Thanks ill try this ,I have always struggled with berimbolo since i began training i feel as i progress more into JJ i need to get this move down without feeling scared of the pressure and just go with the flow 🙂
If you can’t get your back off the mat would you just work on ham strings and lower back strength through deadbugs or is back flexion exercises like Jefferson curls necessary?
For sure those exercises will help, I also like to invert up against a wall (can do it both ways e.g feet to the wall or back to the wall). Then try to slowly get used to the inverted position before pushing it a bit further.
You can instead try going at an angle like a back roll over the shoulder but stop when feet touch.... if that makes sense, it will help you get the motion and loosen up the muscles.
You have to work out what is stopping it. Don't just force it using that position or else you may hurt your upper back or neck even though they are not the issue but rather your hamstring are. If you can work out which part of the posterior chain is causing the limitation then you can stretch that. If you can't even sit up comfortably with your legs out in front of you, for example, could easily be your hams and lower back.
When I throw my legs over my head, I'm naturally resting on the tip of my shoulders. So when I fall to either side, the transition is not smooth. Have you encountered a student with this issue before ? Seems like I lack flexibility in my upper torso.
It takes practice. I usually try to breathe out as I get into an inverted position. But you'll have to work your way slowly by gradually moving your legs over your head , but not too far so that you still can breath
