Introduction FT991A C4FM Configure Call Sign & GPS to show correct location and distance on QSO's

This video demonstrates how to get the FT991A setup for C4FM communications by configuring the Call Sign and GPS Coordinates. When talking on C4FM the network tags your call sign and GPS and sends this information along with your transmission.

Very good video! However as a point of clarification, in my own testing when using a different DG-ID (e.g. 50) as you describe, everyone using a default DG-ID of "00" is still able hear everything. None of the QSO is filtered out. Also the call sign of the Tx radio will be displayed on the GM screen of the Rx radio using a DG-ID of "00". There are real benefits for using group monitoring in field operations for audio quality, positional awareness, filtering any unnecessary traffic in the group and I will add that in mountainous terrain the range of practical usage is extended. As I stated your video was one of the best I have seen on this topic, very good presentation.

In a previous video you did, you couldn't figure out why the other guy you were talking to couldn't see the distance. I left you a comment that I thought he didn't have his lat/lon settings in the radio. That's why his radio wouldn't show the distance. You should have asked him if he had his long/lat set up in his radio. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee

This video is great! Thanks for pointing me to it... I talked to you a while ago in the Texas Nexus room. One question I have is can an actual gps antenna be hooked up or do I have to always look up my location and enter it? I plan on installing my 991A in a backpack and make it mobile.

Good stuff. As a new ham, I purchased this radio, as I wanted something that does all the stuff OK right out of the box. However, I am having a helluva time connecting to my local wires X repeater. I can hit it on FM, no problem. But, on C4FM, its not getting the connection. There are two repeaters close to me that have this capability, and I am unable to lock into either one....I have combed through the manual, and cant seem to figure it out. I subbed to this channel, hoping a future video helps out!

Awesome video! I'm a newbie as far as C$FM and in planning stage as far as a rig. What if you want to go mobile with the FT-991A? How does that work as far as coordinate and GPS position? I was also thing of getting the FT-5D a well. Thanks.

I have the 991a but on c4fm find that the incoming audio from other stations is muffled and very basey. Asked a few people but they just say c4fm is like that. Can you offer any help please as to how I might improve it please ? Thanks, Nick, G0PZM. 73

When I first got my Yaesu 991a, I tried the C4FM (system Fusion) and, believe you, me, it sucked. I was under the impression that digital would be clean and crisp audio, but that's not the case. People on C4FM sound muffled and they sound like computer generated voices. If I had purchased the radio for digital mode, I would have sent it right back. FM and SSB have digital beat by a very long shot. More research has to be done to digital before I will ever accept it. It definitely needs to be fixed.

Hi Rusty how have you been, thanks for the feedback it got me thinking and I made a video to show the VW mode and I also found that lowering the microphone gain helps my FM setting of 65 was too hot for C4FM I found lowering the microphone gain to 30 and switching to VW mode gave me better results, let me know what you think take a look at this video and give me some feedback on what you think that would be cool '73 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M6fQJwq752o.html

I have this radio. C4FM works great but so far unable to connect to any repeaters using the "X" button. It seems to try but no dice. I'm in Jacksonville, FL. Am I supposed to sign up for Wires X somewhere or maybe some setting I need to fix? Sorry I just have no experience with Wires X.

Oh, also I stumbled across some kind of C4FM network on 145.555. There are no repeaters listed on repeaterbook anywhere close by with that frequency nor do I ever hear any repeater call sign given out. When people talk I can see their call sign and distance. Signal is very strong and I hear people hundreds of miles away. Is this maybe someone's close by hotspot that I'm picking up?

I just set up my new FT991A but do not know if there are any digital repeaters in my area of North Pole, Alaska. How can I find a C4FM / WIRESX station to link into? Do I have to register on another site to gain access? Could I link my radio to the internet to gain digital access to C4FM??
