I love the evolution but i find its hard to find bnf quads with flysky recivers installed but almost all have frsky. i think this has to be my next purchace 👍👍

You can adjust the stick ends. There is a 1.3 hex grub screw in the stick ends and you can add an extra 5mm to the stock stick height. Great radio. Love mine already.

ArchmageAU glad someone pointed that out as obviously he me missed it b4 doing the video, it has enough adjustment to make a big difference to the way it feels, especially coming from a radio with longer throw

Sorry I had to bail from your Patreon Stew. I’ve been avoiding FPV on RU-vid recently because of my financial circumstances and clear lack of self control when it comes to buying for this hobby. Every gadget on this guys reviews seems to be superb. His euphoric act convinced guys like you and me to buy things we don't need and are not so good after all. This is the way this dude earn his living, his reviews are like commercials. You have nothing to apologise to him for! Of course, one can learn a lot from those reviews, too.

Lol I can't even link this x lite with emax tinyhawk 2. About to give up on fpv. Spent 800 dollars and it's still a pain in the ass to fly for 20 seconds

Would be a perfect gamepad for sims and other games. Considering in the next opentx release we will have the full 11 bit resolution instead of 8 bit that i got merged into opentx :)

Glad you reviewed this, been dying for you to do that. I too loved the feel the evolution (though I did wonder why you stopped flying it), but never got one, when this one came out I would have had one except they sold out in seconds and didnt become available again until recently. But there is one thing i'd love to know, purely based on the feel of the radio (the gimbals and palm of the hand), which feels better? Evolution or X-lite? (ignoring receivers/opentx/signal strength issues)

Got mine the day local dealer had it in stock. Since the day it got out of the box, my trusty Q X7 has been sitting in a box on backup duty. As an avid console gamer, it makes me feel right at home.

I'm a pincher and find I have trouble reaching the sticks all the way to top/middle. Might give this a go. Been looking for an excuse to change over to FrSky anyway.

Nameless Droner don’t feel bad - I bought an x9d se back in November, and crossfire a few months ago. I bought this mainly for smaller models - though depending on testing the r9m lite, it may replace the x9d and crossfire together.

does it show any battery status? Does it have any alarms like voltage or low battery alarm? Last question, are there any fpv goggles that show battery status?

In re the batteries: You can buy aftermarket battery caps that allow 18650s to fit.

The Taranis is a clone of the old JR radio...All this is , is the same old 20 year old crappy hardware in a new box. Just like the Qx7 and X10S..

SKIDOOSH Actually thats not true, only the exterior case was cloned. The electronics are designed by FrSky. Theres a reason these radios are preferred by top drone pilots and that is the ACCST protocol, it's rock solid. One example, Chad Nowak (FinalGlideAUS) used to fly with a $1500 Specktrum DX18, now he flys FrSky....

Designed by Frsky 10 years ago...the processor drops every 5th frame which makes the latency around 34ms...which at 100kph is about 1.5 meters. Which is why most top pilots use crossfire or Futaba. Chad won't use crossfire because he and Trappy don't see eye to eye.... AND I never said it wasn't a solid link and a great bargain/beginner radio..it is. Just pointing out it is not some new super tech!! it is the same old thing in a new shiny box.

ChrisFPV yes. You have to add an SD Card and load all the voices but it works just like a standard.

I actually hated this tx, the gimbal throws were just weird and the palm swells were too much. IMHO the Evo felt perfect, but the RX's were trash. Sticking with my QX7

horusrc dot com has long and short gimbal stick ends for it. Having 4 Panasonic 18500s makes it perfect ..... so easy to swap out the batteries! I'm just learning and using it for Velocidrone training.

i guess i really should give this one a try... atm i fly with a FlySky FSi6 :D and i made the sticks as short as possible... it just feels better for me... i even would fly with a PS3 controller if i could XD so i'd say i'm totally a thumber :D

I struggled with my decision between this and the QX7. I almost bought it but decided to go with the QX7. I also ordered the Irangex module for it a well as I have a flysky FSi6x and a bunch of quads with flysky receivers. I also bought some FRSKY receivers as well. I hope I don't regret my decision. I just didn't like the fact the throw is so short on the X lite. If the nirvana radio wasn't so much money I would have waited for that one. Again hope I didn't make the wrong choice but the QX7 was so cheap this week on gearbest I couldn't pass it up

I am lucky, I've had mine since they were released (reserved mine the day reservations were announced). I came from the Evolution,(Ihad a QX7 but was to big for my hands so I sold it) I bought the X-Lite and 4 XM+ so I could swap out all my RX's. I think this is an awesome controller, it feels great, its a easy to set up once you understand OpenTX. If I broke it or lost it I would but it again right away. Thanks to DroneRacer101 his tutorials helped me get mine setup, but there will be those who are going to hate on this, but its a great radio, they have crossfire working on it without any modifications needed to the controller, people are selling 3D printed adapters to hold crossfire to the controllers existing slots.

I’m just starting out so I think this controller will be good for me as it’s similar to Xbox etc. as for the other gear I have no idea. I see you have heaps of budget drones but do you have videos for someone who is just starting and needs a full kit? I’m looking at spending $1000aud which I hope will get me something reasonable. Hey Stew, do you know if the radio has a bluetooth training mode like the qx7s? Or can it use a training cable? This would be the perfect radio for me to teach my 6yr old to fly with. TIA

To clarify, you can adjust the stiffness/spring strength with the screw in the back. Its not as crazy as the adjustments found on something like the X9D, but its enough for most pilots. Such a well crafted piece of equipment. Stu said it best when he said that radios should’ve been made like this a long time ago.

Goodness me, this radio is fantastic. I've always been a thumber and have tried unsuccessfully to switch many times, but this time I think it's going to work out. The X-Lite is just so useless when I try to thumb it (natural thumb motion doesn't coincide with the axes of the sticks), but it's the first radio that really feels at home in my hands when I pinch the sticks. One thing nobody mentions: the sticks are actually ballraced.

This would be descent for micros I guess but I like the extra switches, gimbals with more travel and especially crossfire. I tried the frsky short throw throttle and don't really like it so I doubt I'd like these

Stu - check this out with the new longer stick ends from horusrc. Makes it not just passable for pinching, but arguably as good as my x9d se gimbals and stick ends.

I wish good 18500 batteries were easier to obtain, but I will probably be getting one to replace my turnigy 9XR which has seen better days. Shame that my modules will be useless on the x-lite though.

Looks like FrSky already did some updates on the X-lite. The one I received last week has 6 holes on the back cover. The back cover looks like it is held on with screws now, rather than just being snapped on only. Also, long tougher set screws/grub screws are used to make mode and tension adjustments on mine; rather than slim Philip head screw that might break off as show on many reviews. The thumb sticks do have a good range of height adjustment; loosen a tiny set screw at the center of the stick and re-tighten after adjustment.

Great review. I thought it was only mine but I had to add some deadband on mid rudder. Very sensitive. Every time I punched out I kept yawing on mode 2. It was almost impossible to throttle up and down without moving the yaw.

Love video looks like a great radio I fly with Spectrum I would have to change everything I've got over to frsky so I probably won't be getting one but hey it didn't look nice I wish I would come out one for spectrum like that but yeah it's for the money it's excellent all is always great video you guys are always having a lot of fun wish I could get to Australia to be with desk phone as you guys keep making these great videos keep flying

no you do not need a seperate module. the tinyhawks all come stock with frsky receivers so you'll be fine

Just got mine and im pissed after waiting 3 months the pin in the mod bay is missing so now i have to return it and wait again for them to come in so far im not happy with it lol
