I head up near Mt. Laussedat for an overnight ski tour... and then I try to fix a squeaky MaxxFan. Enjoy the video, thanks for watching! Merchandise: foresty-forest... Summit Map: drive.google.c... / strava / forestyforest
That felt extraordinary. At one point, with the drone footage and you flying downhill on skis I thought "what an amazing time to be alive - that's just one guy, having an adventure, and sharing it with armchair travelers. It wouldn't have been possible 50 years ago." Thank you.
I was just thinking how funny it is that Rocko can race ahead of @ForestyForest for a day's worth of skiing only to start playing with rocks almost as big as she is as soon as they establish camp. What a cool dog and the perfect companion for Simon.
@tmwk15 He explained that in the video back in 2022 when he first got her. "Rocko" was a wallaby animated character in a Nickelodeon series, and he said that he always liked that character. I believe that the video where Foresty first got Rocko is called "A Girl Named Rocko". She was so unbelievably adorable at only 11 weeks old. I definitely recommend that video if you have not seen it.
I'm really liking the new adventure /hobby...The past 2 videos watching you ski and listening to your laughter is so refreshing ....There is NO other RU-vid channel to compare. Keep them coming.
It really does.. that's my wish for all you able bodied people, don't forget play, and enjoy everyday, it's okay to have tough times, we all do, but aim for for pure freedom of spirit ❤
I've been tour skiing for over 20 years and the frozen boots can be remedied in 2 simple ways. 1) Wear giant ziplock bags over your socks then put your foot in the boot, this will prevent moisture from soaking in and freezing overnight. This is fantastic and stupid cheap for multi-day trips. 2) Boil water and put it in a water bottle that can fit in the boot to soften/warm it if you don't want to wear plastic bags on your feet. and for the secret #3) buy battery powered boot warmers, pretty good takes a while for them to work as I put them in my wife's boots when we go out and turn them on an hour before we're ready to go. But I LOVE this ski touring aspect of your channel now, so happy you made this jump
If I could add another it would be to bring the boot liners into the foot box of your sleeping bag. Then adding a hot water bottle to the foot box as well makes for toasty toes in the morning.
Handwarmers in your boots, 1 hr before departure. Then put them in your gloves 'til your fingers warm up, and keep them handy for when you are messing around with cameras and drone.
I ski toured in the Sierra Nevada mountains for a number of years. Used plastic bags over socks and good gaiters back then. But now, battery powered boot warmers sound wonderful after waking up in a cold tent in the snow.
People say why he doesn't have a million plus views. I believe forestry forest videos are a gem. It's so valuable and only few of us are fortunate enough to get a glimpse of it. Not everything is meant for views. Some are better left untouched. Keep going bro! 👍😊
The footage of you skiing downhill was awesome. You're the best when it comes to van life. So glad you've added skiing to your videos. What a ride that was. Rocko is so adorable and loves her rocks lol. Stay safe Foresty... all of us need you and Rocko in our lives.
When my dad was young he did few overnight ski hikes. Over half a century ago, they had leather ski boots and thick woolen socks. The wool would dry on the feet overnight, treated leather boots kept shape naturally… He started taking me to ski with him, I was not 5 yet, right in from of him, holding on to his legs, my skis between his, screaming my lungs out. Rocko reminded me of that time, I was just as happy ❤
Yeah, the old leather boots were amazing. Unfortunately they led to very complex fractures of the ankle when things went wrong. Despite the hassle I prefer more modern gear.
Foresty, watching your videos from the past few years has inspired me to not necessarily do what you do, but retire early. I'm on track to retire in less than 4 years, before 50, and live my life in pursuit of peace and happiness.
Amazing. Mountain climber, mountain biker, pack rafter, back country skier, gourmet minimalist chef - and electric motor tech. Coming back down that snow covered old road looked like it was a total blast. Thanks for the video.
Rocco is one lucky little dog to have been chosen by you. She certainly has an adventurous life and is a fantastic addition to your already interesting video's.
Foresty, I just wanted to tell you how much I love the thumbnail for this episode! The majestic mountain in the background, and the van in foreground, and then the adorable close up of Rocko with her goggles and her cute little tongue sticking out - it perfectly summarizes your outdoor adventure brand/niche and your free-spirited lifestyle. You have some great thumbnails on your channel, but the minute that I saw this one, it became one of my favorites, and an instant classic!!
You've got to be kidding me... drone footage while skiing downhill??!? Now we've seen it all from Forest with amazing night sky captures, heartwarming dog interactions, and outstanding outdoor adventures. Despite all the other amazing vids, this is definitely one that stands out!!
What a fabulous time! Thanks for taking us along to such a special place. The drone footage was, as ever, awe-inspiring. Fun to see you and Rocko having such a great time. Always enjoy seeing you fix something.
Rocco is so silly! Ticks are no joke! Lyme is debilitating …long term! Please check yourself and Rocco! Wow that’s some nice powder! How fun! Rocco loves her rocks! Thanks for sharing!
Is there anything you don't do well. I know you said you skied as a kid but you look like you have done more than that. I love the full laughing it brings you. I did wonder when you left your boots out how that was going to go in the morning but now you know. As someone already mentioned about the ticks, please stay on top of that. Some of the symptoms are some that you have mentioned in the past so want you to get back on the correct meds if it starts back up. Stay safe and warm. Thank you for taking us along.
For your freezing cold boots I would recommend purchasing disposable biodegradable hot packs I usually get them from Costco. I'm a snowboarder and what I do sometimes after I'm done for the is I crack a couple of them open and throw them inside my gloves and Boots to help dry them out if I don't have Access to some kind of heat Source.
I never know which is more beautiful: the drone footage of the mountains or the now-perfected pizza meal. They both make me shake my head in wonder, Foresty.
This is what skiing's all about, no traffic, no crowds, no lift lines, just the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the solitude. And that's it, all you need is one long ginormous ski run, who needs a lift ticket. Yeah, I agree, I'm already starting to enjoy the longer days of daylight, been doing some extended biking, last winter's cabin fever was starting to wear on me. Hey, thanks for checking in and take care !!
As for the multi-day ski touring…..boots come inside the bag with you at night. Have a small snow brush handy to brush off every bit of snow off the gear you bring inside the tent and especially that which goes in the bag. I put my boots behind my knees. If using a double boot system obviously just the inner boots go into the bag. You should generally have 2 sets of socks. One set for skiing and one for sleeping. The ski socks will get wet in use but that's ok as long as you moving. They can go into the bag at night too to keep them from freezing and also to dry them a bit. Just make sure you keep your sleeping socks dry and don't get lazy and use them for skiing. It'll only feel nice for a few minutes and then you'll hav e 2 sets of wet socks. Make sure you air your bag out in the sun each day before starting, if only for 15-20 min. This will allow some of the water in the bag to evaporate and keep the bag reasonably dry and maintain the insulating qualities over many days. Sleeping long johns are also a plus. Turn your tent inside out each morning before packing it away to get rid of the accumulated ice from your breath at night. Modern fabrics and gear are a plus but good solid winter techniques are also vital. My background was US Special Forces and I've spent many a month in arctic in Northern Norway.
I live in the inner city and have never done outdoors stuff, let alone this kind of amazing activity. Thank you for sharing your awe inspiring lifestyle with us. It’s hard to believe these places exist in our world.
Greetings from Qld Australia 🇦🇺 I LOVE your "mid life crises notFerrari skiis" and these gorgeous cross country snow treks! As an Aussie I love watching Rocko! You are truly solid in safety and sense. Thankyou for your productions. Peace. Beauty. Goodness.
So glad you showed the fan repair because my Max Air fan has stopped working altogether. I think I will try taking it apart as you indicated to see if I can figure out the problem.
Roco is such a great fun companion so much personality. That was some ski and loved your laughter on the way down. So enjoyable to be so nice and warm here and yet enjoy the same views that you had to freeze to enjoy 🙂
VBL. Vapor Barrier Linerss between your foot and boot. I made my own out of coated rip stop nylon. It’s just an oversized sock. They keep the foot sweat from soaking into the boot liner. There is no cure for rigid plastic boot shells, except sleeping with them. Good video..THanks.
That drone footage of you skiing down those wide slopes was so cool. It's amazing to see this ability to ski emerge out of nowhere. I can just imagine 16 year old Foresty loving the heck out of this kind of ski run. Watching Rocko plunge her head into that frigid stream made my head ache in sympathy. What a little rock monster she is. You named her well! Say, I LOVED your narrated replacement of the fan bearing. The closeup shots let us watch and benefit from your tips and explanations. Please do more of this kind of casual instruction. You wouldn't believe how valuable it is. One question: how do you figure out the name/number of the part you need and where to buy them? If I can't walk into a parts store and rely on the expertise of the people behind the counter, I'm completely baffled. Great video, Foresty. I only wish I weren't sitting here slightly shivering in my own house while watching you in these snowy places. haha!
I have so much fun with you and Rocko. When you laugh, my heart laughs with you. Keep doing what it is that brings you joy, and share when you feel like it.
Thank you so much for sharing your bliss with the rest of the world, @ForestyForest. I'm sure no one enjoyed that more than you and Rocko, but we definitely had a great time. From Rocko's joy at playing with rocks to your laughter on the downhill run and your drone footage, this has got to be my favorite video from you yet.
Between your Moresty Forest channel and this one you allow me to watch adventures I can't do anymore due to a car accident 7 years ago. Thank you for all your videos! They bless my days!😊
Awesome video Sir Foresty !! The scenario, drone shots following you skiing, Rocko, being so cute, playing & hunting rocks, cooking, fixing stuff.... You da Man Simon, absolutely loved this episode, thank you so much, for the effort you put into your videos, it is definitely noticed. Hope no long term effects of the tick. Cheers Mate, and keep safe 😀
I lived in BC for 8 years and loved every minute of it. The hiking and breathing that air is beyond anything Ive ever experienced. Absolutely love your channel. Happy hiking!
Hey Foresty forest that was a fun video. I’m glad you played it safe on the mountains so much fun to see you ski you and Rocco. You guys always make my day. Be safe out there and stay warm and thanks for sharing.🇺🇸♥️🫶🙏⛷️🏔️👍🐾🚐🇨🇦
Who thought a rock could be so much fun! Ticks are not something to fool with, Lyme disease is around! Awesome footage once again, your videos are impressive! Rocco must have some incredible dreams!!
That was an excellent episode. Hopefully your Tick Bite is ok. Your videos are absolutely awesome. Rocko is a fantastic partner. Thanks from a couple of followers from Gabriola Island BC.
Hi Foresty! Love your videos and the new opening number has such character! I have said this before…I had two Jack Russells 16 years each and they were so adorable. Love, love, love the breed! Rocko is so loyal to you and seems to have so much fun doing what you love to do. Keep up the great work! 😉
You and Rocko living your best lives. Some excellent skiing there by the way. Scared the crap out of me! Loved Rockos goggles! Prayers no issues with the tick digging-Lyme. Be well! 💗✨🐾☀️
Love seeing you having so much fun! Great episode, Rocko sure is cute in her ski goggles, ears flapped back by the wind. Glad you're feeling better, Foresty!
I'm so happy to watch your videos friend. I'm disabled and basically house bound and I love touring vicariously through your videos. You and Rocky are a delight and I thank you
Been your fan for many many years now and watched every single one of your videos - all the way back to the bike. :) I'm glad you got to the hospital for treatment before getting seriously direly ill from that tick bite, and it's so much fun to hear you laugh while skiing. You're quite a guy, Foresty. Do hope you remember me and maybe give me a thumbs up sometime. Best always, Diana
We are very glad to know ~Simon that you’re aware of the dangers of avalanches in the high country and abide by the knowledge of them. Blessings dear one🌱
You think Foresty's videos can't get better and then they do. And how did he get so familiar with fan motor disassembly?? 🙂 Beautiful video...BC is just stunning. Thanks Foresty!
