It is Independence Day in America and I thought I’d take on one of the quintessential American foods, the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Except, this one is from 1917’s Salads and Sandwiches. And let just say it is a bit unconventional. Fortunately, that doesn’t mean it tastes bad. Happy 4th of July everyone! (with apologies to my UK friends although…King George III did kinda have it coming. Just sayin’)

These sandwiches have really expanded my notion of sandwiches. I might try this with tofu in place of the chicken. That curry butter sounds nice.

Happy 4th! Nothing says 'Murica! like some curry chicken! Haha! I can't say anything though, I'm enjoying the very German delicacy known as Bratwurst today alongside some Pale Ale of the Indian Variety and some fireworks via China! Stay cool and thanks for making such an effort for posting daily videos, they're a wonderful break from the daily grind!!

I had a similar thought, why egg the chicken. I was to do this, I would use ground chicken, form patties, and dredge them, using panko. I think that's more work, but might be worth it

There are some Italian or maybe Italian-American dishes where a cutlet is dipped in egg and then sauteed with no other coating, for example chicken Francese. Why or how that came to be, no idea. It's different but still good in my opinion.

That would be a chicken burger sandwich, not a chicken sandwich. Yes , even if you put your ground chicken patty on regular bread, because the ground stuff patty is what makes a burger (not the bun, as some people around the world have long misunderstood.

I want to improve that batter (egg, beer, chick pea flour}, mince thighs with a bit of white meat and corn starch, then make a patty. Batter and fry that til crispy, proceed with the rest as written.

I'll never understand the people who get upset over what other people are putting in their mouths. I wouldn't like cilantro but Barry does so he should absolutely put it on his sandwich. I would go with water cress or arugula instead but I see no need to criticize anything I'm not eating.

Perhaps they hadn't come that point where "fried" and "deep fried" chicken hadn't coalesced an understand that "fried chicken" chicken ONLY mean deep fried (as in battered and dunked). This is that "normal" fry of just having the chicken in a frying heat with a frying fat. It makes sense... a deep fried chicken sandwich is unheard of! Imagine a chain like Popeyes or KFC coming out with a deep fried chicken sandwich! I mean, who'd buy that?
