I almost lost my mind after reading one of the MC Beaton Agatha Raisin books and then checking out a TV episode based on the same title. It was such a disappointment. The tv shows are pretty nice, - not awful- but they realllllllly made me feel like I was kidnapped by a bunch of strangers. :( This same kind of screen writing took place with the Hamish Macbeth series by the same author. It made me want to cry. I guess Granada spoiled me early on with their POIROT series and its commitment to making them authentic to Dame Agatha Christie's writing.
I’ve been listening to the audiobooks, and when I hear a line that’s abrasive or a bit offensive, I always think it’s going to be followed by “thought Agatha,” but no! She says it! Out loud! It’s so bloody funny.
They should have found actress and acteurs more suitables ,at least physycali . Agatha, blond hair? Sara, with jean's?, Tony, Brown hair...ect... Comment se projeter ,sur ces personnages, quand on a lu tout les livres??? Même si ce sont de très bon acteurs, ça match pas.
I discovered Agatha in the audiodramas first, and she was so interesting and fascinating. Then I tried the tv series and it didn't click at all. A young Agatha didn't work to me. Her age is something that makes her interesting. I know it's to catch the younger audience, but I was the young audience at the time and noooo...
I can't get into this because it's not the agatha raisin of the books she's far too young. Plus I adore penny keiths perfect audio comedy version. To me she's agatha and always will be.
I love the series! She keeps you in stitches. The main thing is she's a big mouth at times, an keeps putting her foot in her mouth! I love it when it's time for binge watching. You can always relate to her in her love life also! All around great series!!!
I was introduced to Agatha Raisin through the tv series, so for me Penelope Keith came across as a much more disagreable character, so it took me a while to warm to her. I adore James in the Audio plays. I like James in the tv show too. The tv show is much more light hearted and funny, but it captures the essence of the story. The books show a much more tragic story though. Agatha has been knocked about and through shear determination and intelligence and street smarts she builds her own PR company, but her tough brash and independent personality tragically means she's destined to be alone, it's very sad. I think M C Beaton explains it perfectly why Agatha and James can never be together. I can't wait to see the vacation one televised. Oh and the tv detective is adorable. Many likeable characters. I wish there were more books but sadly there can be no more.
I love Agatha Raisin audiobooks, especially when read by Penelope Keith. Agatha is not a very pleasant person but one comes to liking her because of her vulnerability. She is described looks wise as a bit square, with small bear eyes but excellent legs and beautiful, shiny, dark hair. She pretends to be posh but can stand her ground like every tough girl from council estate who survived her alcoholic parents. What they did in the series with the character is awful. She is incredibly. unlikeable, with hair which looks like straw. Real Agatha appreciated good clothes and was elegant, in the series she is a kitsch peacock. Tony from books is blond, beautiful, smart and vulnerable. Not in the series. Mrs Bloxby has a husband and is motherly, strong and kind. I don’t recognize her in the series and she is single. Charles and Roy - their characters are switched around, for political correctness I guess. I have tried to watch the series a few times but could not pass two episodes so eventually left it. It’s silly, simplistic and shallow and it’s characters are truly unlikeable. I saw MC Beaton talking positively about it but what else could she say? She was probably paid lots of money for it.
I loved the books... but the TV series was disappointing on so many levels. Many the the beloved characters in the books were totally different ... I just didn't get the same enjoyment as I did with the books. Such a shame.
So happy to find someone who read the books and could not get their head around all the characters totally changing, Agatha herself is absolutely nothing like the books Agatha.. I have tried to watch it as a programme that just happens to have the same name, as I do enjoy the stories. Read the books at least twice each.
After listening to Agatha Raisen on audio books, I was sooo disappointed with the screen version. Ajj the characters were so wrong, Charles turned into an idiot, Roy 2as all wrong and Mrs bloody was a completely different character. So sad.
The book and the show have to be taken as two different animals and unrelated. That's the only way you can really enjoy both. I'm certain that had I read the books first I, too, would be disappointed in the show.
Of course it is not the same as the books, most tv series based on books are not the same as written in those books. Refer to Father Brown, Midsummer Murders, Grantchester, Vera and Shetland by Ann Cleaves. Not even true stories of crime and murders are absolute depictions hence warning before they start. Why do people expect everything to be as they imagined. This is a production and adaptation of the books. If you don’t like them tune out, turn off and drop out👍🥴
