I would appreciate is Tesla enabled some sort of driveway mapping. If I could define my parking area and have it reverse in that would be great. Especially since FSD currently can't reverse.
Well, John. I was installing 12.5.4 while I was watching your video. After the update got done, I went out and tried to navigate to my house but coming in from the left side. I was all excited when it turned on the left blinker, then thought we are coming in a little hot, when it went past my driveway and pulled right into my neighbors driveway. So it did finally go into a driveway, just not the right one. I tried it again, and it started to pull into mine, but the steering wheel was very jerky and it was trying to decide if this was right or not. It finally stopped half in the drive and half in the road with incoming traffic. I had to put it in drive and finish pulling in. (Pro tip. Turn off pin-to-drive when doing this or using smart summons) speaking of smart summons. I tried it tonight. It to turned off while crossing the main entrance of the store. Luckily, I was in the car and was able to pull away after I had to enter the pin to drive. Hence the pro tip. Ass still moves a little slow. It wasn't too bad when it would go 6mph, but it did a lot of 4mph and very indecisive moves. The tentacle was going all over the place. It was dark out I'll have to try it during the day time
There probably is just not enough training clips that document people parking in their driveway. You would need millions of clips with at least some overlap in driveway configurations to get it to understand. Evidently right now they have more clips coming from the left than the right. Great reveal!
I have never tried coming from the left. I always come into my subdivision from the right. I would have to go out of my way to come from the left, but it's worth a try
I've gotten FSD 12.5.2 in my HW4 Model Y to park in my driveway, from the left, by putting the turn signal on. No luck from the right (with and without turn signal). My HW3 Model S will not do it regardless of direction or turn signal. Looking forward to 12.5.4 and if it will turn into my driveway!
I bet the training set has data from someone with a similar driveway that always parks coming into the driveway turning left. It’s likely a side effect of the training data and not by design which would explain why it only works in turning left and into specific driveway. To make it work for more driveways and turning right into the driveway, Tesla will need to add more examples of people going into driveway from different directions and into different driveways. This is likely a low priority as their #1 priority is Robotaxi which keeps to stop by the curb and their focus is 200% on avoiding safety intervention so they’ll be able to launch robotaxi (even with safety drivers) sooner rather than later.
My road used to be 2 lanes North and 2 lanes South with a double yellow line in the middle, 12.3.6 used to turn into my driveway from either side. Recently the road was changed to one lane North and one lane South separated by a middle turn lane. Also, bike lanes were added on both sides, i.e. now there is a solid white line in front of my driveway that the car won't cross.
I don’t have a driveway in front of my house and I want the car to always approach so the house is on the right so it can park in front on the street. I wonder if someday we’ll be able to specify situations like that. I also wonder in your situation if there were a car parked at the curb right before that driveway, making the Tesla be more in the middle of the street, if it would then be willing to make that right turn into the driveway since it’s a wider turn?
i wonder will it now able to park into your own garage without the parking slot drawn/marked? since with newer version available after auto park was introduced few months back
So the houses are close in my neighborhood and I'm on 12.4 but even on 12.3 it tries to do this for me. Only problem is it always tries to pull into my neighbors driveway. The only way to come at my place does put the driveway on the left.
What if, when you're approaching from the right, there was a car parked on the right side of the road just before the driveway, forcing the fsd to go around the parked car, kind of initiating the pull in manouver. I guess it would probably just end the navigation before the parked car though... Nice video 👍 Cheers
I got the 30 days fsd a few months ago. The first two times coming home, it would just kinda pull over to the right but didn't pull into my driveway on the left. The third time, i decided to take over and pull into my driveway and hit the report that it's wrong destination. The next day and days after that, it always pulled into my driveway.
Does the Tesla app have precise location permission in your phone? Just trying to give you ideas of what it may be. I noticed my navigation will be on a certain road, then tell me to make a U-turn to get on the road I'm already on. (?)
Did you drop a pin for the house? My drive way is long and narrow then widens out with my detached car garage and it's never made any left turn. Also my street is narrow and parking on the same side of the street and my house so it wants to get over but never turns. So I just take over.
When I was running FSD 12.3.6, it would pull into my driveway, but now with FSD 12.5.2, it no longer does that. I feel like there are many regressions with 12.5.x compared to 12.3.6
Would it work if you painted or taped a standard parking space on the surface of your driveway? Would FSD recognize the space and auto park? You could label it "For Teslas Only" 😉
If you need to turn right onto the driveway, just take a wide birth to the left and then engage. It isn’t turning in when the driveway is right hand side because you are too close to the curb
My house is at the end of a culdesac, slightly to the left. My car will follow around the right of the circle and pull into my driveway by turning right, but not consistently. I usually back in so I don't actually let it park most of the time. Seems more willing to do it if there's already a car in the driveway to pull behind.
Pretty much all the assumptions I heard don't apply to my use of FSD. v12.5.1.3. 1) I have had FSD park in my driveway from the right. Not often though. 2) Approaching from the left it parks about 1/3 the time in my driveway. The rest of the time it either drives past or stops on the right. No pattern I can see. 3) I cannot start FSD in my driveway. Not only that but once I am in my road I cannot start FSD either. I always have to push the accelerator pedal to initiate FSD. 100% of the time. 4) My road only has 4 houses and has extremely limited traffic. speed limit is 15mph. Been using FSD since 10/2021. The destination pin is in my driveway.
FSD thinks my house is the 2nd house once you pull into my neighborhood, but my house is the 11th house down the road. It doesn’t attempt to enter anyone’s driveway. It occasionally pulls to the edge of the road on the right, and parks. I’m on 12.3.6.
V12.3.6. Won’t turn left into my 200 ft driveway from a busy street (with no traffic). When I force it to turn left, it kicks out and asks why… and I’m home and it’s too stupid to recognize this. Right turns into my driveway are a total no go. 6 years of FSD with this issue. To say I’m disgusted is a big understatement. Anyone who thinks FSD is normal driving on city streets is dreaming in my part of the world (Los Angeles) unless you don’t mind upsetting drivers behind you all the time. To all reviewers, if you are demonstrating FSD and not showing its faults, you are a disservice to mankind. It’s as big a lie as saying hybrids are the answer. End of rant. Thank you.
Today it pulled into my driveway from the left (MS HW3). It astounded me!...1st time. Normally stops in front when I arrive from the right. Will test some more.
I’ve been letting my version 12.5.2 park my Tesla butt first in my garage for several months now, even relocating my charging cable to more easily serve the car. Based on a RU-vid video, I installed 3” gaffer tape on 3 sides just larger than the model Y and it works well, not perfectly, but I end up tweaking it to clear the closing door. To help, I bought a cheap red laser from Amazon and connected it to the garage door light so it will only lite when the door is active. It shines onto the door trim at a specific spot. No problems thus far, tho I do final check door clearance.
My FSD does not go onto my driveway. super annoying. When I set destination to home, if i dont stop it when it gets there, it will past my home, and go around the block over and over.
I currently have FSD 12.5.4. This version and all the ones before slows down approaching my driveway (on the left) and keeps moving. It has never stopped for me. I would love it to pull into my drive and stop. This is the first video I have seen documenting it. I’m excited to experiment more. Thanks for making the video.
I have noticed a major regression between 12.5.4 and 12.5.2.1. My car would confidently enter the driveway from the left (only) and park beside my other car. Now, even with my other car out of the wide driveway, there is a total lack of confidence and, at times, inability to come into the driveway at all. The wheel swings wildly back and forth. I wonder if you’ve seen this on 5.4 as well.
Before this update, it would pull into my driveway if I used the turn signal but not now. I’m in a cul-du-sac. It starts to turn and then gets the wobbly steering wheel and acts like it wants to back in but just stops at an angle in the road. I’ll keep trying because it should learn.
The only issue comes if you want to charge. I always park backwards into my driveway since the charge port is in the back. If the car drives forward into the driveway, it will be difficult to plug into charge.
Volkswagen has a great parking “memory” function that records your driveway approach and parking. Tesla should add something similar. Even if the Tesla pulls into the driveway it might not park where you want it. ie left side or right side (think spouses space, etc) whereas if there is some “memory” the parking should be repetitive.
While on 12.3.6 approaching from the left, I noticed once it doubted if it should park on my driveway and then kept going past. I think because there was a parked car on the right side of the streets that forced it to drive on the middle of the street. So next time, I signaled left when I approached and surprise it went for it. If you use the turn signal, it was very repeatable on at home. It is worth noting it is a 2 car wide driveway, and it always parks in the middle with a little bias towards the right.
It parked twice in the neighbors driveway of a friend with 12.4.3 (just got 12.5.4 but I haven't tried it yet). Both time I was arriving with the driveway on the left side of the car (as for you).
like @linuxwarrior1 comment below, it worked for me in 12.3.6 if I turned the turn signal on. Today I installed 12.5.4. I started in the driveway. It was more jerky than 3.6 getting on to the road. When I returned after going to the store, I approach from the left, put the signal on as before (maybe I should have waited for it to do that) and it did the jerky steering wheel thing and then stopped in the road, then started going straight again. I need to test it more, but that is what happened the first time using 12.5.4.
As of yesterday I have 2023 M3p AI3 w/ v12.5.4 - 2024.27.25. My car has 100% pulls in my driveway with all the past versions of v12 mon the left side of road. There is a cul-de-sac past my house and it has turned in the driveway testing it to do a U-turn back to home on the NAV. I will test several times.v12.3.6 turned left in my daughter’s house in another town one time. Great video
My driveway has another car or two in it. Always room for me but fsd doesn't see it as a spot sadly haha. Also my gym has only slanted parking spots and it never detects them as parking spots. Maybe 1 day! Would also like to be able to choose to park forwards as well as backwards.. Maybe one day though
12.4 has surprised me three out of four times by signaling to turn into my driveway. It’s programmed to open the garage door and will pause a tap on the gas. We’re in the garage. If there’s a lot of cars parked in the road, the car has not turned into the driveway. 12.5 also is doing the same. I don’t have to do anything to make this happen.
He was protecting the driveway from being worn out. Once a Tesla moves into your neighborhood that neighborhood is lost, you might as well sell your house
