It's nice to see a professional driver still interested in the job and sharing all the vast information with us. I especially like the facilities that you show and how the paperwork is done not many drivers do this which is a big part of the job day to day.
@8:19 I spent 15 years driving HGVs from Nantes area to the French/Italian Alpes. This sign means you have to have snow chains with the vehicle and you are allowed to have studded (winter/snow) tires on the road between the shown dates, normally forbidden on motorways. You often load up near my mother's in Almoradi/Orihuela. Keep up the great videos, whilst I have given up the road, these videos make me remember what I miss about the job, great views and something new every day.

I recall getting stuck in rural France due to farmer's strikes in the mid 80's on a family holiday. There were long lines of holiday traffic stuck with a tractor+trailer parked across the road and the french farmers were giving verbal what-for to any car with a GB sticker on it (I guess they were protesting about 'foreign' imports). One of them spotted the "Ecosse" sticker on our vehicle and he started shouting "Whiskey...whiskey!!" to his colleagues and ushered us around the road block via a field margin !! Got love the French attitude to everything 🤣😁
😂😂 I remember a long time ago the guy I work for now bought a lorry for his son to drive. It had a Welsh flag on the number plate, confused everyone 😂😂
Great video again Sherralin..... I was super excited when you went over the Millau bridge as it was on my bucket list (I know I am that sad person) which we managed to do in November on the way back from Barcelona (we live near Limoges) but the visibility was less than 100yds as the rain and mist was so bad we never saw the views so a big thankyou. And the town is St Flour and was a fortified village on top of a extinct volcano and the building you could see was the cathedral and well worth a visit. Then you went Le Mans/Alencon which was my old stomping ground from miss-spent youth as we would go to Le Mans to watch bike racing so know the area really well, happy days. Back on. Had to log off last night. Just got back as you came off for Caen and then took your own initiative by going where the others don't follow. Well done Sherralin, that's what I've done in the past as well. Take alternative routes. This is what happens when relying totally 100% on satnavs. Atlas books never fail you. If you know your way about use the knowledge. My favourite saying is "Never forget what you've learned"
Great vid again, love the use of old school and new, ( sat nav and paper map ) I always carried an atlas on it I marked up places to park over night, good places to eat etc. Stay safe.
Been watching your videos for a while & finally decided to comment. I really enjoy them as you travel on a lot of roads/routes I visited in the 70's while living in Scotland (North Sea oil bum!) and riding about on my Triumph Bonneville. Plus your narrations are always interesting and informative. Your driving skills are also impressive especially sitting on the "wrong side" of the truck!! Just found your channel, really enjoyed it. Not a truck driver but I use the Millau road down to the south of France a number of times a year and on to Spain towing my caravan. Some of the descents are quite scary with the caravan so with all the weight of the truck and trailer must be quite a challenge. Agree it puts a strain on vehicles and fuel disappears very quickly on the accents, also notice the number of burnt tarmac on the road where vehicles have given up is a common site. Don't use the toll roads unless forced but find the Millau bridge very expensive so use a overnight stop in a campsite in Millau on the river which costs the same.

Hi Sherralin, good to hear you extolling the value of still carrying a map. With 42 years driving heavies in UK/Europe I know I’m turning into an old codger, I have never & still don’t use a Sat-Nav but I don’t criticise those that do, each to their own, but you can’t beat the proven ‘Old Skool’ values. My son is 18 & just passed his Class 1 & is venturing into Europe, luckily he works for a small family company & has a great Boss, but I have told him that no matter how swanky his Sat-Nav is you always carry a map as a back-up, we have younger drivers where I work & they are 100% reliant on their Sat-Navs, as I always say technology is great when it works, but you have got to be able to work it out yourself when you haven’t got an I-pad, floppy disc or a mouse! New subscriber & I will definitely be watching again, like your calm/balanced approach to the job. Take care.
To be honest, I use both. GPS, google maps are really helpful when you need to look at a specific area, like trying to find the best way into a farm etc. Being able to walk the little man down a street that has a bridge on can let you know if you can get under it or not. But a paper map gives you the bigger picture, let’s you see there’s different roads apart from the obvious. Great to hear your son has pasted his test, young people is just what the industry needs. The bridge is the height from the valley floor to the top of the pylons. A few years ago, Eddie Stobart got some of his trucks (I think it was around 12 of them) to go across whilst a picture was taken (the photographer was on the left side high up on the hill as you approached the bridge). The police intervened to say they couldn't do it one after the other, and had to spread themselves out. I just wished I had gone over when we were on holiday. May have said in earlier videos. We and hubby did a trip to Castellane in the Provence area back in 1993 when the French lorry drivers were on strike. The whole of the motorway network was packed with vehicles (it was in June), and we travelled from Dieppe to Castellane just using the N roads. It was good and got to see some wonderful scenery, and managed to get fuel with no problem as we had a petrol engine rather than diesel as the French use mainly diesel, so they had virtually run out. I actually enjoyed pitting my wits, as I loved using the paper map. No satnavs back then🤣

Hi Sherralin. Been watching your videos for a couple of months. Especially loved the one where you loaded in my home town of Durham I regularly used to run up the A 75 empty after tipping in Perpignan on my way back to Germany where I now live. Toll free and very pretty. Before the viaduct was built, heading down the mountainside into Millau was always a bit of an experience 😂 Fair play to you for coming off the motorway and working your way around the jams. Most drivers would have just stayed on the motorway ans not risked "going native" 🤣🤣👍 Take care and keep the great videos coming 👍

I would have had no problem giving you a start, It would have been give you the keys see you later lol Looking back on some of the Clowns out there that been there and done it, I Could / Would not trust them to make Dover, Take it from me their are not many out there with common sence left, My g/f at the time could drive our DAF with a 13 speed fuller better than most men could, I am proud at what you do and how you do it, More than i can say for some on RU-vid ( Men )? Hi sherralin done that drive from beziers to Claremont Fernand màny times in the 90s up and down is right through all them little towns,watched them build the milleau viaduct but sadly never got to drive over it, we used to drive all way up to calais . I remember sleeping in topline r on a high pass near Claremont was star watching with sun roof open , woke up cold id fell asleep and it bloody snowed on me 😂😂😂😂 ah the good old days of the 90s. If you are finishing before you embark. Finish your day then use the ferry movement to get on, put it back on break once on board. If you are finishing once you have boarded but will need to finish break when you are getting off, you use the ferry movement to get off then put it back onto break to finish break.
@truth3358 Yes that’s what it’s called. You use your “ferry movement” to interrupt your break. Remember though , you can interrupt your break only twice, both interruptions added together must not be more that 1 hour.

When you went through did any other truck follow you l have had this with other trucks then they followed me. Not know why they do that. Like sheep following all the other trucks. Lol
The French farmers were a bit late coming to the current lot of protests! The Germans and Dutch started it off with the French and Belgians joining in. It`s huge protest aimed at the EU which wants to decimate farming in preference to artificially produced food. It`s just that the French go the whole nine yards in the way they do it, hence they get the biggest coverage.
As the mother of a farmer I can totally empathise with them. But this is not a political channel and I will not make any comment. Thanks for watching 😁
Murmont3560; if You want subtitles do this when video is playing. Lightly touch screen of Phone untill You see a bunch of different symbols on top of the video that's playing. You will see what looks like a round cog wheel in the top right hand corner. If You tap that little cog/wheel a little screen will pop up + one of the lines will say captions. Tap that and then You should see option tap the English (auto generated) one and You should have captions + I imagine if Your on a PC or laptop just do the same with Your mouse + You should be ok. Hope that helps.That's how I do it on my phone. 😊
I know you said in one of your videos, you were going to put in a CB radio, are they still used? I occasionally listen in on all the various frequencies and hear nothing.
There is some really interesting parking in these situations. Most just stop on the hard shoulder or even slip roads, there’ll be queues and queues of lorries so no one tries to move them.
A speed limiter can be set at whatever speed you want. For HGV/LGV’s like this one it can be anything up to max 90kmh (56ish) in UK & Europe. Some companies set them at 50mph, some 54mph or whatever suits them. Confusingly, the legal speed limit on motorways in UK is still 60mph.
