Josh, i've been pinching for over 20 years, i could not find this more comfortable to hold or fly with. I have installed the longer stick ends that are now available which definitely a help, but to say 100% for thumbers is just not fair to say! Since making my video on this exact topic, many have come forward (pinchers) also in accord with my feeling on this. Granted it wont work for some like yourself, but it really shouldn't be discounted like this as 100%! In with the long stick kit also comes a neck strap brace which also works great :)

I pinch but not with my index fingertip, this is by far the most comfortable radio I've used so far.

@@defyent After one month of use, count me as comfortable pincher on the X-Lite. I initially planned to use it with small models, I ended up shelving my X9 forever.

@@mikeoleksa update: I'm loving the X.Lite after one year (I fly mostly slope soaring gliders - don'think it's less demanding than quads, they are FAST). So sad Frsky screwed up with the ACCESS BS, otherwise I would have upgraded to the S or Pro version because the two buttons in the back are very handy for launch mode on DLGs. For indoor whoops I have the arm switch on the three position switch on the left, armed when it's in the middle position, so it will disarm whichever way you flip it. Down trim from the D-pad used as prearm, left for beeper and right for turtle mode. I 3D printed custom sticks which are 10mm taller than the stock ones and optimized for pinching. Meanwhile, I sold the X9.

I agree with Nj tech. Works great for pinchers. We're used to velociraptoring around switches and rotating thumb sockets. Something to note is the gimbal screws do not relieve spring tension. They increase friction beyond what the spring can handle. This results in a notchy center stick and slight spring back at minimum and maximum stick deflection. Open it up and pull the spring then set tension. Another note is the yaw and roll friction points cannot be adjusted. Throttle and pitch can be tight as a drum but yaw and roll will always be loosy goosy. This is less noticeable on the x-lite due to the reduced stick travel as compared to the taranis.

Joshua's VIDEO @ 09:55 -- THE GRUB SCREWS: BE CAREFUL WITH THOSE THINGS! Beware of turning them TOO far into their threads, to where they literally run out of screw thread (soft, plastic = bad idea) where they CAN and WILL cruelly DROP INTO THE BLACK LAGOON aka "the inside of the transmitter". Despite seeing warnings about this crime I still managed to do it. I thus needed to open up the transmitter, and trust me, you do not want to go there. Yes, it can be done, but there are numerous opportunities therein to break fragile plastic things and worse. Unfortunately I visited those horrible opportunities, and not in a good and triumphal way. It required years and years of electroshock therapy with an elite team of Manhattan & Beverly Hills shrinks and psychopaths to help me through the ordeal. Even THE KARDASHIANS felt my pain!!! As idiotic as my story sounds, it indeed became the ONLY difficult thing I ran into with the X-Lite. It's a terrific radio.

I grabbed this radio when it was a pre order, so I basically bought it before any reviews had even come out. I was not disappointed! It was a little different than what I was used to, but I love it. Great size, build quality, and what are limitations to others are benefits for me, having smaller hands.

When I started flying, I used to be a thumber, because every time when I tried to pinch I was like "fuck, that feels uncomfortable". Then I forced myself to pinch anyways for a few days, just to see if it would make any difference once I got used to it. And suddenly my skills improved dramatically in a very short time! When I tried to go back to thumbing, it now felt really imprecise to me and I could not do it anymore. If there was like a clip-on pen that you could attach to your thumb and you tried to write calligraphy with it, you would quickly understand how and why the combination of the joints, muscles and tendons in just one finger just does not allow for as much precision as when you stabilize it with a second finger. Now, I've only been flying for a year and I'm still far from being a great pilot, but I see many new pilots struggle with freestyle tricks and throttle management and when I ask them, if they ever tried pinching instead of thumbing, most of them say "no, that feels too uncomfortable". So in my humble opinion, all those new radios coming out that cater exclusively to thumbers, are really just teaching new pilots kind of a bad habit. I'm not saying that thumbing is bad per se, but when a radio kind of encourages you to never ever try pinching by making it ergonomically virtually impossible, that's bad. I wish someone would design a radio ergonomically ideal only to pinchers. A radio that gently but firmly forces you to pinch. A radio where a thumber would go "fuck, that feels uncomfortable". :) I bet that would make many new pilots' learning curve a lot steeper... Feel free to change my mind if you disagree. :)

The mp4 file problem, repair broke file or recover from card? I found this worked on a file I had to recover from a card recorded with a Xiaomi Yi: grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5 The demo allows you to test the file, giving you the first 50% of the recovered footage for free, if it works.

I'm into drones for 2yrs now since I retired. I'm 71 in a few months. I have two MJX Bugs models. A Hubsan and a Bebop2. I love FPV with a few brushed whoops I own. Eachine 011, Boldclash B-03. I'm wanting a TX for the whoops. I want to be able to fly around the house inside and out. Through windows, open doors, over the roof, etc. What should I buy? I know nothing about protocalls but love putting on the goggles and doing my best. What TX plus gear would you suggest? Any and all help appreciated. Thanks.

I have to say this review is unique, can’t say I have seen one like this before...but so also unique is this TX. Which I want so very badly but the wife bought me a new X9D+ so I would be murdered if I bought another TX... Wives...what are you gunna do, gotta have a happy wife for a happy life, you know? I blame FrSky for my problems, it’s all their fault for making their radios so damn good...just saying.

I have to say that I love my x-lite and I use a hybrid pinch. Sure I don’t hold it like my PS4 controller, but I find that I’m super happy with mine. Haven’t flown with my x9d+ since switching over.

Hey Joshua. If you've actually got some mp4 files to recover, I used this a couple of times to recover gopro footage that wouldn't playback. Worked quite well. It's free too. www.videohelp.com/software/recover-mp4-to-h264 It needs a "good" working file as a reference file for header info, then your "bad" file, and a bit command line wizardry later, it spits out the repaired file.

This radio seems to be really good but there should be available (for purchase) longer battery compartment ends for using the 18650s. I saw some 3D print models on thingiverse but they should be made from electric conductive material.

I find this radio far easier to pinch than a Taranis. Normally thumber but the shorter throw higher sensitivity had me dialing my rates back a good 10-20% Pinching helps, now i'm undecided but I have the hands of a wee mouse unlike most. The only complaint I have about this radio is the texture on the end of the sticks, It's just not grippy enough.

I was just going to run out and buy this from a DX6 and umm more cons than pros thanks again to JB and his detailed thought out ,logical reviews. This a significant purchase and change if you have a few quads. After watching, I think I would of been slightly pissed about the battery situation mainly. If you have been in the hobby a little while , you know to do your homework as much as you can and not make impulse buys lol ....try to

I fly thumbs with the qx7, but have started TRYING to learn hybrid pinching. Any benefits to using pinch over thumbs? I get there is a precision aspect about pinching, but as a long time gamer, could I or others have just as good if not better precision thumbing, or is it really that big of a difference for the average fpv’er

Why the fuck wouldn’t they make a trigger switch, a clicky one!! Just copy a damn Xbox controller and make the rt, lt,rb,lb buttons a deep click so as to mitigate accidentally bumping it and engaging whatever you have it set as

thumber for nearly 40 years now. I love this radio. Buttttt .. my centres got a fair amount of of calibration somehow despite being hall effect gimbals. That messed with my arming in iNav this week. fixed with recalibration and sub trimming, though it took some time to find the source of the arming fault.

I run primarily FlySky kit because of the cost of buying a new transmitter and receivers - but this does look super nice, and pinching never really worked out for me. I noticed that the voice sounded awful quiet - would you say it's noticeably quieter than your tyranis?

JB, probably someone else has spotted this but the batteries are actually 18500s and it's important that people buy ones with a flat top (aka no nipple). Don't buy the ones with nipples and try to search for "sand nipple off lion" like I did.

What holds me back is the fact that there isn't an R9M-lite module with full power (1W) for thr X-Lite. Maybe the next revision will have 18650, USB-C and an updated Lite module!

Dont ever buy software that repairs/recovers mp4‘s or anything besides .flv it simply is impossible because of the way the mp4 (and other codecs) work

Must be a batch 2 or higher xlite. Batch one xlites had only 4 screw holes. I notice there's 6 screw holes on the back (4 gimbal adjust, 2 to secure the back plate).

I am considering to upgrade the Turnigy evo with this radio, as many suggest FrSky is the better option.. I am sure this radio is of higher quality and all but to me those gimbals look quite smaller (not just the stick but the base circle) than those of the Turnigy or the other bigger Taranis radios, it feels like there is less room for error and higher level of precision is required. Is this true or just my own impression?

Crossfire users: If you are looking to use Crossfire on this radio but are not fond of any of the 3D-printed adapters currently available, I have posted some images (imgur.com/a/hnJIRPD ) of how I mounted it. Nothing super fancy, but it works great and is easy to detach for storage. I assume this method would also work for the JR Crossfire module, but might be a bit bulkier. Thanks Joshua for the review.
