I always hated how badly the Friends treated her... yes she was annoying, but she was sweet, caring and honestly a good person. I hated seeing her excited around them and them laughing at her.

Idk if they are soulmates, but DEFINITELY Janice deserved a better treatment.

I never understood why everyone hates Janice, I think she is funny and unique, and if you really think about it, she is not a bad person at all.

I've been seeing memes on Instagram that say "Your Chandler is somewhere out there. He's just with his Janice right now." This video made me realize if that's true some Janice out there is gonna be used and seriously hurt for some guy to grow up for the right woman. And that's really sad!

The reason why Chandler was attracted to Janice is because she provided the female affection that he lacked from his *mother* *Toxic* ? Yes. Eventually he actually fell in love with the mother of the group: *Monica* Monica also had a desire to clean/organize everything that’s a mess. Arguably, Chandler was the biggest mess of the group and there’s that!

I hate that they made her a punchline, just because of her laugh/mannerisms. She was sweet and good to Chandler and she deserved better.

Ppl tend to overlook how annoying, loud and obnoxious Monica is. Chandler has a thing for loud girls. Other than Janice’s laugh, I liked her the best.

In Season 3, they have such a loving and steady relationship. Honestly Chandler seemed so happy with her and I hate he went back to hating her immensely in Season 4.

A “soulmate” doesn’t necessarily have to be a romantic partner. A soulmate is just a person that ideally mirrors your values and ideas. The best example of this is Will and Grace. They are perfect together and no romantic love can equal that friendship. Or similarly JD and Turk from Scrubs. I think we can all agree that Carla will never appreciate Turk the way JD does. But the main reason Janice is not Chandler’s soulmate is simple: Chandler treats her horribly. Whether the soulmate is romantic or platonic, there needs to be mutual love and respect. Janice deserves better. And Chandler already has a soulmate, it’s Joey.

I think the Ross/Rachel comparison just goes to show that Ross and Rachel shouldn’t have ended up together. They brought out the worst in each other and it was Ross idealizing her and not respecting her as a waitress and designer. Joey and the paleontologist lady should have been their endgames because they were their best selves and they were supportive and happy.

Unpopular opinion: Janice's laugh is adorable and funny

Chandler and Monica’s relationship is one on Friends that I’m 100 % sure of. They’re basically the same person. Both have deep insecurities that are rooted in their childhood, in their family dynamics. Both have developed coping mechanisms that are meant to repel people away, and both are very sensitive behind that facade. I’ve often seen Richard Burke offered to be Monica’s actual soulmate. He is a pretty good match for Monica, but the type of love he represents is the love Monica wishes she could’ve had as a little girl. Richard is a very father-like figure. He’s very secure in himself, understanding, honest and open about his feelings. If Monica and Richard ended together, I don’t think Monica could’ve grown as much as she did. She needed to learn that the person she can trust first and foremost is herself. Maybe after Richard she was more open to having a relationship with someone who is her ”equal”, and let go of the idea that she needs to simulate family love in her adult romantic relationships. Richard had more power in the relationship, even if he didn’t abuse it. But think about this: When Richard would have grown older, Monica would have been the one to take care of him. She definitely would’ve liked that, being the carer she is, but that would’ve also, in a sense, ”pacified” her. For Chandler the other suggested soulmates are Kathy and Janice. Kathy is Chandler’s Richard, she’s his parents' image and therefore his attempt to conquer his issues. She’s an actress, and her career choice mirrors the natures of Chandler’s attention seeking parents. Just like Monica, Chandler has played the second fiddle his whole life. Chandler lived to please both his parents, because both his parents seem to have narcissistic qualities to them. They belittled him and demanded all his attention. It was their world, not his. Chandler probably even landed the career he so dislikes because a successful son reflects well on his parents (this characteristic is especially common in boys with narcissistic mothers). Kathy is that flamboyant type of a girl, but unlike his parents, she’s empathetic, but unfortunately that’s not enough. She can’t understand why Chandler is so insecure about their relationship and eventually ends up cheating on him (partly) because of that. Chandler tried to grow, he returned to apologize, only to find out that Kathy wasn’t interested enough in him, just like his parents. Kathy couldn’t understand Chandler because she has never experienced the things he has (and Chandler clearly has problems opening up), empathy gets you only so far (and how empathetic was she really in the end?). But who has experienced the things he has? Monica. Janice is a great match for Chandler in many ways. She’s very upfront about her feelings, and one of the biggest issues in Chandler’s love life is that he can’t stand uncertainty. This is also Monica’s issue, which is why Richard seemed like a great match to her. But Janice is like a drug to Chandler. Janice is safe, Janice is maybe even too empathetic, as she always forgives Chandler for doing the strangest things. The issue is though, she doesn’t understand why Chandler does the things he does. Because of this Chandler has more power in the relationship. Monica and Chandler eventually figure out how similar they are. They’re equal, so they can fight and make up and remain as equals after. Janice filled the need for love in Chandler, though Chandler didn’t really love Janice, at least not at first, just the things that came with her. Also Chandler’s shallowness and inability to stand other people’s mistakes and shortcomings didn’t allow them to get to the deeper level soon enough. Once they started online dating it was clear they had an understanding, but that was too late, as Janice chose her family in the end. But Chandler learned his lesson, he saw what can be inside a person, even if they have annoying qualities (like Monica). Though I think Chandler has liked Monica ever since the thanksgiving he lost his toe. Though that experience of Chandler's shallowness made Monica resent Chandler for a long time. Maybe Janice and Chandler's relationship showed Monica what Chandler is really capable of.

I always thought Janice was treated really badly throughout the whole series, and, to be honest, she never did anything that really warranted how much everyone else treated her. Yes, she’s annoying and slightly obnoxious, but she deserved way better than Chandler.

That’s an interesting question because Monica said that she doesn’t believe in soulmates. Then again, what is a soulmate? Is it always romantic? Can you have a platonic soulmate? Someone that you are always drawn to and love so much, but in a platonic way? Wouldn’t that make everyone in the Friends group “soulmates”?

Ross and Rachel's relationship was toxic and they never should have ended up together.

I also think that their relationship shows how much influence your friends have on your romantic relationships. His friends found Janice to be annoying and even make fun of her right in front of him this probably causes Chandler to have second thoughts about their relationship

Honestly after a while I didn't care about Ross and Rachael's relationship it just got annoying to me

youre right on most things but i dont think janice "broke chandler in" for monica. monica did that all by herself. chandler was still very immature and afraid of commitment when monica started dating him. at the end of her relationship janice hadn't fixed him or even begun to. it was all monica. theres that episode with the male nurse that monica was going to date because chandler said that they were "just fooling around". she pushed chandler into realizing he wants something real with her. it was after that episode that chandler stopped acting like a commitment phobic man child. after that he started making big steps with her like asking her if he could move in. everytime chandler pushes her away she calls his bluff and says "well then maybe i should go be with that guy" and he caves realizing he cant lose her because of his commitment issues. it happened a second time with richard. granted chandler was just trying to make her believe he didnt want to be married so that the proposal could be a surprise, but having richard beg monica to take him back, seeing that monica has other viable serious options, always puts things into perspective for chandler and reassures him that monica is who he wants to be with.

The "you complete me" thing is bad news. Dependent relationship. Two complete people who add to each other's lives, that's the good one

Well the writers initially intended for them to end up together but decided to have Chandler end up with Monica after seeing Monica & Chandler’s chemistry when Monica was Chandler’s personal trainer

There's an irony on how I see the concept of soulmates. When I spent my youth being single and having one-sided feelings towards various guys, I believed in soulmates-that somewhere out there I'll find Mr. Right. However, after I met my current boyfriend-who I've dated for over 8 years-I actually don't believe in soulmates anymore. It takes a lot of active choosing and compromising to nurture a relationship. Of course, we may have been fated to meet-that I believe in-but to say that we're soulmates is a little farfetched, given the fact that we have to actively make a decision to still love one another.

Unpopular opinion, she's my 2nd favorite character after Phoebe

two points: 1. I actually always loved Janice despite also finding her voice and laugh annoying so I'm glad you guys gave her a good video. 2. I love Chandler and Monica's relationship more than anyone else so I was ready to fight but I actually find myself agreeing with this video. well done!

I loved Janice. She is beautiful, funny, always kind and patient, and I love her laugh.

Chandler always considered Janice as a back up plan. Even when he fell in love with her, it's the season he's scared he's going to end up alone. Chandler and Monica chose to be together, and they fit on every level. That's a million times more sustainable and more romantic. Soulmates are a bullshit concept. Life is not signs, it's choices.

No. There isn't a healthier and more friendship-based relationship than Chandler and Monica's. They are excellent role models for anyone who wants to know what a good relationship is like.

Honestly, I liked Janice. I saw more of her own personality when she started dating chandler, I was sad when she cheated and they had to break up.

Like Monica said, soulmates do not exist, you meet someone, fall in love and build work on a relationship, sometimes really hard... Monica and Chandler once they started dating, started to grow up, even if for comedic purposes the writers would have them both revert to some old weird habits, you can see the couple maturing which allowed the writers to make them go through adults issue conflicting professional priorities, she has to stay in NYC, he has to commute between and NYC and Tulsa, he quits his job to find a new career while she becomes the income earner of the couple for a period, and then there is the matter of pregnancy and adoption which lead them to decide that life in the suburbs is what they want for their children... I don't know who is a soulmate to whom, but Chandler and Monica is the couple that latest the longest on the show without a break period, despite going through some challenges that could break a couple and went on to build a great life for themselves...

The idea of soulmates is terrible. Because it means that you don’t have the heart and the mind control of your love-life. Therefore, your choices if motivated by the idea of soulmates and fate, are not pure to what you want your own will. However if it what makes you happy and you have peace with the plan... by all means sure. It’s just that both parties have to have to same belief.

I love Friends but have never thought about Janice and Chandler's relationship from this perspective. What a great video.

I can't watch Chandler's proposal to Monica and not think that they're right for each other. So glad this video exists because Janice is such a fun person, she was always in a good mood, stood up for herself and was not afraid to speak her mind, she was self confident. She's my favorite secondary caracter and deserved so much better! I mean, I'm all for Mondler, love the couple so much, but Janice did deserve better

Yay...you're doing _Friends_ side characters. Awesome! Janice IS a bad habit for Chandler. He takes her for granted, and dismisses her too easily when she starts to annoy him. That, to me, does not make for a soul mate. So I disagree when you say that Janice was the one that "made Chandler grow up". I think Monica was that person for Chandler...but, also, Chandler was that person for Monica. Chandler & Monica understood each other better than any of the other friends did - way back from the beginning. They accepted each others quirks, and became better friends to each other because of it. They talked, laughed & comforted each other during the whole course of the series. They were meant for each other, they just didn't know they were meant for each other. Anyway, I appreciate your analysis, always. Great insight to Janice, whom I didn't realized I missed, until the last season. 😊❤️

I think Richard and Monica's romance is also an example of 'soulmate' love. They have the coincidental meetings and the obsessive on again off again relationship. They were also affected by timing - the age gap meant Richard was too old to want more children. Of course, barely anyone wants them together and Monica ends up choosing Chandler instead, supporting the idea that the idea that being with someone you worked on a relationship with is better than a predestined love.
