a vintage Participaction commercial leads into the opening minutes of this 1984 episode of "The Friendly Giant", CBC's classic children series starring Bob Homme and Rod Coneybeare
Wow! A double bill - Bruno Gerussi, Bob Homme, Rusty and Jerome. Chokes me up to think of those wonderful days when the world was gentler, kinder, and less complicated. My brother used to watch the black and white version in 1969. Now, this theme song will play in my head for days and weeks. Thanks. R.I.P., Bob and Bruno. Long live Rusty and Jerome.
Hahahaha. Although I have not seen, heard nor even thought about that tortoise and hare *_Participaction_* advertisement in at least 35 years, I immediately recalled the entire narrative script of the thing the moment I watched just the first second or two of it just there. Memory is a wild, wild trip; thanks so much for the flashback!
My brother in law who was a tall man, worked at CBC for a time. One day he was shocked to see Bob Homme at the vending machine...his hero, Friendly Giant, was a short guy. Thanks for the lovely uploads!!
Wow. Wonderful memories of a childhood in the 80's. My brother and I wouldn't miss the Friendly Giant. I miss it all, including Rusty, Jerome and the kittens.
A related experience here, I learned this on the recorder when I was in elementary school, back in the very early 80s (I began junior high in 84-85). In fact, I'd bet you nickels to navy beans that this theme was rather common fare amongst the budding young, prepubescent musicians of most Canadian elementary school music classes of the 1970s through to the 1980s.
That Tortoise & Hare bit! It's still the only place I can see a bit from it! To anyone reading this: I offer a $50 reward by Paypal to anyone able to show me the complete Participaction ad seen at the beginning of this clip!
It use to be rather quaint how easy it was to watch Fraggle Rock when you didn't have to ask your folks to get HBO for you to watch it in those days (my city didn't get HBO for many years so the CBC station in Windsor was the best way to watch it for free).
