What’s not mentioned here is that McCord’s father wanted to be assurances that he would start, no way was Ryan Day going to do that, or should he have done that. So without a promise of starting he chose not to compete.

Kyle IS a B+ QB in a college offense. B+ college QBs don't make the NFL let alone start. Day runs a pro style passing game with the route tree depending on both the QB and the WRs reading the same coverage (Pre and Post snap). You must be capable of on time, tight window throws. Kyle struggled with this (as many QBs do once they hit the pros) CJ Stroud grasped the concepts and threw with ANTICIPATION which essential in Day's offense. And he wasn't a pass away, he threw a pick against ND... it was dropped. Nice guy but he wasn't it.

Time will tell if you are right about Coach Day and that take is not unfair imo. But to say he "couldn't beat the team up north" glosses over the issue of a multi-year, mafia-like cheating scandal, the commencement of which perfectly coincides with their overnight shift from a joke team that ducked Ohio State and their three remaining games (also refusing to compete in a bowl game) to a playoff contender.
@willowbrook2717
@willowbrook2717 3 месяца назад
Yep, "mafia-like cheating scandal". These are the delusions that ohio people cling to that get them from year to year. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be laughable. And yet, it IS laughable. Go ahead and get the "best" HS players and spend the most on transfers and trying to keep your team of 5 stars from going pro. It isn't going to do any good in the end. Watch out! I'm taking video of your superstar team with my Iphone 6 and will be breaking down every movement in every single situation, down, personnel grouping, and tendency possible so that my favorite team will be able to thrash ohio year in and year out. I'm just sure that ohio st is as pure and clean as the wind-driven snow and that they would NEVER try to figure out any other teams signals...oh wait! They did that?! And the players bragged about it too? Well, well, well. You people from ohio have gone so far past the line of reason that only the devoted enemies of Michigan will pay any mind. Its not whether you're embarrassing yourselves anymore. Its how long you will continue to do it. Ohio Soft University. If you don't find a way to win against Michigan this year with all the advantages you have then I guess that will be proof that the "joke" that Michigan used to be must indeed be cheating...FOUR YEARS IN A ROW. 🙂 Could you imagine? Almost a complete turnover of coaching staff because many went to the NFL, plus so many players from the last three years' teams in the NFL and Michigan STILL continues to crush the nuts. Man, if I was from ohio I would be desperate too.

Thank you for a good video and fair presentation. As an Ohio State fan, some of this really is disappointment at what could have been. Our offense took a noticable step back just as our defense started coming into form. I do not think it is fair to blame McCord. He is not the same QB as Haskins, Fields or Stroud, but we all knew that and no one reasonably could expect him to fill those shoes. I think many Buckeye fans fel McCord only needed to be a game manager for us to win and were frustrated when that did not happen. Part of it was QB inconsistency, lack of mobility and sometimes making poor decisions. Also, I noticed that McCord seldom hit his receivers in stride, often onderthrowing, which killed YAC. Still, the deficiencies on the OL (together with his lack of mobility) did not do McCord any favors. The problems on offense have a lot to do with poorer OL play. Ultimately, I think McCord will do better in a system more fitted to his strengths. But I guess we will see ...

The issue wasn't the fan base and stats didn't tell the story. McCord had 1 good game against Michigan St, that's it. If you watched all the games, he should've had double-digit interceptions a d he missed a boat load of open receivers. Against TTUN, the Bucks should've blown them out with all the missed opportunities to wide open receivers. The O line had issues, but mostly in the run game. I hope McCord does good at Syracuse, but I'm glad he left. I hope Day doesn't make the same mistake and start Brown, if he couldn't beat out McCord then he most likely won't do any better this year. I guess we'll see..

The problem was not Kyle McCord it was the fan base. Bro had a better record than Stroud did his first year and had the same record that Stroud did his second year. Fan base was so convinced that the backups were 1 million times better and then it turned out they were abject failures scoring three points in their bowl game and had to go running screaming and crying to the portal. If you’re not a generational quarterback like Stroud the toxic Ohio State fan runs you out of town. Because for whatever reason because they’re Ohio State they think that they deserve or are entitled to that.

McCord was in the system for 3 SEASONS! He never showed promise or flashed the ability of a 5 Star. He's got a good arm that's it. CJ Stroud became a 5 Star after the Elite Eleven Camp and there was never a doubt on whether he was better than McCord. You can't blame the fanbase for that. Go re-watch the Akron game in '21 and tell me he's it. He wasn't. Day knew it that's why he refused to let him throw in mop up games and made CJ promise not to run. He knew Kyle wasn't it. He's mediocre and at tOSU, mediocre ain't it. If Will Howard has the grit of JT Barrett or Fields they'll be fine. Day can live with a General, even if he ain't the best passer. But all around Mid AF? Nah. He doesn't read pro style Defenses (at all) Absolutely ZERO pocket awareness Stares down receivers or receiver (Marvin) Can not go from the chalkboard to the field. Never grasped the concepts of the offense in real time The constant calls for grounding are mind numbing (Panic Mode on EVERY play) No emotion or drive to win (he never hinted at being a leader in the huddle) 3 Seasons. The above wasn't going to change in one more. He's a JAG Good guy and certainly best wishes Kyle. Go Bucks.

Kyle is the main reason we lost to Michigan and didn’t make the playoffs.. although I still feel we should’ve made the playoffs still anyway for as close as we played Michigan on the road. Kyle really didn’t have much to show for 12 games.. especially considering he played the majority of every game. Would have won the championship no doubt in my mind!! Had and has NOTHING to do with the Ohio State fans.......... It simply is what it is....... And if you take Marvin Harrison Jr. out of the picture his stats and achievements take a serious nose dive..... No way anybody can argue that.... And maybe he will flourish this coming year under a new coach.... But it didn't happen at Ohio State because he simply just wasn't at that level yet..... No bones about it! CJ. Stroud would have, did and does shine no matter who his receivers are..... Don't understand how some people try to use Ohio States fan base as an excuse........ Did you see or hear of any other ELITE college programs showing any interest in McCord??? Case closed!! No body is disrespecting him... At least I'm certainly not..... Yeah, because Ohio State had so many other options. Just take a look at the Missouri game for reference. The fact is his dad did the right thing. McCord didn’t play badly against Michigan. Now his plan is just bribe guys to come in and win for him. No wonder why his RB room took off.

@@DeshCanterahh sure because all the notable names at Ohio state played vs Missouri… In terms of x’s, and o’s day called a fine game vs Michigan. The issue in that game resided in 2 things. The first pick, when Harrison ran a lazy route, and the defense. Initially the defense was great, but Knowles never pressed and stacked the box because he was too afraid of the big play. That allowed Michigan to run all over OSU that 2nd half. McCord is a solid QB in terms of arm talent. But he’s too slow of a processor, and we both know he’s afraid of the competition. He was 100% going to Nebraska before raiola committed. All day told McCord, and his dad is that there was no guarantee McCord would start. He tried to convince McCord to stay and compete.

Before everyone in this comment section decides to blame the toxic fans at OSU, there are many things to consider that this video doesn't even touch. Kid threw into coverage all the time. His throws were often off. He was not good. He was not ready for football at a major program. Granted, his O-line was not great, but McCord had the jitters in the pocket often. The two biggest reasons he went 11-1 is that he had maybe the best supporting cast of skill players in all of college football on offense, and the defense was always able to keep the team in games. We will see if he is a huge upgrade a Syracuse, but many Buckeye fans feel as if he did not develop as a top tier QB should and it was the team that went 11-1, and not necessarily because of McCord's leadership. There are also two major factors you neglected to mention that make his transfer more understandable. OSU fans would question the idea that McCord was brought to OSU as the "quarterback of the future" given that Quinn Ewers committed the next year. In an OSU fan's understanding, Ewers was the QB of the future, not McCord. That is at least how this OSU fan and all my friends remember it. However, the whole Ewers situation was screwed up by Day and McCord become the default QB at the top. I think we can all see the difference between McCord and Ewers. Secondly, McCord's dad is known to be a notorious a**hole. The story goes that back in December, McCord Sr demanded that Day name Kyle the starter before spring camp, knowing that Day had been talking with Will Howard all along. Day wanted competition to drive Kyle or whoever to be better, McCord Sr did not want it at all. Knowing that Will Howard was coming and that his son could possibly lose his starting position (not to mention the work Brown was putting into being the starter), McCord Sr pushed Kyle to transfer to ensure he would get playing time to help his prospects of going to the NFL. Some of it is a business decision for getting to the NFL.

Summary: Your HC coach set up his young quarterback to fail and then stood by and watched while your nasty fans tore him to shreds rather than taking responsibility for his own failures. Garbage. What’s really bizarre is how blind you guys are about Ryan Day. He benched Joe Burrow. He yawned while Quinn Ewers skipped town for a better program, and chose McCord over JJ McCarthy. That’s a playoff QB and 2 National Champions that Day passed on. A huge weakness of Ryan Day’s teams are there are single points of failure at too many positions, QB being the most glaring. Good luck with Will Howard, the most recent addition of Ryan Day’s Bribe and Bling football. I wouldn’t want my kid anywhere near Ryan Day as a coach.

He cost us the game this year and basically.. cost us the whole season because that one loss kept us out of the playoffs and out of the B1G championship.. Kyle had very little to show for playing a full season.. especially when he played the majority of each game too. There have been several recent OSU QB’s that put up way better numbers than Kyle and in half the game time.. then Kyle has the gall to offer coach an ultimatum of he either he has a guaranteed starting position next year or he’s walking.. the ducking audacity given all the circumstances! Then for him to not get that guarantee and run for the portal before our bowl game.. yeah no, Kyle deserved every bit of criticism he got. He in no way played well enough this year to have a guaranteed starting job next year and especially considering the incoming talent we have at QB! For him to make that demand when he didn’t earn it.. or threaten to transfer out if he didn’t get it.. no.. that’s not cool. Even still, the vast, vast majority of Ohio State fans I have seen, have still wished Kyle well at his new school and thanked him for what he did do for us. That is not toxic.. and it wasn’t toxic to criticize him for how he handled the situation either lol You sound like some sore loser/ hater that’s just coping because your favorite team loses to Ohio State on a regular basis 😂😂😂😂 cope harder little one And “overrated”..!?! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Please explain and then tell us all who YOUR team is. Bet you wont lol

Its always funny to hear people say we "ran Kyle out of OSU"... Kyle didn't want to compete for the starting job again and made his own decision that he felt was best for him. I understand his decision and respect his choice but no one made him do anything. He wanted a guaranteed opportunity being it is his last year in college and went to a place where he was able to get that. Good luck to him, but no regrets on this side.

His coach didn’t support him and your nasty fanbase crucified him. It was trash and I don’t blame him at all for taking off. CJ Stroud lost to Michigan twice too, and by larger margins. Buckeye fans projected all your venom at him when it should he aimed at Ryan Day, who called the plays and set McCord up to fail on multiple occasions.
@justjean9500
@justjean9500 3 месяца назад
@@DeshCanter respectfully you have no idea what you’re talking about. There’s nothing that shows Kyle wasn’t supported by the coaching staff. When the season ended Kyle chose to leave because Day was opening the QB competition back up and Kyle being in his last year of eligibility wanted something guaranteed. Which I understand and respect, but you got it though. 🤷🏾‍♂️

@dicklandon Месяц назад
Kyle got a raw deal from fans and coaches. Here are the facts: (1) Day got his head coaching job by getting prior coach’s endorsement if he would hire his son-in-law as QB coach although son-in-law knew nothing about being a QB. He was mocked by Stroud and Miller. (2) As a true freshman McCord was equal or better than Stroud. (3) Day gave Stroud the QB 1 designation because he was backup to Fields but Day called plays ineffectively and Stroud got flustered when under pressure resulting in fans getting down on Stroud and calling for McCord to replace him as QB1. Day decided to stay with Stroud to give him confidence. (4) Stroud gained confidence and became an outstanding QB1. (5) McCord was put into 6 games during Stroud’s last season and although he only played for a few plays he was told to handoff or throw sideline passes since to score after coming in with a lead of 40+ points would be bad sportsmanship. That eliminated his eligibility for a year (6) When Stroud entered the draft, McCord expected to be QB1 the following year. (7) Day decided instead to have a competition with Devon Brown that ran into the second game of the season before Day named McCord QB1. Since they weren’t named starting QB neither McCord or Brown got invitations to camps like Mannings QB camp where NFL coaches and scouts identify their potential draft picks nor did either get paid NIL money. Their money eventually went to Day and coaches as a bonus for going to a bowl game (based on McCord’s winning every game except Michigan). (8) McCord has been trained to be a Pro Style QB and in his whole football career from 6th grade through the Michigan game only lost 2 games. But Day called all plays and did not call plays that were to his talents. Instead he chose to call running plays when McCord was on a run passing. (9) Unknown to anyone because Day kept it quiet was that McCord was injured in the Notre Dame game with a torn ankle ligament and had to have cortisone shots and heavy wrapping to even play. Day kept McCord’s injury quiet while making a big deal of Marvin Harrison’ sprain. Day again did the same thing when McCord fractured his other ankle the game before the Michigan game. McCord was never told he had a fracture. He was just given cortisone shots and wrapped. Even though he was playing hurt and couldn’t set his feet normally throughout most of the season he still won all but one game. He was a true hero for OSU but because Day felt his job was in jeapordy if he didn’t win the Michigan game and need a scapegoat. Corey Dennis his QB coach also felt the same jeapordy and worked with a blogger buddy to provide lots of negative comments including “Honda” McCord. All the unknowing Buckeye fans jumped on their comments and took the bloggers nasty comments as truthful and became a whole new adversary to McCord. After the Michigan loss McCord and his father met with Day to ask him if he would change his play calling and let Kyle playcall to his talent. Kyle was also concerned about only having one year of eligibility left and asked if he would be QB1 next year. Day said he would have another competition. McCord said he won 11 games and felt he deserved QB1. Day said there would be a competition and he was Kyle’s father he would recommend entering the portal. It wasn’t the conversation that Kyle or his father expected. They left the meeting feeling unappreciated and giving everything to a coach was only out for himself and decided to leave

What went "wrong" is if Ryan Day has a chance to improve the QB room, he's going to take it, & Kyle's dad didn't like not having any guarantees, so he bolted for Nebraska ... until Dylan Raiola showed up ....& then Kyle went with Syracuse. This isn't a rip on Kyle or Syracuse either. I'm rooting for Kyle. It's simply what happened. No big explanation necessary.

What happened? The OSU Buckeyes were 11-0, and faced, and barely lost to the Best Michigan team in the past 20 years ! That's what happened. Buckeyes lost by a few points to Michigan , who went on to be 15-0 and National Champions ! The answer to the question, "What happened?" is , an awesome Michigan team happened. That is all. Ohio fans we ready to hang anyone that wasn't perfect. Mc Cord did fine, but just not good enough to beat the very excellent Michigan defense. I wish him well at Syracuse.

People who aren’t fans just don’t understand what that game means. Throwing two picks and practically selling the game at the end forcing it to Harrison is why the fans turned on him. You can not lose that game. Stroud didn’t get this treatment because it was the defense that sold those years, and they got cooked by the fans too. That game means more than anyone seems to give it credit for.

Sure you can look at the stats and say “he wasn’t that bad” but if go back and watch the games you will see him consistently miss reads and make bad throws. I think he’s a D1 starter for sure cause he flashed potential at times last year but I don’t think he’s anywhere near the top of college football in terms of being a QB. Do I think he would’ve improved this year if he stayed at Ohio State? No, I think he lacked confidence when playing for us and for his sake (and ours) he had to transfer. Final thing I’ll say is when you are the QB of Ohio State you have the weapons to be great, and if you aren’t then you are underperforming. Good luck to him at Syracuse though.

The arm talent is there. Just a slow processor. Michigan he does get unwarranted hate. That first pick it was the right read, Harrison ran a lazy route and never made an attempt for the ball. The 2nd one, if the o-line holds up a tick longer, it’s a completion. But at the same time, McCord shouldn’t have patted the ball with a defender in his face.

I mean no offense, but the video is pretty misinformed. The stats do lie in this case. First off, McCord suffered an ankle injury vs Penn State that rendered him statuesque for the rest of the season, because it would not heal. His throwing motion includes a pronounced step forward that leaves him more vulnerable to sacks, fumbles and QB hits in the pocket, something that he could not afford to do behind an average offensive line. That, coupled with poor decision making and spotty throws in critical moments (See the game-winning drive vs. Notre Dame-- He showed poise here, for example, but nearly threw 2 costly interceptions that would have sealed a loss), made McCord a tough sell to the Ohio State staff going into year 4. I couldn't say Ohio State fans ran him out of town, but they certainly played a part in the final decision. I'm of the mind that Ryan Day was not pleased with his QB.

No one ever mentions the horrendous offensive line or the inability to run the ball. The receiver's can't or wont block which eliminates big perimeter runs. A new starting QB needs two things to be successful a decent offensive line and a good running game, this kid had neither of these. I'm not saying he'd be a world beater, but when you breakdown the all 22 film the offensive line was bad, he could never get the opportunity to step into the pocket because the Center, Right Guard or Right Tackle were constantly getting beat.

McCord isn’t why they lost. Coach is soft and the fans drink his Kool-Aid year after year. If Day had decided to run the ball, versus wanting to throw all over the field, they might have won. They were moving the ball well running but Day wants to “look better” by passing for a lot vs grind out a win.
