Great video! I just did the drivers side hub (Moog 515054 Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly ~$130.00) and both sides new rotors and pads ( approx $120.00) for a 2001 2wd Silverado, using your videos. Doing it myself saved a TON of money and only took about 3 1/2 hours taking my sweet time/hunting for sockets. If it helps anyone these are the tools you'll need (hopefully I don't leave anything out). An Air impact and Air ratchet wrench REALLY make this job fast/easy/less bruised knuckles T55 torx socket for the 2 long skinny bolts that hold the caliper in place 18mm socket for the 2 big/short bolts that hold the caliper bracket in place 15mm socket for the 3 medium sized bolts that hold the hub in place. Big channel locks or 6" C - clamp to compress the caliper pistons Couple of sturdy flathead screwdrivers to work the calipers off of the rotors/get pads out. 18" breaker bar to get most of the bolts started moving. The 2 18mm bolts wear a bear to get undone due to the factory thread locker stuff that was on the bolts. ***Edit*** If your hub is corroded/stuck I found this innovative video on how to easily and cheaply break it free: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6npddZVybwo.html My hub popped right out, likely due to little corrosion/rusting in Texas. Other videos showed quite a bit of hitting the hub with a mini sledge to break it free. Reuse the factory dust shield and you are good to go. I reused the clips because the brake kit I ordered from Autozone didn't come with them, so check ahead to get new ones with yours if replacing the brakes too (might as well while you have it all apart since new rotors and pads are so cheap!).

Nice and simple, thanks for the video. Looked all over for how to do it on a 2 WD model - most videos on this show how to do it on a 4 WD and it took me a while to figure out that the 2 WD doesn't have a big center axle nut, it's just the 3 bolts that hold the assembly to the steering knuckle. It's an easy job to do. Took me three hours from start to finish for both sides, but I lost time fiddling with broken little brackets for the ABS sensor wires - had to drill them out before installing the new ones. It should not be at all difficult to do the job in half the time it took me.

For those of you doing an Avalanche with high miles, the assembly is going to be incredibly hard to remove. You should apply heat to 2 sides of the bracket and use a cold chisel between the shield and hub assembly. Alternate between sides and the top and bottom. Luckily the shield metal is soft enough that it collapses back a bit so you can get the chisel started and it's easy enough to reform the shield after you get it off of the hub assembly. Make sure you alternate sides.

If you care that much about torque specs look it up on Google but there's really no need just get the rust cleaned off and tighten it down
@djtrepound2407
@djtrepound2407 7 лет назад
why did you take the caliper apart? you could've just removed two bolts from the mounting assembly and then the other two holding the brake line up top. sit it to the side and removed the rotor

This is very instructional on what to do. But someone should say that most of these Hubs are rusted on and will not just fall off when the bolts are removed.

Don't the new hub come with a new abs sensor if if not why take it out just unplug it
@Jemartines81

Do you think a new hub will make my abs and traction light go away for good? My old mechanic just removed the abs sensor on the driver front tire. Need advice I don’t want to drive around without sensor. I plugged it in to a code reader and it doesn’t throw out any codes for abs or traction control. Ty. Great video.
@paul32269
@paul32269 4 года назад
Be sure to check each front wheel sensor to make sure that they are clean. While you have the wheel off try also checking the sensor from the upper location connection with a odometer to see if the sensor is sending out a signal. From my last test you need to be close to 2.5 millivolts. There is a video on youtube that will explain that better. IF the sensors are bad when doing a code check it will come up as 244 and/or 246 I am not sure which code is for which wheel. I am in the process of replacing my complete hub assembly to not have more problems with the lights on my dash. Go to RockAuto.com for the best prices. I hope this helped.

Daniel Rodriguez Daniel Rodriguez the 4wd looks slightly different and is a bit different to pull off. I have a 4wd and it has a 35mm nut that needs to come off. And may need some hammering depending on how hard it’s on there.

Brake calliper is either Torx 55 or Hex18mm. Caliper mount is Hex 18mm. Could be uselful to add in overlay the torque spec.

You need to add a small comment about using a flat head screw driver to compress the caliper piston. I just struggled for 1 hour trying to slide the caliper off. Looked so easy on your video but it needs more detail.

Hey. My question is very basic. Is it necessary to change the hub assembly if once removed. I am getting some abs codes c0210, c1238. Isn't it enough to just change the abs sensor alone?

@joelkrawczyk2248
@joelkrawczyk2248 6 лет назад
No you remove the caliper then the caliper mounting bracket.
@repoman6034
@repoman6034 2 года назад
No. Simply remove the 2 bolts for caliper mounting bracket (you don't need to remove the T55 torx for the caliper pins) and remove the caliper mounting bracket along with the caliper as one unit. This saves a step. You will still need to compress the caliper pistons with screwdriver or C clamp to allow room to get the caliper and bracket off.

nice video very descriptive but it lacks torque specs. most hubs have to be evenly beaten out. and then wire brush the rust before install.
@2carpros
@2carpros 6 лет назад
Torque specs for every last nut and bolt on a car is really unnecessary. We don't have rust here in the desert so I really can't show removal of something that isn't there. Thanks for watching!
