Side note! In the UK, a single crochet is called a double crochet, and a double is called a triple. Make sure you know where your crochet patterns are from, to avoid confusion.
Is there a good way to tell the difference in patterns? I haven’t come across it yet but I would hate to get through an entire project and then be confused
@@kiaradietze9836 I can sometimes tell with spelling in written patterns. Usually the pattern will say the colours somewhere, if there’s no u it’s American. If there is a u, it’s probably from the uk.
@@themaryjay your work is amazing can you tell how did learn basics crochet or do a video explain how to start that's will be such wonderful jest from you 🌟✨✨
I also want to learn crocheting one day! I know nothing about it but am willing to learn everything and will trust the process whenever i decide to start 💖
To any beginner to amigurumi: the plushy will come out much better when using a hook that is one or two sizes smaller than the recommended hook on the yarn label, I usually use a hook that is one size smaller
@@gamespc-zi6zo I am a highly skilled crocheter, not a beginner, and I use mostly plush yarn and make mostly amigurumi. It looks to me like the hook she is using is a 10mm, which would be the hook that the yarn package would call for, for making blankets or other items. And yes, as you stated, a 7mm would be a better choice for amigurumi with blanket yarn. If someone is going to make teaching videos, they should be accepting of critics, when they are teaching incorrectly. 💕
Oh thank you! I'm struggling with amigurumi and the 2-3 size smaller hook. I thought I was going to give up my dream of making tons of plushies! I will try the 1 hook smaller (not to mention reeeally struggling with finding sts even on the 2nd round.)...just thought I'm incapable, tutorials make it look like a breeze!
I just learned how to crochet and I can’t stop 😝 it’s so addicting lol ! My daughter now has 4 jumbo whales 2 half sized dinosaurs and I’m currently working on a bunny 😂 hopefully someday I’ll be talented enough to make up my own patterns like you 🙌🏼☺️
Another important skill you need to know to be able to make amigurumis. You can sometime get away with this with making wearables depending on the pattern because some is no-sew but basically YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO SEW. This is very crucial and you'll need about basic-average skill in this to be able to really make amazing projects.
Also if you can’t figure out the magic circle, you can chain two and work your first row in the first chain. Great tips though! I could never figure out the magic circle so I improvised 😅
There’s an alternative to the magic ring, where you chain 2 then single crochet x number of times in the first stitch. It’s easier but sometimes you end up with a hole in the middle.
This is how I do it with all mine because I cannot for the life of me, ever get a magic ring to work. Been crocheting for over a decade. I gave up. If there’s a hole I usually just take a yarn needle and close it up with some extra yarn
@@Viki-ge2ux that’s always my issue. It gets stuck. So I just do the other method and close up any spaces if there are any. Usually there isn’t if I picked my yarn and hook properly
honestly ive been trying to crochet for a while and i thought i was bad at it but this video helped me realize i at least have the basic skills so thank you
I crochet a lot, particularly stuffed animals and i used to know how to make the magic ring. But I don't anymore. So to those who can't you can also do two chains, go back into the first chain and put as many stitches as you need into the first. It's simple but be careful. It can cause a hole at the top of your project though
I've been crocheting for years and I love it I've had many people ask me if I sell my stuff I never thought about it until I saw your videos. Your stuffed animals are so cute
What also really helped me was starting off with crotchet kits! It gave detailed instructions on even the basics which helped me build a good foundation for the future!
i usually skip stitches when trying to decrease because i couldnt bother watching a tutorial and just said whatever EDIT: holy crap i made this comment one year ago. im so much farther in my crochet journey, what was i thinking
I would love this video in a slowed down version! Your explanation is amazing! I just personally learn by rewatching videos that are slowed down, I take a while lol
also for the magic circle if you're like me and you can't make your fingers do that weird crossing thing for the life of you, wooble's youtube has a different approach that involves twisting the yarn on the hook rather than messing with the x magic circle method
to this day i'm still not great at the magic ring despite doing it so much. 😂 i always kinda awkwardly go about it until it seems right, i'm envious of people who can do it so effortlessly!
I’m actually crocheting while watching this, recently I have gotten into making toys and it’s so fun, I like making dolls and plushies, even though I have been crocheting for so long this was still very helpful, thank you.
Hi intermediate chrocheter here you can also chain a few and slip stuch them onto a circle and start the first round in that instead of a magic ring since some types of yarn wont work with a magic ring
You can use a slip knot instead of a magic ring. Don't tighten the slip knot all the way, leave a bigger opening. You can work into the ring you have from keeping the slip knot loose, make as many stitches as you need, just like with magic ring and then pull the yarn tail to tighten up the stitches.
Also you can just skip the magic circle by chaining 2 and making a ring by putting your sc's in the first chain. Really saved my ass because I've never been able to do a magic circle and my plushies look amazing!
Omg thank you so much for telling a easy way to start of the plushie I have a really hard time figuring a way to start off thank you so much your a life saver
You should use a smaller hook than the recommended size and tight tension for amigurumi also. With this type of blanket yarn, I use a 7mm hook, maybe an 8 at most.
Wait, are you just watching this video?? Because this isn't really a tutorial but an fyi so that would make sense! Here's the video with the actual tutorials on how to do these five skills: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zm6lTub09lM.html and if you need more help with the magic circle, here's a slow magic circle tutorial ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4PgvFNZdNjc.html
I struggle with the magic ring, when I go to increase after adding my single crochets I can never get my hook through both loops or find both loops. Once I get past the increases I find both my loops easily, but my magic ring always looks wonky because of it.
I know how to start a magic circle but i dont know how to make it into an actual circle. 😭 i only really know how to do a chain aswell unfortunately 😰 although its only my first day doing crochet
maybe try a beginner yarn that seems more like paracord than yarn and just use the hook size that it recommends on the yarn. plushie yarn is more difficult for beginners to see the stitches and regular yarn can fray if you accidentally push through it with the hook
hi! I'm a beginner when it comes to making crochet stuffed animals or amigurumi, one thing i want to know is how do you apply the safety eyes? if that's what they're called, anyway how do i put them on my stuffed animal??
All you need is yarn and a hook! I recommend getting a hook that isn’t plastic though, they tend to make the glide of the yarn tricky and are easy to break, I use aluminum hooks. On all yarn packaging is a section that will tell you what hook size is needed, most of the time the hook will be a 5.5mm or a 4.0mm. Red Heart yarn is always available at Walmart and are around $5, the yarn recommends 5.5mm hooks (on amigurumi i use a 4.5) and is pretty beginner friendly. I started crocheting by using RU-vid tutorials, the visuals are really helpful and you can always slow the video down if they go too fast. I also think you should start by making small squares of simple stitches. If you want to make plushies like in the video, make sure to have stuffing(you can buy some at a Walmart, or you can take scissors to an unused pillow 👀), safety eyes (or buttons), a thread needle, and something to mark your stitch since plushies work in the round. HIGHLY advise that you use a hook one size smaller than the recommended hook size when plushie making.
