Thank You for all more than 30 videos for the RAV4, I recently bought a 5 door 1996 Rav4 and some of your videos helped me out fixing some issues from my Toyota. These RAV4`s had a common noise from the rear diferential, that People in my country (Costa Rica) tells me that are two possible causes. 1. the rear Diferential support, and the level of the oil diferential. Maybe you could do one video of that. Thanks again.
The rear differential mounts go bad in the RAV4. The differential has 2 mounts. One of them is in the back and it's easy to reach. The hard to reach one is usually the problem. It's about a foot long and sits across the front of the differential. The rubber bushings inside get soft or broken, and the differential rocks side to side when you put the car in gear, making a loud clunk. I'll make a video soon.
I just bought a first gen RAV4 and your videos are amazing. The window shattered on my driver side door and this was a great tutorial on how to get the panel off. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I hope you know we all appreciate it!
Just what I needed. I bought my 1996 3 door on 2/6/2023 and only one speaker works well 2 don't work 5% and the 4th shreeks So this is what I need. Thanks I will make a video, however it will not be as well narrated, edited, and framed as wells as yours with graphics to boot🤠👍
I've personally never felt a difference between Bluetooth and physical connections. Especially when Bluetooth 4.1 introduced 128 bit audio and seamless auto connection. Im sure there's some audio experts out there foaming at the mouth because I said this but let's he real... besides latency which doesn't matter for music, does a wired connection have a great enough advantage to be noticed by ear compared to modern Bluetooth.
The only reason I can think for how Toyota did the speaker wholes is a) to direct the sound up to the passengers and prevent bleeding sound below passengers B) power window were larger speaker, possibly power window cover had a larger opening in the plastic. Is the sound different with and without the holes covered?
I would recomend putting 4mm pe foam sound deadening in the doors. Maybe even the whole car? Would make an intersting video to see if it really makes much difference in road noise? I did it on some car doors and foud it improved the sound from the speakes. Looking forward to next video redoing the door panels and putting the plastic back :)
I have installed 6x9 in front doors like you on my mk2 (very similar mechanically). They sound great. I added 2 to rear doors and 2 to rear shelf and sub + amp in the back. What I did with speakers, mounted them all on PU glue and let it tried over week time. It is around speaker frame and is quite thick. First use screws to mount speakers in air, then add PU, remove screws after it dries out - recommend hot environment for this, in cold it can take months to dry.
I really like the tweeter placement up high with my new setup, but my stereo is seriously lacking bass. I might add a subwoofer soon. What size sub did you use, and did you make it easily removable to save cargo space?
@@LabCoatPaul I have 12" speaker in box profiled to rear seats and wheel arch. It is 5 door RAV, quite spacious in back. Cables are hidden underneath plastic trim, ground is very short, bolted to chassis there. No quick release, but it takes only few minutes to take it out.
@@LabCoatPaul how did you mount the tweeters? Was this a special mirror trim piece or did you just cut holes in the mirror trim? Curious how this works. Just bought a clean 2 door rav today and want to place an order for speakers asap
I Own the 2003 toyota rav4 (3 doors) i have 6,5 inch speakers in the front and back with tweeters and a sub. I noticed that the sub notes fade out at 40Hz with the doors and windows closed. as soon as i open the door or window slightly that bass starts to come alive very noticeably, is there any way to fix this?
I doubt anything is wrong with it. Stock stereos usually don’t have very much power. If you install a more powerful subwoofer with a new amplifier in the back, it will be much louder. You might be able to fit an 8 inch sub instead of 6 and it will play the lower frequencies.
@@LabCoatPaul Use the covers you send me as a mold to make them in strong fiberglass. Inside the fiberglass, I'll place some detonating paper inside. I'll paint them or wrap them in Carbon fiber paper. :)
How many Miles on ure Rav now days? Another great vid btw FYI the speaker grills in the L version are all drilled through and not fake like in you're model
My RAV4 has 159,000 miles now. It took me 3 years to put 10K miles on it. It was so broken for a while there I had to buy a different car. Thanks for the info about the grilles! That would have saved me some trouble. haha
@@LabCoatPaul Yeah no worries. I sold my 2 door rav4 L (all white in colour) for a mint condition jaguar x-type, I'm looking for a convertible rav4 with the wider wheel base in manual. Only thing is, only about 2 convertables a listed a year for sale in New Zealand :/
Bro you are a fucking GODSENDWTFFFF😂😂i took off my window trim panel & couldnt figure out how to put it back on, didnt know it was a push pin holding it together😂🤦🏻♂️thanks so much man
Hey Paul, I've been watching your videos for about 3 weeks now. You inspired me to work on my 96 rav4 with confidence!! I installed speakers and sound deadener over the weekend, but I want to install tweeters now. At 5:45, can you explain? Are your tweeters sitting outside the mirror trim? They look like they sit in a housing that allows them to be pointed towards you
@@LabCoatPaul Nice! I got JL in the fronts and I was told I should stick with the same brand if im doing tweeters. The JL C1-100ct don't come with an enclosure, but I found someone who sells one aftermarket.
Hey paul, great video! You should put a double din at the bottom compartment! I modified mine and made it look real nice relocating the cubby to the top! I might make a video to explain further!
I think a double DIN radio would look cool, but might be less practical, because it's lower and you have to take your eyes farther off the road to see it. I don't look at my radio while driving anyway - I use the volume knob and that's about it.
@@LabCoatPaul yeah i thought the same thing but honestly updates the interior and playing youtube videos and screen mirroring is super cool, thought id shoot the idea. So whats the next mod on the rav?
Hola me puede decir donde compro la pieza negra de plástico de 4 tornillos que va a la puerta y encaja en el rav4 de 6,5" Para instalar el altavoz gracias
Hi Paul, I'm sorry for my horrible English. Unfortunateli I never really had the chance to learn this language in school. You make a great job with the videos! I'm in the same situation like you... I don't have much money but need a reliable small 4x4 so I can do some work by myself to make the car unique. Will get my 1st gen RAV 2-door next week! 🙂 Found your channel view days ago and love the things you do. Keep on doing this! I like your lift and the tires. You have the "origina" 16 inch whells. Do you think it is possible to run with 15 inch wheels on the RAV? Greetings from Switzerland 😀
Hey Paul, did you not need crossovers for those speakers & tweeters? I've never done a component install, and my 2011 RAV4 has those little tweeters on the doors. Nothing's blown yet but I want to replace them with something new.
These Rockford Fosgate speakers have small crossovers built into the tweeters. They're little capacitors. Higher end component sets will include a separate crossover module.
Hi Paul, my 2000 RAV4 is burning quite a bit of engine oil. I'm not sure why and would like to fix that. I started doing some research and it might be valve stem seals? Could that be it?
How do you know it's burning oil? Do you have blue smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe, and oil on your spark plugs? Or do you have oil leaking on to the exhaust under the engine, making smoke in the engine bay? Leaking valve stem seals can make your car burn oil. How many miles are on your car? Worn piston rings can cause this too, but it's less likely. Take a sample of your oil and send it to blackstone-labs.com It's the easiest way to get some good information about the condition of your engine. Also do a compression test. If your valve stem seals are leaking, the best thing to do is install a remanufactured cylinder head. compression test video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XSt8YF5M2jw.html oil test video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XWLe3qgd-no.html cylinder head video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ksv98JvBqXs.html
@@LabCoatPaul From what i can see its not leaking out on to the floor and no smoke coming from the exhaust or engine bay. I haven't been tracking just how much oil I add, but I am now. I change my oil every 3k, but can't make it to that point without adding oil before then. Ill check my spark plug tips, send in my oil, and check out those video links
@@jaredpearson6068 With engine running, take white paper to exhaust and see if some oil droplets accumulate there. If so, take engine head out and give it shop to remanufacture. But new gaskets and head bolts.
Hey mate great video as always. Hey what size speakers should I get for the 2 door manual shift pillar speakers? Are they 6.5 just like the front? Looking to get 4 new speakers. Cheers mate
hi great videos 😀 but the plastic inside the doors is there for the rain water to be guided to outgoing drain . the window trim is not water proff. now without the plastic the water will go in to the floor/carpet when it rains. best regards an old Toyota mechanic🤣
@@LabCoatPaul gasket maker should work, I would do some samples to find one that will grab both the plastic and the panel material the strongest to not give out;letting the water in if there is a large amount collected
@@LabCoatPaul: 30+ years in the shop you pick up a few tricks :) it was probably the plastic washer which you have to get the rag between it and the crank handle.
