From Anti-Catholic Presbyterian to Catholic - Morris' Conversion Story (Christian Testimony)

Morris grew up in a Assemblies of God Church, went through an atheist phase as a teenager, and then became a staunchly Anti-Catholic Reformed Presbyterian. In college, he attended a Catholic school and met serious Catholics for the first time. He was determined to become a Presbyterian minister, but also found himself “sneaking” to Mass.

Dear Administrator of this Channel, I am a cradle Catholic. I was drawn towards the conservative evangelical Protestantism in my adolescence, teens and early 20s. After a long journey of 35 years in Protestantism, I reverted to the Catholic Faith having studied the early Church history, the formation of the Canon of the Bible , and revisiting the Reformation only in 2018. Since then I have been testifying to my spiritual journey back to Catholicism. Last year I published a book entitled " A Journey back to the Authentic Apostolic Church: Exploring the Historical, Biblical and Doctrinal Roots- A Personal Perspective " - 300 pp in hardcover. I have been conducting a series of Catholic Apologetics sessions . How nice to hear that you have discovered and joined that Authentic Apostolic Church as I have done. Congratulations to this brother. May the Good Lord abundantly bless him in his spiritual journey in the one and only true Holy Apostolic Catholic Church. I wish to you that I will be pleased to share my conversion story in this Channel. Prabhath de Silva

I'm the same way. No TV, no real news. I don't put the radio on in my truck anymore. Prefer to listen to Gregorian chant, Ave Maria, Salve Regina and many of the Latin songs from the Latin Mass. I've been downsizing for at least the last 10 years and live very simply. I'm very content being by myself and honestly I wish I could live in a monastery and just pray for the rest of my life.

I love his answer at the end @ 39:00 about sitting in front of the Tabernacle and having a conversation with Jesus if you are thinking about converting or exploring the Catholic Church. I am 58 years old and I'm a cradle Catholic and I only really started digging into my Catholic faith and trying to learn it around the beginning of 2020 and I spend a good portion of my day still trying to learn. I do try to go to Adoration at least one hour a week and I have been doing that for about two years but I have to say that I have yet to have the experience that he and others have had but it doesn't mean that I don't believe; I most certainly believe in the presence of the body, blood, soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, I'm just not one of those lucky ones yet. I don't even watch the news or TV anymore but I like to say that I follow God's news and what's going on in our Church. I try to learn about the Marian Apparitions and the Blessed Virgin Mary's messages appearing at different places all over the world. I love to learn about the Saints. It's almost never ending. Dominus Vobiscum Pax

That's wonderful about your own story! Amen! Add yes, I also thought Morris' advice was very wise. In general, many converts I have interviewed have had some kind of experience being in front of the Blessed Sacrament. We are so lucky that Christ comes to be with us. Truly the Eucharist is the fruit of the tree of life.

@@FiledUnderFaith It seems to me and what I've observed that Jesus sometimes reaches out a little more in some way to either non-Catholics or fallen away Catholics to bring them back. I've had my spiritual experiences in other ways in the past that have gotten my attention and helped me believe or get back on track and there are plenty of Eucharistic miracles to help with the belief of the real presence. If you look hard enough there are unexplainable miracles happening all the time, big and small and Heaven is most definitely trying to get our attention right now.

This gentleman was tagged as “anti-Catholic” but I heard no specifics on how he was anti-Catholic. Did he persecute Catholics? I don’t understand. BTW, the Reformed tradition teaches real presence. This gentleman could not have been more wrong when describing Protestantism. I completely reject his characterizations of Protestantism. I don’t think he has really been exposed to or catechized in classical Protestantism since he was not raised in that tradition. We can say perhaps he is a former Evangelical but Protestant definitely not. He is obviously clueless on classical Protestantism’s theology of the sacraments. I heard absolutely nothing about his being a communicant of a Presbyterian congregation. Did I miss something? “Falling in with a Reformed crowd” doesn’t make you a communicant of a Presbyterian congregation. There were no specifics on this. Which I thought was odd. “Falling in with a crowd” doesn’t mean you were properly catechized in the Reformed tradition (which BTW is far broader in scope than Calvin). Again odd.

I am a cradle Catholic who has been a Bible believing evangelical Christian for the last 20 years. I watch these conversion videos and still don’t get. To me there is so much off about the Catholic Church. They say they put the Bible together yet they don’t follow it. They think their “tradition “ trumps scripture. Um No. And it’s all about Jesus our savior and king. It is not about Mary at all. The Bible gives her no distinction above other people. In fact in Mary’s song she sung of her “Savior “. Sinless people do not need a savior. She was a sinner just like us. She knew it. Only Jesus was the only person who was ever sinless because He was also God. I still don’t see the evidence for Catholicism

Hi there, I sincerely appreciate your comment and that you take time to watch these videos. I am curious, did you have an understanding of why the Catholic Church holds certain beliefs when you were a Catholic? It would be too hard to answer all of these questions in this thread, but I will say, Catholics do have answers to all of the concerns you raised. If you check out Trent Horn, Catholic Answers, or even simply read the Catechism, you'll get a good understanding of what the Church believes about these things. I think the thing that it comes down to is that Jesus gave us so much more than evangelicalism. I always say that when I was an evangelical, I knew Jesus, but I was in a long distance relationship with him. I knew his voice-I had his words in Scripture, but it's only been through the sacraments that I have met and experienced Jesus face to face. He gave us his very body and blood. I cannot express the peace and contentment that I have now that I attend the Mass, that I receive the Eucharist, that I hear the words of absolution in confession. I never felt the sense of family and unity that I now have with other Catholics and the Christians in heaven. More than Catholicism helping me grow closer to God, though, I am Catholic because I am convinced that Jesus truly founded the Church on Peter as the rock. If you look at writings of the early church, you will see they believed that they saw the chair of Peter as the guarantee of Christian unity. (I have an article with more about this on my website, filedunderfaith.com) I don't know if that is helpful for you, but that's my answer. God bless you.

I propose to Morris and any Catholic to read the lutheran confessions so they discover what ''protestantism'' really dealt with. Pentecostalism and Presbyterianism are not genuinely ''protestant''. In fact, they have many common things with catholicism, especially in soteriology. Give a chance to confessional lutheranism. You will be surprised.

Hi Jordan, I’ll check out more of the Book of Concord, though I will say I am unlikely to go from being Catholic to Lutheran, because I am quite convinced based on my past studies that Jesus founded the Catholic Church while Luther founded the Lutheran Church.
