There are many names and flavors of this most commonly made breakfast in the Balkans. As a child, I called it Pohani kruh, and I liked it best with sugar. Today, my children call it Prženice, one son likes it only with sour cream and the other sweet. Someone likes more resh, someone softer and rawer, someone stuffed, someone without anything, a hundred people - a hundred ways, but they always smell the same! And that's the familiar smell of the morning :)
RECIPE
- eggs
-milk
- old bread
- oil
- a little butter (if desired)
- if desired, a little salt, sugar
-for fillings: cheese, ham
- for sweets: cream, sugar...
Depending on the quantity we make, we put the ingredients. Approximately 1 egg and 30-50ml of milk are needed for 2 fried pancakes.
Beat the eggs and milk with a fork, optionally add a pinch of salt and sugar, soak the bread well on both sides and place it in heated oil to fry on both sides for a few minutes on medium heat. A cube of butter can be added to the oil. Removed and put on a napkin to absorb excess fat. Serve as desired, with sour cream, cured meat or cream, sugar.
*If we make salty; put cheese on a slice of bread, ham and cheese again, fold it over with another slice and dip everything together in eggs and milk on both sides and fry like regular fries.
*The same procedure applies if we put some sweet cream in the middle, only after removing it, they are rolled in sugar.
There are many more ways to eat them, feel free to write your favorite variant, that way we will all get some new ideas!
And of course, when it's the best, it's Mmm BRE!
