Other Facts: There were multiple attempts made by the revolutionaries to make a concrete alliance between them and the Japanese Empire. This didn't materialize though. But the Japanese provided weapons to the revolutionaries. The King of Belgium wanted to buy the Philippines from Spain. They even made an agreement to retain Catholicism as the official religion in the Philippines. But they didn't succeed fortunately. In one of thwir colonial territories, they literally massacred the indigenous population. When Germany heard about how USA bought the Philippines from Spain, they became extremely interested in aiding the revolutionaries. This burning interest was even fueled by the Filipino people since they didn't want to be colonized again. So some German warships intercepted the American fleet on their way to Manila Bay indirectly. The American commander there was so annoyed that he stated (not exact words): "Let's go to war. There's no need for Washington and Berlin to know. Let's see who'll appear triumphant." He said something like that, and mind you, Germany has an equal chance of succeeding in taking the Philippines from the Americans since majority of the Filipinos by that time despised the Americans and were extremely supportive of the Germans, even the Filipino politicians.
