I have the exact same model with a possible cost free option if your not keen or unable to take apart and can wait a day (ie. food not spoiling with a backup freezer or the food is already spoiled). In year one the coils froze over, the drain hole plugged with ice, freezer would not get cold, ice even dripped to the bottom and out the front door. A tech came and took the panel off (like in video), used a steamer to melt ice (not a heater that can warp or damage plastic he said). He then ran a small metal piece from the heating element down the drain hole to resolve (so ice won't build up in small hole again). At 18 month (now out of warranty), freezer stopped getting cold again. Electrolux said too bad out of warranty. Oh well, buy a new one. I ran across the same tech while looking for a new freezer (no more Frigidaire/Electrolux) and he said ITS LIKELY THE FAN FROZE OVER NOW (like in this great video). He said it happens regularly, they know and even have a fan replacement kit to resolve (which he advised is hit and miss on working), that I can have installed for $300. SOLUTION: Alternatively, he advised just leave it off for 36 hours to melt all the ice and turn it back on. I rolled out of the garage, left in the direct sun for 24 hours, plugged in, waited until the next day and the 2 plastic bottles of water I put in are completely frozen (top and bottom shelves). He also advised (not realistic for everyone with space/budget constraints) to have a 2nd freezer to save food. He does himself and said a backup freezer chest for a few hundred dollars can save a $1000 in spoiled food when the inevitable happens. I am not a tech and was very skeptical that letting it sit would work but so far so good. I have no idea for how long it will last (since it appears to be a design flaw), but it's very cold for a few days now. If this is the design problem, I will probably have to manual defrost this crappy auto defrost freezer every year. If this info helps anyone else before you throw it out...wonderful.
Thank you for your comment. But unfortunately it probably will freeze over again. My suggestion is to get the tech you mentioned to come out and replace the wire again that goes to the drain. That’s probably a small heater. Or you do it yourself just find one on Amazon. That’s gonna be a more permanent repair. Whenever I run into an out of Warrenty one from now on that’s what I’m doing to repair it.

Just had this happen to mine. Only 1 year and 4 months old. I called the company today to report the issue and they were not help. I just wanted to report the problem and maybe if enough people report this then maybe they will recall it. She didn’t understand what I was calling about and then we got disconnected after 50 minutes on the phone with them. Not happy. Just lost a lot of food because of this. I ordered the part and it will not be in for 2 weeks. I ordered 2 just in case. Thank you for your video.

I ended up taking the entire fan shroud off and used a dramel cutting wheel and opened the drain hole larger. I also removed a bit of the foam ,then cleaned up everything so water could not catch and freeze in the opening. You do not have to get crazy, I removed mabe 1/4 inch from eather side of the drain. It's been running two months now with no issues.
Thank you for this. I have had warranty repairs 4 times on this exact freezer, and one of them actually just cut a bigger drain channel with a utility knife and said it was good. Now its out of warranty and I have to do this replacement; no thanks at all to Electrolux. Thank you for this honest guidance.

Thanks for your video. I had the same problem with this freezer. I was actually seeking a video that allowed more direct access to the fan. After 6 months it stopped keeping the upper shelves frozen. Had a technician out and he thawed the ice around the fan. It just happened again, and rather than call service I removed the panel shown in the video and used a hair dryer to remove the ice and get the fan spinning again. I wish there was a more permanent fix. I hate to have to go through this every 6 months. My previous freezer finally died after 25 years and I never had a problem with it. They just don't build them like they used to.
You will need to remove the entire fan shroud and enlarge the small hole at the bottom of the shroud. I did it two months ago and no further issues. You have to trim back some of the foam as well. I removed 1/4 inch on eather side of the hole.
@@moodyblues1009 Do you mean the main panel with the thermostat or the inner fan shroud. There is only one screw holding in the entire fan assembly. They use clips to fasten the front of the plastic assembly. Use caution undoing them so they do not break. I warmed mine up a bit before opening, a hair drier might help them too. There is a video out there where someone was installing a kit but honestly, it's a joke. They use a piece of aluminum tape around the drain location on the back wall of the freezer and cover the holes where the fan mounts to the shell. They also add a strip of foam tape on eather side of the housing. Then they install what appears to be a different drain hose on the back of the freezer behind the panel where the compressor motor is. My thought would be to spray the back of the freezer in the area with the drain with silicone spray, but honestly my repair just enlarging the drain hole in the fan shroud was sufficient enough.
@@scottfirman I removed the 2 panels to expose the fan. There's a single screw at the bottom where the fan is located. I took out that screw, but I didn't want to force the fan cover.
@@moodyblues1009 The clips come off a little tough but you can enlarge the drain hole pretty easily. As I stated, I have not had an issue with it since. I have no idea how much that kit is but in my book it's a waste of money. You can easily do what the technician did using products from any home improvement store. I failed to see why you would need to replace the drain tube as thats not even an issue, its the fan shroud that causes icing.

We have tried to get a serviceman out to our house from/through fridgidare for over a month. They guy that's SUPPOSEDLY the only one in our area never answers our calls or the frigidaire company calls. Frigidaire refuses to use another repairman that is 15mins farther away than the other P.O.S... Guy that refuses to answer his phone. It's gotten to the point where we are going to have have a lawyer to make frigidaire legally follow through with their warranty or refund our money. I need to know where is can buy this kit or buy the pieces separately. If I can
@@dabull53 ours did the same thing. Now it wont cool. The fan wont work right. Looked and cant get a replacement fan for 2 MONTHS!!!! I need my freezer now. I can fix it myself. I have taken it apart and have taken the fan out. I just need the fan. I defrosted the whole freezer and cleaned it and turned it back on. It will cool but the fan wont circulate the cold in the freezer so it wont freeze nothing.

I have this exact same one!! I can do the repair myself. My fan made all kinds of noise cause the freezer opened up and defrosted some and we closed it back and you could hear the fan doing the....clack clack clack clack clack clack clack..... sound. So I emptied it out and cleaned it out and let it warm up and get room temp. Plugged it back in. It will cool but the fan wont runn hardly and wont cool the inside like it needs to. I have some Icy Pops or Freeze Pops in the freezer and they wont even freeze solid. It's cold in the freezer but without the fan running high and fast to circulate the air nothing will freeze. So that is the problem correct?
@@Wannagobackto1980 I put a fan in the freezer which will allow it to cool until you get a replacement fan. Most of the time when you defrost the fan it will work again.

We have done the moving the fan like that and we have steamed it do thaw the ice, but it keeps happening every few days. I'm over it and need a permanent fix. What does the kit do? Will it prevent the freezing from happening again? How do I make sure it isn't the defrost heater that failed?
Does anybody know how to remove the "EvenTemp" plastic cover plate on the inside back of the freezer? I've unclipped all the clips down to the fan and removed the one screw below the fan, but something is still holding onto it?

I have the exact model and problem. Confirmed the fan is frozen. That fan seal kit you mentioned, looks like it's for the fan that is accessed from the rear of the freezer not the one inside that's frozen. Can you confirm? Thanks!
This drain kit was the first attempt at fixing the problem and if you have a new freezer chances are the kit already was installed. You can look at the back of freezer there is a lower cover if it has a white square plastic piece then you already have the kit. Of course this did not fix the issue, the next fix was to enlarge the drain hole below the fan inside freezer, one screw and the rest of the grey panel will come off and then you can make a larger drain hole where the tiny one is. Make sure the hole is large enough so you don’t have to do it twice. This was the repair made by Frigidaire to fix my freezer. Hope this helps

There is a heater kit you can order from Frigidaire that will not allow the fans to ice up any longer. I do not know the part number tho. Your local parts vendor probably can help you.

I have this exact freezer it never goes below 5 degrees since day one. Should be a recall. Who the hell would put the fan at the bottom of the long gray vertical air vent on the back wall of the freezer where all the condensation would leak down to where the fan is and eventually freeze up. Its like they designed it with the intentions for the fan to freeze up every couple of months LOL! What a bunch of dummies!
Brought this freezer last year, BAD PRODUCT........ Technicians have been to my house 3-4 times within a year and could not fix the freezer. oh good luck with the company.....

Damn junk assed freezer! Ours just did the same thing . As stated, the kit probably will not help. I fully intend to modify the housing to let water run below the fan and not build up an ice dam. Manufacturers suck any more! There is no excuse for suck a piss poor design.
I agree, as a technician myself there was nothing wrong with their old and true designs that just worked... their engineers should have been fired over this design there are many bad decisions involved besides the fan etc.

What a piece of junk!! Pretty sure I'm dealing with the frozen fan as my freezer only freezes stuff at the bottom half of the unit. I can see that the drain plug is frozen. I'm not going to waste my time with a kit. As an engineer, I'll open the cover drain to 3/4" and thaw out the fan.
Frigidaire is a piece of junk i got the same problem the repair man said he would have to order the parts and would cost more than i paid for it i bought it from a appliance store it looks new but they can't swap it out until Tuesday the freezer blowing air into bottom of refrigerator and ice down the side of coils should have kept my old-school shorter refrigerator these are crap
No. The problem is the drain right below that fan is to small causing it to freeze and stop the fan. The drain hole needs to be much larger. Most newer freezers already have this kit installed.
@@RustyPumpkinRanch thanks for the reply. Wonder if theres a way to open up the drain hole? I've only had my freezer for a month and it has completely froze the fan up twice. I purchased it scratch and dent and dont think I will be able to return it. Trying my best to remedy the issue.
@@jasonroush81 yes this is what the service tech did when he came out. You have to remove the whole gray pierce with the fan attached, one stew on the bottom ant the rest is just clipped in place. Make sure you unplug fan first. Look at the bottom below fan and you will see a small hole, the technician used some cutters and made it much larger. It’s only been a few weeks since they did that and has been working ok. They know this is a problem and if mine stops working again I will be returning it under the lemon law.

The biggest POS Frigidaire has made in a while... building cheaper quality, raise in price. Went from Cold control, mechanical door switch and AC Evap Fan to Control board, cheap POT, Reed switch and cheap DC Fan that I can fart harder than this thing blows. Even with the new kit, still junk... bad design and the engineers should be fired over this one. I've seen a few, people get irate losing their large amounts of meat... I tell them to buy some old freezer off FB Marketplace would be a better gamble.
