A beginner's guide to character creation in the Elder Scrolls Chapter 2 - Daggerfall. This is part one of the series. I don't claim to be an expert on the topic, but I've learn a lot of things that will help the first time player through Daggerfall!

If you play Daggerfall Unity, be aware that a lot of the informations in this guide are obsolete as it relies on bugs/balance issues that have been fixed in Unity.

It took me a few attempts to get the right character build and this lays out a good MAGE or WARRIOR build that is a good guide to follow strictly or leniently. I personally did the Mage but both seem strong. Hope this helps

@@finesseandstyle They fixed things like taking immunity to magic and critical weakness to everything else because the magic immunity superseded the crit weakness. High elves being able to take critical weakness to paralysis since they were immune etc. Most of the really egregious char creation cheese.

@@finesseandstyle For Unity, honestly, you should just roleplay. Reading the Daggerfall Chronicles (the manual) helps a little. There's old guides on the internet floating around about how to roleplay in Daggerfall too. Exploits were never the biggest draw to the game for me anyway, I never abused void ranging or immunity to (x) trickery even in DOS. Read your character's backstory! It's a good way to get into the mindset of who your character is.

Honestly the most difficult part about daggerfall is that you basically can't decline quests, because it seems like if I don't do many quests nobody gives a hoot and just won't answer ANY questions when I'm asking for things

There's a daggerfall setup that you can download from uesp. It has all the patches plus you don't have to keep opening it like that although it still runs through dosbox.

I was running it the old school way and patching it like crazy because it was so glitchy. That UESP was a lifesaver. Here it is en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files

Here is a tip for helping you level your character faster. Only the 3 Primary Skills, the first 2 Major Skills and the very first Minor skills that are chosen for those slots are the skills that determine your characters leveling. The rest of the Minor and the very last major skills, do not. So to efficiently level your character, consider hard on what skills you will be using the most frequent and put those skills in those slots i mentioned above.

Just a minor pet peeve. It’s not really the land of High Rock you’re exploring. But rather the Illiac Bay, which encompasses both High Rock AND Hammerfell. It’s two countries that you are exploring. Sorry for being a nerd.

Yeah, saved me a few times lol, though he was right about it leveling up on it's own. You could also train it if you got cash too

Did you try Daggerfall Unity ? It makes the game fully fast anmd playable for modern PC plus the mods that improve graphics and gameplay.

I've read that Critical Strikes only affects to hit, unless you mod Unity with the Critical Hits mod.

Probably; there are times when you don't have arrows, though likely not in the end game

How do you kiII the Scorpions? Seems like no matter what I do, they dont take damage. Then they paralyze me & kiII me

Might be a Unity thing, but Etiquette also stopped an Archer from attacking me one time.

played it literally today could not get out that first dungeon, also you have a taskbar at the bottom of your screen....i do not hhmmm. it is unity im playing maybe its different i dunno, dont like the fact enemies spawn behind you in a room you just cleared out and have no mana left and bam a dude behind you with a claymore...lol god i want to play this

unity removes the taskbar because it adds shortcuts to all of those. unity modernizes controls to 21 century. enemies can only spawn if you sleep if someone appeared behind your back it was because they followed you.

Did Paladins used to use blunt weapons a lot? I wonder when it changed to swords.

Probably meant Cleric In DnD Clerics could not use sharp or pointy weapons (weapons that draw blood basically) So they were restricted to blunt type weapons like maces and such
