FROZEN Overnight Wall TENTS

Going out in the brutal cold and working hard is very fulfilling. I have a new campsite that's dilapidated and mice have had their way for too long. Now I'm moving in and I need to get it all cleaned up before I put my new Russian Bear tent on the platform. But before I do all that, I spend a beautiful evening at my main campsite and enjoy a mouth-watering meal cooked over an open fire. Join me as I take a big breath of frozen air and challenge myself in deadly cold conditions.
Here are all of my tiny cabin hot tent videos: ru-vid.com?list...
Follow me on Instagram: / ajayinthewoods
How much experience do I have?
That depends. I am pretty good at starting a fire these days and gathering wood. But I don't really have true bushcraft skills and definitely no carpentry or construction skills or training. I could probably make a shelter if I had to, but that would just come from all the RU-vid training (watching) over the years.

I love your videos. For the last two years, I have been suffering from spine pain. Recently, I had a reconstruction, and I do mean reconstruction of my entire spine. I had to meet and interview surgeons. The simple way of life you have the strength and love to do is beautiful. I love it. I used to engage in less intense winter camping in VT but no longer can do it. It is wonderful to watch you enjoy the trips so much. And the food! OY Vey

Yea peppermint oil is your friend here. It is an amazing deterrent for any new residents coming in. Those already there if any usually will need to be trapped. Its usually not enough to make them leave there home but they definitely wont go explore somewhere new with that scent. I find this works great and lasts longer then drizzling it around. Get a half dozen or so small plastic bottles (pill bottle size). Drill a couple small 1/8" ish holes in the lids. Fill loosely with cotton balls or something similar. 15-30 drops peppermint oil in each bottle. Cap them and disperse them. I'm guessing 3-4 per tent will do. Then top up when you notice they need it should be couple months. Lastly if you get a decent size bottle 120ml + the cost will drastically go down. Vids are always a treat. Thanks Jay!

Now that's a great supper, Jay, I use either boneless pork loin chops or chopped pork steaks and add cream of mushroom soup. Simmer until tender, mash taters with gravy, comfort food dude!! Your meal looks mighty tasty too and your cc mini loaves turned out perfectly golden brown, I've always been told to set the temperature on the oven 25* lower than the directions say, always works for me, you learn something new everyday of your life, you're doing great

I don’t get why people feel the need to critique RU-vidrs for the way they do things or think they know everything about everything. You are obviously passionate about bushcrafting and like to share that passion with your fans. Who cares how you sharpen your chainsaw blade, it cut through the wood didn’t it? Someone felt the need to tell you how to cut trees down, that you were doing it wrong. The tree came down didn’t it? Someone told you that you should have wood ready for you when you get there and not to cut it when you get there. You always have/get a nice warm fire going don’t you? People should just enjoy you enjoying yourself out there. It takes a lot of work to film everything and then edit it and upload it. It just grinds my gears when people nit pick over trivial things that don’t matter. I enjoy watching you be so happy when you’re there, doing something that you’re obviously passionate about. So keep doing your thing Jay, and disregard the ‘experts’. 👍🏻❄️ Edit ~> those oatmeal chocolate chip loaves looked divine!!

Welp.... I have to watch it again... What I really like about your videos is, well, here is an example. When you first get in your tent and you are starting up the stove and you're explaining how you didn't have things ready etc, it's like I'm right there in the tent and we're having a chat over that subject. You have this great way of pulling me right there in the tent at that moment. It's really a gift!! The music you chose is absolutely perfect! The peacefulness of the music sooooooo fits with the scenery and sets the whole ambience of your videos. I don't live in northern Minnesota and NW Wisconsin anymore. I live in southern Missouri in the Ozarks, which I love. The older I got the less I enjoyed the cold. But I do reminisce about when I lived there and was in the -20 and -30 F temps. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, hockey, trapping etc. I drive a truck locally and days can get pretty stressful at times. Your videos are a peaceful and enjoyable way to wind down after work in the evenings. I'm glad I "stumbled" across your channel.. Thanks, Jay!! You bring back many great memories. Blessings, Bridge

Finally! I told somebody that sawdust is always generated, but I don't see anyone retaining it for fires as it should be great kindling, and he said I was wrong. He gave some kind of explanation that made no sense. I didn't want to argue. I know that fire logs are often made from compressed sawdust. It's light, and has lots of space for combustion. Thank you for your vindication and common sense. I wish I could remember who it was and send him this video. But it's not worth the time of research.

You should always have a small tool pouch with you with common handyman tools. Might need to fix snowmobile in the middle of nowhere or minor repairs at the tent. Pliers, screwdrivers, wire, electrical tape, adjustable wrench etc. From Toronto Eh.

I have a 60 volt 16 inch Dewalt. We had to clear a 24 inch oak from a trail with it, making 3 cuts + other things we had to cut (branches, brush and small trees that had been brought down when the oak fell, etc.). I wasn't sure it was up to the task, but a friend of mine did it on one battery with power to spare. That is more than I ever expected from the saw . . . I think I'll keep it. Battery powered outdoor equipment has come a long way in the last 10 years. If you had told me as a kid that we would have all of these battery powered tools that work great, I would have told you to go have your head examined.

Another awesome adventure. Great idea bringing your solar power bank, they really come in handy. I have 2 × 500 watt power banks..Jackery 500 and Energizer Arc5 with 2 solar panels. Never out of juice. I have the Russian Bear UP2 hot tent with insulated footprint. I also added the 3×2 vestibule ( 9 feet long ×6 feet wide with stove jack..great for storing wood, gear, ever put your skidoo or ATV to keep them out of the winter elements. If your worried about wildlife around your tent, bring a fire arm, Bear spray and air horn. Your best bet is not to cook in the tent,I never do and never had any issues with wildlife for over 40 years in Northern Ontario. Thanks for the share 👊 💥 Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 🤶 Seasons Greetings 🎊🎉🍻🇨🇦

Jay, on your fire ring when you're trying to get it going, pay attention to which way the wind is blowing the smoke. Lift the side of the ring opposite that direction and put a 2" or so stub of branch under it to hold it up. That will catch the wind and accelerate the fire!! Just my two cents. 🍻🔥🔥🔥

Jay, I remember you saying you didn't like holding a piece of wood when chopping it for fear of hurting yourself...so I have a helpful hint for you just in time for Christmas! I saw another outdoorsman use a smaller piece of wood he had already chopped when making kindling to steady the log he was working on. That kept his hand well away from the axe! If you try it, and it works for you, let us see you using this method in future videos! MERRY CHRISTMAS from the US!

I wouldn't worry so much about the wolves! A few years ago I went outside for my morning ciggie, and noticed that my cat was staring at something behind me. I looked around and saw nothing. But, when I looked the second time I saw 2 wolfs that had just brought down a deer! I walked right out in the middle of wild nature. But, when the wolfs saw me they ran away. I grabbed my cat and put him back inside. I felt really bad. If I would have gone out a few minutes sooner that deer might have had a different outcome. And my presence scared the wolfs away from their fresh meal. I felt so bad! That experience made me unafraid of wolfs. NO...I would not pet one! But, they fear you just as much as you fear them! They are a good omen!

You should save that sawdust for that little port-a-potty you use, so you can cover up your excrements. It keeps it from smelling while you have it in your tent. Whenever you go to saw some more wood, just lay a tarp down underneath it so it will be easy to collect and placed somewhere dry. BTW, did you cover your propane tank with snow again this year so won't freeze? I want to get a couple of those jackeries as well. They are so handy!!

Harry, from my personal experience with 2 wolves I learned that they were more afraid of me then I was of them! And I'm a tiny person! 5'2" 90lbs. So, I am little compared to these wolves! I walked out in the middle of 2 wolves who had JUST brought down a fresh kill deer. Right in my backyard! My backyard is at the base of a mountain. The wolves saw me and ran! They abandoned their kill when they saw me! I felt so bad! But, it goes to show you that wolves should not be feared. They are more afraid of humans then we are of them! All I did was stand up and the wolves ran away! Now I dunno about wolverines. But, people should not be so afraid of wolves! Just don't have any raw meats at your campsite! I love wolves very much! They are magnificent! Wolves rarely attack humans. Same with sharks. Sharks rarely attack humans on purpose! Wildlife is wonderful!
