i feel like my mom mustve shown me a couple episodes as a kid since she liked it so much, i dont remember it or if she even did. but she put a couple on near christmas eve, and even as a 17 year old i love it. i literally picked up a recorder from the music store yesterday because of this show :)
I remember watching this show when I was little. The theme song is instantly recognizable. I had the honour of visiting Bob Homme's final resting place in Aug 2019. Paid my respects and left a few flowers.
Hitting the way back machine big time here!!. As a 5 year old i adored this show. Its as basic as it gets but kids can tell that the chemistry between the characters is very real. Jerome was my favorite. He just had a cheeky mischievous personality. And he always comes in like he has been out to the pub. What a simpler time.
This show was brilliant. It's real purpose was to get kids ready for nap time. Children were given stories, characters and music consisting of harp, recorder and flute. It ended with a welcoming fireplace scene, an illusion of someone watching over you and a slight feeling of sadness when the drawbridge closes. I always wondered why there was a drawbridge and no apparent moat, I usually fell asleep thinking about it.
Gone to the great draw bridge in the sky. 09/09/2019 The voice of 'Friendly Giant’s' Jerome and Rusty, Rod Coneybeare, former Friendly Giant puppeteer, dead at 89.
we all had to wait for the cow to jump over the moon. When I was around 3 and my brother 4 , we would both fall asleep to this tune. Mum would have to wake us up after every show.
I remember when I was a kid in the '70s, if the friendly giant can move a chair around with a thumb and index finger think how big that friggn rooster is LOL
I liked it better when Jerome played the harmonica, especially at the end, when he tried to say goodbye to Friendly and play the theme at the same time.
Friendly Giant with Rusty and Jerome (and the Jazz Cats) was a safe and fun to be when I was a little kid. A few minutes every day. #RIP Rod and Bob. You may never know the positive influence you had on thousands of Canadian children each day.... #sad
my dad used to say to me when i was a kid getting ready for bed look way way up and ill call rusty as a way to get my shirt off so i could get my pyjama top on, the good old days :)
This was called The Friendly Giant in which a Giant lives in a Castle with Rusty The Rooster & Jerome The Giraffe and when you come to "Visit" him, you either have the option of sitting in a Rocking Chair or a Bench. It was a very popular show for about Twenty Years on Canadian TV. Also, Fred Rogers also got his start on Canadian TV with Mr. Rogers Neighbohood. If you check the beginning he always welcomes you and asks you to look way up.
Just a little sad they don't make kids shows like this today. Would watch all the time during the summer, sick & PA days. Watched it in my teen years to cause it was so wonderful & gentle.
