Really nice, NJ! Great review! 😊 I'm thinking about getting one for my father when he starts with quads. But that can wait, I only build a micro yet. LOL
Its 100% going to be part of my compact travel set up, I went into this review with a pretty negative mindset from what others had said and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I think its great.
from what ive gathered, its a very comparable range to the TBS micro set up, though it will be interesting to see how it does, and what the latency improvement is like if any over standard SBUS. Could be a real contender if so, at the much lower price.
Thanks mate, I really can't wait - for me its about portability - the Taranis X9d is just too fragile to easily transport without worry of damaging it, so hopefully this little thing will get me Whooping all over the place when abroad :)
Can you make a video on how to map the wheels on top to adjust volume and other things like you mentioned you use them for? I dont want to run through messing with the x lite messing any settings up hahaha
You're reviews always seem more thorough and unbiased and honest than most. Looks a nice little tx. Only just got a qx7 but will be interested in seeing where they go with the x-lite. Did you say stickers are available. Where do I apply.
Ah thanks Chris. At the end of the day i consider you all my pals, and i want you to have as great a time in this hobby as i do! Nothing else comes above that :) Drop me a PM with your address ill post you some stickers np
You forgott to mention, that we have to use "unprotected" Li-Ion Cells. Protected Cells are 2 mm longer and the room in the X-Lite ist to short for it. Really bad, because protected cells are much more safe.
i think protected cells are completely unnecessary on this because the current draw is absolutely tiny! On a vape or something with higher draw then yes, but for this absolutely nothing to worry about. If you can find me one instance from anyone, anywhere with an Xlite that had cell death from that, id be very very surprised.. but you wont ;) There are thousands of lipos running in transmitters around the world, either lipo/life/nimh/li-ion and non have that feature for the same reason.
I had a flysky fs-i6s first and thought that was good. Then I got a qx7 and was quite surprised how quality it felt. I will be getting the x-lite next.
I recently got this as a pincher coming from x9d. I saw the same reviews you did and at first wrote it off. Had a buddy who owned one, asked if he could let me hold it for a bit. Gotta say, I love it! I bought it from my buddy pretty much brand new (used two times) for 80 bucks with charger and batteries! Can’t beat that.
It's a really beautiful radio honestly, i'm very impressed by the design and the quality :) I'm just worrying about the batteries life! With my X9D+ modded with a 3S LIPO, i'm flying straight more than one month without needing a recharge! I might grab one if i destroy my X9D+ on the road but honestly i'm afraid if that's happened, i will probably simply buy another X9D+ lol Thanks again for the great review handsome! Love your mat by the way ;) Have a great weekend and happy flying!
ABMNS PRODUCTION hey Bro, well I haven't been through a discharge cycle but so far it's lasting really well. You better not try one out becuase I think you'll buy it 😋 have a great weekend too
Haha, "pinch of salt"... :') I pinch my x lite in exactly the same way and I'm loving it. I don't miss the neck strap at all either. I'm using this adapter for my Crossfire: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2975434
lol i never even realised i had said that! Yes i was looking at all the thingyverse stuff for the xlite. I quite like the printable kit for installing it internally too, very cool. Have you seen over on horusrc.com the stuff they do? Pretty cool 4in1 module for other protocols like the T8SG jumper does and some proper alu stick extensions. Ill be ordering some when they come back into stock :)
You mean this one? www.thingiverse.com/thing:2997491 It seemed just a little too hardcore for me, as it swaps out the internal RF module, meaning you can only run crossfire on it.
I agree with your points, but for me the biggest advantage of the gigantic Taranis is the neck strap. Being able to have zero weight in your hands and letting them rest to the sides of the transmitter makes me feel like I have better control. I know the X-lite is lighter, and I haven't tried it yet, but that was my experience trying the Turnigy Evolution at least. For freestyle and general flying I don't mind thumbing or pinching without a neck strap, and it saves a ton of room in your flight bag, but even after many hours of practice I couldn't match my normal lap times. I still would recommend the X-lite to new pilots though, because I know my reasons are really nitpicky and this is just what I've learned on. This is a great piece of kit at a great price. Meanwhile, I just ordered some M9 gimbals for the Taranis earlier this week. ;)
Yea normally I prefer a neck strap but this doesn't bother me on the xlite. That being said I'm not a racer and I'm sure every tiny detail that can help you matters so I totally understand your point. Thanks for the comment brother :)
Great review, very thorough. I like the x-lite, the only trouble I have had is that the screw that you use to slacken off the spring on the throttle was cross threaded from the factory. I had to open it up and disable the spring the old way! Other than that a great little controller! Also could I have some NJTech stickers please? 😁🤘
Great review! I also agree that it can work fine for pinching and people shouldn't discount that option. I wish there was one of your terrific flights at the end with the X-Lite;)
I was literally thinking about this radio and pinching like minutes before your upload! I was looking at this when it first surfaced, I wanted something compact, sick of lumping bigger radios about.
NJ Tech that's good to hear, I want to down scale my back pack too, started flying sub 250gm stuff, just want a compact setup that's easy to run with 😉
i am a pincher and was literally forced to buy this, since i cannot use x7 or x9 with my small-middle hads. as for adaptation - it was quick, and I can use full range of the stiks' travel, unlike tray style radios. but inwouldnt buy this if had bigger hands tho - too much design flaws. the stick ends are crap, going to make metal inserts for x9SE style sharp stick ends and screw them on.
Thank you for the quick reply. I don't have 18500 cells but I do have a few good 18650s lying around. My X-Lite is on it's way. I may try the 3D printed extensions.
I'm a pincher, but started as a thumber. I decided to get the X-Lite thanks to your video and it should arrive next week. Can't wait to try it and hope that I don't have to switch back to thumbs :D I'm thinking about 3D printing a screw adapter to use the lotus stick heads that I use and love on the X7. Thanks again for the great review and for convincing me to get it! I really need something less cumbersome than the X7 for traveling.
i hope you love it! Just make sure to give it a decent adjustment period and to order the longer stick ends, that really makes it perfect for me. Also the stick ends can be adjust a little bit but the size of the wrench needed is strange, i found a T6 torques worked for me. Hope that helps.
It arrived only a couple of hours after the comment :D Now I'm getting used to it using the simulator (Lift-off). I already adjusted the stick ends and it's already better. I also ordered the longer ones with the strap kit. Hopefully that would make it even better. Thanks again for suggestions and your great videos.
I've ordered the new stick ends but for me, as a pincher, the perfect solution has been to 3D print a small M2.5-M4 screw adapter (found on Thingiverse) and use my loved Grand Lotus stick ends that I've been using with the Q7. Add the strap kit and now it is just perfect!
if only it was multi protocol. I went for the jumper v2 and its just as small as works just fine for pinchers even tho others say its not good for that.
I am looking to get my first radio. I bought a qx7, it's still shipping but I am starting to wonder if I should of gone with the X-lite. What do you think? @njtech.
The QX7 is a great starter radio so dont worry about your choice too much, see how it feels and how you get on with it first. If you particularly like the feel of and Xbox controller then maybe the X-lite is more for you but either of the two radios are a great place to start so dont worry! :)
Here's a question for ya::: At this point with the longer gimbals they released etc etc, do you feel like the x lite is now a hybrid radio for both thumbers and pinchers? So that the "value" of the x-lite is better due to it's form factor size ?
sounds like you are talking yourself into it ;) i recognise these kind of questions lol. yea it can accommodate both. Best to get your hands on one and see how you feel about it.
Haha! Yeah, the more I think about it I just love the smaller compact size and if it can thumb and pinch and I learn both I suppose and decide which I am but yeah I am thinking now if I can get my hands on one locally and try it and maybe just buy it and then between the qx7 and x-lite, whichever I like the least, sell it.
Hey Jason, i actually had it apart tonight and multimetered it. It's a closed circuit, pull one it all dies. Does look easily hackable for external power though so that's good.
it def runs on two 18650s. Unless you mean, it will still power via one? I've been talking with the designer and I'll have some more info for everyone soon. ill find out about that though ;)
NJ Tech couple days ago did precisely as you were describing those things are demonicly hard to contain did loose one Nice video China US tariff just hit bummer man 25 percent I realize politics don't belong here normally but now we are affected by this madness where we live
NJ Tech www.horusrc.com/en/frsky-taranis-x-lite-gimbal-stick-ends.html I manage to get a set a few weeks ago. The tall one is 18mm. The short one is 10mm and are really great for thumbers. The ones that ship with the X-Lite are about 12.2mm.
good vibes Yeah - I think they should just pack them into all new setups then there just wouldn’t be any more ‘x-lite is not for pinchers’ crap out there. Also helps to fix those that think it’s too twitchy.
