the spade bit was never intended for unbroke people with heavy hands

Do you agree on pulling your mecate reins off after each use !! Can’t go to bed with your shoes on unless you socialize hard after work 😂

Wouldn't a rope halter and lead line converted to reins give better feel than any form of bit? I trained my horses to be ridden in rope halters. They respond to subtle pressure beautifully.

I have 3yr old mare I started with a bosal I started with ground work flexing backing. I started riding her she now has learned how to brace against the bosal only to the left. What do you recommend. This is my first time and I'll admit using a cheap bosal and I'm pretty sure it's too big. Any input is appreciated thanks

Correct tools and know how to use them. Sounds like you have cheaped out and also instilled some terrible habits.

Where can I find a bosal that would fit a horse with a larger nose. I have a 2 yr. old Haflinger and the standard 5/8" bosal does not fit her; it's way too tight.

How much would a hackmore cost you to send to Brazil? I would like to learn how to work with him and to know his functions, I watch his videos but I do not understand the language in English, if I had been taught in Portuguese I acquired, how can you help me?

I’m just here for the spade bit comments….

If you ride the horse for two years with the hackamore, then why even put in a bit later? Question not a comment.

Excellent question. I imagine the answer is along the lines of tradition. But I find my horses are more fluid with a rope halter and lead line converted to reins. That setup is very versatile.

John Owens with each progression we are seeking refinement. The difference between a hackamore horse and a bridle horse, when done correctly, is amazing. However most people really don't have a need or desire to make a true bridle horse.

The reason is because a hackamore requires pressure to get the horse to do what you ask. The spade bit is a signal to the horse, no pressure and release, balance and signal

@@sonseere10 You say that your horses are more fluid in a rope halter and lead rope converted to reins, but you failed to mention if they are more fluid in that compared to what you THINK they would be in a spade but, to what they normally are in a REGULAR bit, or have you ACTUALLY ridden them in a spade bit and decided they went better in a rope halter? IF you rode them in a spade, ARE they traditionally trained to carry one and ARE you skilled and trained to use one or did you as a typical rider just stick it on your typical horse and try it out? I’m not trying to sound mean. I’m just truly curious.

How can you claim to have ridden in the vaquero tradition and not know how to pronounce 'bosalita'. I've never known anyone who's ever been exposed to a good bridle horse who called it a 'bostilia'.

That’s why he said depends on what country you’re in. Charros sometimes call it a bostilio. Make a youtube vid about it if he’s so wrong

I’d rather know how to do it like he does than know how to pronounce it.
