One of my favorite decks from the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set, Food and Fellowship focuses on food tokens, lifegain, and using the value of those tokens to win you the game. I decided to build up the deck, and construct a list to upgrade the deck while still remaining true to the theme and flavor! I hope you enjoy second breakfast!

Been having fun with Shelob while it’s hard to anticipate how the game will unfold, the food tokens she makes retain the static abilities of creatures she takes down making some wacky interactions.

I do appreciate that you tried keeping as much LOTR flavor as possible. My own list for Frodo and Sam eschews the LOTR flavor for raw power. Also focuses more on the amount of life gained rather than just gaining life. And a lot of cards trigger when you gain precisely 3 or more life, which Food tokens just so happen to give when sacrificed.

I am working on an optimized list that will go less LOTR and more the "oh hey, this is a good card that does a thing" route.

I feel like Anointed Precession and Doubling Season would be almost required for this deck to just make an insane amount of food and treasure plus the Nuka Cola machine when the Fallout set comes out. Would have so much food and treasure you wouldn't know what to do with it all.

I agree, I'm not a fan of death combos, but it's the two that I'll leave in the deck, the Sam+cat+vampire one and the Nuka+bat+peregrin one.

Braids, Arisen Nightmare is pretty good in this deck, too. Turn end sac a food draw up to 3 cards.

I think cranial plating could be a great win con in here. With frodo as the ring bearer he won't be able to be blocked except by >1 power creatures. You can Equip cranial plating at instant speed after blockers are declared for huge damage.

An excellent suggestion! I'm currently working on a list for Frodo, Sauron's Bane, who might be able to use a similar strategy!

Annointed Procession is huge for this. Doubles the amount of food tokens you generate. Same with Mondrak l, but I feel like Mondrak us much worse for harming the deck thematics.

Definitely a good use of the food tokens. I think I passed over it because I didn't have one, and couldn't swing the pricetag at the time.

Do you think Smeagol, Helpful Guide would work in here too? I know there isn't a TON of aristocrat, but there is some tempting.

I would say yes. I like the idea of sneaking opponent lands onto my side of the field. That is a pretty fun little tricksies.

I love the deck and I play with it all time, but it's slow, manipulating the food tokens isn't easy and needs time to build some strong combos, Which is an issue against aggro and control players.

Is there an infinite combo with Peregrine Took and Academy Manufactor or it only triggers once? I'm confused

Nope they're replacement effects they only trigger once

Im new to myg so this might soud silly but the f&f commander deck has 100 cards right, and 10 double sided token cards? Do i have to take a card out of the deck to add a token card to keep it at 100? Ive looked for the answer everywhere i feel like and cant figure it out!

So tokens don't actually need to be included in the 100. They include the token cards so when your cards create them, you have an easy way to represent them. You don't have to remove any cards from your deck to make any room, I often keep my token pile off to the side until I need them.

Maybe it’s a stupid question but I can’t find Frodo Adventures Hobbit and Sam, Loyal attendant and a lot of other cards in Magic the gathering arena. Can some help me out?

Unfortunately, I don't think some of the LOTR cards made it to Arena. Not sure why, but I think only the main set was added, if even?

Just to note. "Partner With" is not "Partner", and thus Sam is not a Commander.

Sam can only be the partner commander if Frodo is as well. Partner with is only a modifier to the partner rule that specifies which named card the other Commander could be. Same goes for the Merry and Pippin of Isengard cards that also came in the precon!
