so many new dead come every day
9:49 Nyx: *monotone* "The Records you seek may be found in section sigma-phi-alpha, lower gamma folder" Hades three Dimensions away in absolute deadpan: "....What?" The best part about this is, how Zag first things first: goes to his second Mom, asks with a sh*t eating grin what he wants, she gives him what her little sunny boi wants and Hades is having an entire midlife crisis in the background. All in the span of a few second... PERFECTION.
Hi Marcuz-X! We're working on a video essay on Hades - comparing the game to the myth of Sisyphus himself, and are in the process of collecting gameplay footage. Would it be possible to use some of the footage from your videos in ours? We'll credit you in the description and link out to your channel as well. Let us know!
I can't believe it I spoke to sysiphus like 100 times waiting to deepen my relatioship with him so I can get the only 2 trophies left for this game, I never thought I had to talk to a f***ing rock🤦♂️ hell yeah I'm mad
I almost request for this 😂. Now I have to get that four diamond to free Sisyphus. It took so long because all of bosses bounty only give darkness during my run (not titan blood or diamond except Hades and Elysium sometimes). Oh yes, when you give Bouldy nectar, suddenly you get extra little boons. "You believe in Bouldy, Bouldy believe in you." And excuse me, how you get 'infinity' on your HP bar?
I think you have to escape one time and activate the Pact of Punishment so you'd be able to get those bounties again ,💎 And the infinity sign on my Health Bar indicates that I equipped Stubborn Defiance on the Mirror of Night.
Despite him sounding like such a chill calm guy in this game adaption. He was actually a total psycho in real sources. For starters he constantly would seduce his niece girlfriend wife thing. And manipulate her. He would also throw citizens of his city off cliffs to show a sign of power. Like literally he would literally through crowds of people one by one off a tower to show he means business. He’s definitely one of the worst rulers in history.
It actually depends oh the version of the myth you find. The most popular one is the version where he's basically a complete lunatic, but there is another where he was actually a pretty good king. In that one, the reason Thanatos is sent to kill him is because Zeus was (as always) looking to get some ancient greek cheeks, and his choice this time was the daughter of a river god. Said god asked Sisyphus where Zeus had taken his daughter, and he agreed to tell him in exchange for a freshwater spring in his city. Of course, Zeus was pissed that Sisyphus had told the river god this, and sent Thanatos after him
Man's endless pursuit with meaning can be likened to Sisyphus endlessly pushing the boulder up a hill. Both deeds are ultimately meaningless but if by fooling oneself into thinking there's meaning, should we prevent them from doing so? While one might lament at the meaningless in Sisyphus's cyclical actions, imagine for a second that Sisyphus is freed by Hades of the endless chore and instead told to be 'free'. What then would Sisyphus do that would produce more 'meaning' in an eternity in hell? What would Sisyphus- the man who only knows of boulder pushing do now that he is free to do anything? In this sense, the tale of Sisyphus is the tale of Zagreus is the tale of every single person living on this planet. Just as Sisyphus rolls a boulder with no end in sight, serving no true purpose, the player endlessly grinds through Hades to reach the end only to repeat the cycle without a true purpose in sight. Whether the boulder falls halfway or at the end, it makes no difference. TL;DR Meaning is over-rated Altho. Now that I think about it, if Hell truly existed, would the best punishment not simply be to do nothing?
Considering the human condition is vehemently opposed to boredom and will violently reject nothingness, you are correct, a punishment of nothing would be the worst punishment.
But there are plenty of goals and purposes to achieve throughout Hades. When you’ve completed 10 runs, you can bring Persephone back and see the credits. Do a few more runs and you reunite the family and get the true ending. And even after that, many players play on in the hopes of seeing and completing everything the game has to offer, from filling out the Codex, to maximizing your bond with every character, to fulfilling all the Minor Prophesies and Pact of Punishment challenges. Sure, once you’ve done literally everything you can possibly do in the game, then any further gameplay becomes truly pointless. But that’s how it is with every game. Hades isn’t just meaningless repetition at all.
@@ambrose7196 I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Done with what? With the story? With completion? I specified both in my first comment. Do you mean to ask how you are rewarded in the real world? Because you’d be right that you don’t gain any material reward in the real world for completing a game. But for many people, it’s fun, and satisfying, and sometimes personal fun and satisfaction is the only reward you need.
I gave Sisyphus all the nectar and got that dialogue from hades at the beginning of the video and still haven’t gotten the quest, is there something I’m missing? Just asking because he doesn’t have any more dialogue
You can free him? What... He was rolling that boulder for all eternity for a reason you know... He violated the laws of hospitality many times, killing his guests; kidnapped Thanatos, and tricked Persephone into letting him come back to life. He deserves that boulder
But in this games context Sisyphus has changed. He has been doing this for so long he has reevaluated his life over and over and has had a change of character. Heck even when you do free him he still wishes to push the boulder for he sees it to be his place in his new existence and because he found companionship in bouldy.
