whether it's a train wreck or not the premise of a buddy cop pokemon detective movie with Ryan Renolds as a pikachu intrigues me enough to want to see it, kinda get some "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" vibes from it.
it really seems like everyone is forgetting this is an adaptation of a game and not some random original product these companies came together to make, it being an adaptation makes the choice mildly more sensible than it otherwise would be
Well aware what this is based on. But if it is successful I bet we get more live action Pokemon movies. Not just Detective Pikachu. A new PMCU. Pokemon Cinematic Universe.
Less than 30 seconds in Woolie gives me the content I want. The last few minutes of this full podcast episode are why I subscribe to these guys; a.k.a the story about how they ended up greeting the guys from AchievementHunters then immediately messing around with cattle prods shocking each other: that's why I subscribe and support this channel hahaha
I'm actually down for Dectetive Pikachu. I was very skeptical when they announced they were doing a live action movie of it, but...the trailer convinced me otherwise. Plus my boy, Greninja in it, so im already sold.
It looks like those "creepy" photorealistic fan art except not creepy because the Pokemon themselves have little touchups such as scales and fur to make them "realistic" without feeling uncanny. They genuinely look like creatures the humans have to share a world with.
I remember watching Gate and quitting when a 30-year-old man lovingly embraced a 12-year-old princess as his bride. That show had two harems: the harem that made sense and the canon harem with the teenage girls.
@@Personified134 I was all about the dumb Apocalypse Now-style Helicopter Captain. There were some really interesting scenes in the show up to that point, mostly to do with the medic character. She's around when the main character hires all the female enemies and later she runs a clinic that hands out condoms to the prostitutes in the other world. It really got me thinking about that kind of "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" interaction but from this era. And then the show leaned extra hard on the three girl characters as romantic attachments to the 33-year-old hero (and he is NOT the character I mentioned before). It got really off-putting.
Gate and a lot of isekai or similar anime, manga and light novel stuff are all pretty much just shitty self insert power fantasy bullshit for waifu obsessed otaku. I really like Overlord, but even that show has a bit of that in it. Konosuba makes fun of that shit, which is why I love it.
The live action Pokemon movie is everything I ever want for the past 25+ years of the series. Plus there’s like 19-20 animated movies so it’s about time we got one big dumb fun live action one.
Matt sounded half-sarcastic saying that, honestly. He also seemed pretty okay with Incineroar in Smash. Woolie defused the potential complaints very admirably, though, and Pat probably would have kept it going if they hadn't left his high-chair in the car and he could reach the mic.
I'm oddly excited for the Detective Pikachu movie. It is such a weird idea, it feels like something out of an alternate universe. And I feel like the guys behind this film are actually familiar with the franchise to some degree, The Mr. Mine scene alone is evident to that.
He does seem to adamantly dislike anything that doesn't match his preferred aesthetic or general concept of what he considers "cool" His whole rant against feathered dinosaurs really reflects that mind set, IMO. "Masters of the Universe." Go watch it! A young Courtney Cox (Monica from Friends) and Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris from Star Trek: Voyager) are a modern day couple that meet a Star Wars inspired He-Man crew. Movie is a trip and a half.
Considering that game was slighted to come out sometime right after X and Y, but only just came out after the Ultras to almost no fanfare or any real attention - not even Pokemon Let's Go ReRemake Kanto has gotten mixed reactions, at least - I'm not surprised if they didn't know it was a thing. Seems only Pokemon nerds even knew it exists.
They talked about the game when it came out and they don't live under a rock, so they know it's based on a game. Also they mentioned that it's based on "a side story" , so yeah
Parker Thomas Like I think part of why some people are saying it looks terrible, is because Pikachu talks. But my counter argument is that in both the games and the anime, Pokémon talking has always been a thing. Meowth, Gastly, most legendaries, etc. And it’s worked fine.
I think the real issue is that, not only is it a video game live-action movie, but it looks/feels like a movie that's going to have the same awful writing like Alvin and the Chipmunks, Smurfs, Woody Woodpecker, and movies like that.
I kinda liked the Mario movie, then again I was like 8 years old when I saw it. The idea of it wasn't too bad but, it was a let down in how they didn't stick to the whole mushroom kingdom aspect... So if you have to choose the Mario movie or the dbz one, which would it be?
I actually hate "space-ants are immune to bullets, but larping works". If you want to see guns against dragons, film guns against dragons. If you want to see swords against dragons, film swords against dragons. If you want just a little bit of guns, you can say "there is only a little bit of guns, so bring a stick, too". You could make up anything to get the amount of guns you like. Maybe guns are heavy? Maybe you'd have a lot of explaining to do if space-cops saw you with guns?

I'm excited for the Pokemon movie. It could still be a dumpster fire but I probably will still enjoy it. Pokemon as a concept have never really been about the story anyways. Also, Milla HAVE to be a big draw in Japan without people realizing it. While yes the actual reason could be the obvious one, there have to be a method to the madness.

I'm not looking forward to either of these movies. The lead for Detective Pikachu doesn't look the part and the pokemon look unsettling and the premise of the Monster Hunter movie sounds like a very bad idea. And Speaking of Gate, there was a military vs. dragons moment where a JSDF squad had to fight off a Flame Dragon. The Flame Dragon was special, though, I don't expect Rathian's scales to be unaffected by a .50 caliber machine gun, or fought with swords and arrows.
Like LOOK. RIGHT BEFORE I saw this I saw that new Alita trailer which in COMBINATION with Detective Pikachu told me that CGI Directors lack BASIC COMMON SENSE when making movies. Holy SHIT those eyes look stupid, even IN UNIVERSE, because no other robots have them! And Detective Pikachu?! Whoever thought to make rubbery Charizard look scaley like that is a jackass :P

There's no defense for not capitalising properly on a popular IP. Yeah shitty Capcom movies make money but because of their shittiness they miss out on a mountain of sales in the short term and they also poison the well setting a precedent of poor quality and miss out on huge sales in the long run. Cool, you made some money, but you could've made incredible money instead of paltry sum. Opportunity cost, simple shit.
