Frigidaire Front Load Washer Won't Spin - How to Test the Motor 

Bill, when I started to fix my washer I was dead-set on the motor being bad. After watching your video, I was able to test the bearing and the motor. Both which tested within the specs you provided. The last option was the control board. I promptly replaced it and BAM....Works great! Thank you so much! You saved me a ton of cash on buying a motor that was not necessary as well as calling a repair person. With the help of your video, I saved over 400 plus and a massive amount of time I would have wasted trying to figure this out. So thank you for taking the time to post this. Your information was accurate, detailed and in the end, served a purpose helping me figure this out....

Thanks for posting this informative video. With a few used parts, I was able to get the washer back up and running. My motor control board was indeed bad. Washer was only spinning in one direction and not agitating or going to high speed. I was getting 7+ ohms on the motor, but not sure if that was also a problem (replaced anyway with a used motor in the low 6 ohms, which is slightly out of the range you specified). Let’s see if I can squeak a little more life out of this. You haven’t posted for a while, hope you are well.

I have a 2018 Electrolux eflw317tiw that stopped completely and had e57. Performed this test on the motor with inepensive harbor freight multimeter. My motor only has 3 wires but the test is the same . Showed motor was good. Turned out to be the motor control board. This video saved me big money . Thanks for the video. Btw I was able to remove the control board without taking the whole back off, there is enough room to remove and replace. There is one blind #2 square drive you need to get to but I found it pretty easy.

For those of you who have worn motor bearings, don't spend $50+ on bearings. I have a 2008 Frigidaire Gallery Washer/Dryer combo and the OEM bearings are labeled BB1-0622 AC. These can cost over $50 each. The size is 15X35X11 and the cross referenced part # is 6202-2RS (which cost less than $20 for a 10 pack). Now back to testing my motor...

Bill, thanks for this video especially the warnings about the sharp edges. If I hadn’t listen to them I can imagine how much mor blood I woods have gotten everywhere. 😂. I bled but at least I found out it was my motor control board.

When resistance testing the windings, what does it mean when I get a reading (e.g. 5 ohms) for less than one second, and then immediately returns to zero ohms?

Hey Bill, I'm trouble shooting my GE Frontload Washer GFWN1100 series. I pulled the motor and tested the pins and got 5.4 ohms across each set of coils and 118 ohms on the tach and spins freely by hand, I also checked continuity to it's housing to make sure it wasn't shorting out. When I try to run a cycle it locks the door, looking from the top down I can see the drive wheel turns about an 1/8th turn, door unlocks, then relocks, fills to foam level, stops filling then the drain pump kicks on and drains the water out. Can this motor still be bad although everything tests out correctly? I went ahead and ordered an inverter board and, well it didn't resolve the issue. So i'm thinking i'm going to have to replace the main upper control board, maybe a faulty relay or something on it. I am getting an Error 54 in the test mode, which relates to a drive motor issue, I just really don't think the motor is bad. Got any thoughts on this?

No spin. Cause was a heavy blanket that really rocked it for a few seconds on spin. Drain came loose too so reattached that. Motor hummed but spins freely, got the 4.6 on the first 3, but tach is only 88. Is that ok, maybe just a different motor? Assume the motor control board is the issue. Thanks for any help!

I am getting E5E error on Frigidaire machine. No spin in any cycle. Just drain. Tested motor and pin 4 and 5 reading was 85 OHM. Replaced Speed control board but nu luck. Hoping on main control board replacement now. Great Video though.

Will this test work on all model motors? I have 2020 midea washer.

If that's a three phase induction motor, I can't imagine anything being wrong, if the bearings are OK. Motors aren't usually the thing that goes wrong. I don't understand the tach leads on an induction motor, since it's frequency specific, and the spin, and wash cycles are just the matter of controlling the frequency, and adjusting the voltage proportionately to the frequency. Tach leads are necessary on carbon brush motors, because they are not self-regulating.

My drum spins, I just installed a new suction motor (not sure if that's the name) and it still not draining properly, but I feel it did need a new one because the noise level drastically minimized. The spin is slow and I guess it's not wringing the clothes fast enough to remove the excess water. I will continue my quest to figure out what's up.😅 I wonder if maybe that belt on the back is lose?

What does it mean if the numers drop from 4.0 down to 3.2 on all the first pins. Is that a good sign of a bad motor?

I hope you still read your comments. I have a Fridgidaire Affinity front load washer and the drum is frozen. Error code E59. My washer is more than 15 yrs old. Is it worth me fixing it or should I buy a new one. About 5 years ago I replaced the control board and the door latch, so this isn’t its first failure. It has gotten to where it sounded like a jet engine taking off when it would spin and now it’s locked up. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Ok, so I tested my motor and all of the ohms tested at 5.5 ohms except 4 to 5. That one showed 90.5 ohms. So I guess the motor is bad but then again you say at the end that 4 to 5 only relay speed info to the control board right? Anyways, I guess It still needs replacement.

Apparently all of those wire harness connectors are not the same. I would love to have had one like yours. The one I had has a 1/16” plastic tab tucked in between the male and the female surfaces that is a pain in the a.. to retract. I had to use a lock pick.
