FT-991A connecting low-cost GPS Garmin eTrex 

Based on this video I connected my late stepfather's 2002 model original etrex to my 991A and it works great. The GPS symbol now appears on my screen. The 991A doesn't do APRS without some extra pieces connected, but when I have digital contacts I get to see how far away they are. Unfortunately I didn't read the comments so I didn't see the above post about changing the interface setting to NMEA and had to find that out for myself. I bought the power/data cable from eBay for $50 Australian posted to Australia from overseas somewhere. If you are going to do this make sure to buy the combined power/data cable as the data cable alone doesn't power the etrex and if you are using the connection for data you'll need to use batteries.
