Full Build: Turning a Stock 2020 Ford F-150 XLT Into The Ultimate Sport Truck

The Ford F-150 has been one of the most popular, American-made vehicles since it made its debut in 1975. It has a longstanding legacy of being the ultimate working man’s pickup truck, and we’ve decided to take it a step further by taking a stock 2020 F-150 XLT and giving it a facelift by improving its performance, comfort, functionality, and flashiness.
When we first got our F-150, it was 100% stock from the factory. So even though this truck was fully capable when we first got it, our mission was to transform it into an even more capable sports truck. That means we get to work with a completely blank canvas, so naturally, our imaginations were going wild!
Of course, like any F-150, one challenge we faced was being burdened with such a wide selection of extra parts, as well as knowing which ones to pick without going overboard. After taking it out for a road test, improving this truck’s handling and braking abilities was the main directive behind this build. Thanks to our friends at EBC Brakes, this F-150 seamlessly transitioned from stock to the ultimate sport truck.

Have to agree. However I can also see the why in this case, as it isa SEMA Show build, with EBC. You have to build something over the top, and attention getting. It's the only way your build stands out, for many attendees..I'm not one of them, and what catches my eye ain't flashy graphics, or big custom wheels, with 30% aspect ratio rubber. I'm more of a sleeper guy, same for my wife. And we love rat rods, and patina shop trucks. And something with subtle mods, that you have no idea why, but know it's not stock. And as a painter, I love a nice finish on an eye catching color. Needless to say, my wife and I almost never see exactly wjat we like, but we respect any sweet looking build. Even if we would have passed on what they made. There is, and never will ne, any build that comes without sacrifice, be it cash or time. Every build speaks to the passion of the people who built it. That will always make a nice custom something worthy of respect, to those who created it.

Its also ok for people to not put those stupid ass wheels and ridiculous rubber band tires on trucks. Yet, they continue to put those useless, ugly trash piles on there. Its ok though, just seperates the mall crawlers from everyone else.

The only real improvement performance-wise was in braking. Otherwise the truck was slower and didn't handle any better. The stickers detracted from a beautiful paint job. Rims are nice. All in all, if they'd just swapped the brakes, added leather seat covers, and ceramic-coated the truck, they'd have a truck that's cheaper, faster, and better looking (depending on how important a monochromatic paint job is).

So they took a stock truck, lowered it added a fart can muffler and a “cold air intake”. They made it slower and annoying sounding. Congratulations! You turned it into every kids 95 Civic.

I own this same truck in the Oklahoma edition....Mine looks better stock than all their crap they put on it.....Great running truck, I've always had v8s but my 2020 will smoke all of my prior trunks. Also has great torque. 380 hp 400 ft lbs of torque....It's all you need.

I understand the graphics are for advertising , in this case. But I don’t want to drive a billboard. My 13 regular cab, short bed with a 3.7 base engine , ran 0-60 at 7.0 from the factory.

Those are very modest gains in performance. The main gain seems to come from the appearance upgrade, shes a bute. Those EBC brakes also seem to be a worthy upgrade.

Well, like all of their projects like this, it's really just an ad for a sponsor - in this case EBC Brakes - so that's not very surprising. If they were actually serious about performance, they would have gotten one with a Coyote V8 and put a supercharger on it.

I just had a mini highway pull with my 2018 supercrew 5.0L vs a 2022/23 rcsb f-150 5.0L. He took a small hit and i was surprised how little he pulled. Now a longer run would probably tell more of a story. It was all in fun down in mexico.

That thing still needs a few mods and we don't need graphics on every car or truck. Plus I have a 2018 2WD 2.7 EcoBoost and I think mine handle n stopped better then that. I'm not saying EBC brakes are the best but there ok. Plus idk what mode u had trans in. Get rid of the tool box thingy in bed that's extra weight and u lowered it way to low.. they have a special made hook for that back seat ford doesn't want u to know about. And need a oil catch can system. And much more...

The issue I have with the EBC brakes is the cost. I can get a set of Power Stop brakes for a lot cheaper. This is for my 2016 Ford Escape Titanium. Living in Canada where everything is over priced to begin with. Every saving you can get is what matters.

My 2.7 eb supercrew did a 5.97 0-60 on a draggy with spinning (its a 2wd no locker) so either Nashville altitude is up there or a 5star 93 tune would benefit that truck a lot

Ok.. so clearly: brakes upgrade are the only things that are worth doing?! Also, guys.. they’re running EBC Brakes in the decal so OBVIOUSLY they were paid to do so and also didn’t pay for their upgrade. TV vs RU-vid means we don’t see a “sponsored add segment” that’s clearly indicated here

@@WhitefolksTugh yes you can. Supercrews come in either a 5.5ft bed or a 6.5ft bed. A 250cc bike is 7ft long. Put the tailgate down and both bed configurations can haul a dirt bike with ease. Id argue a shortbed truck looks better than a long bed regular cab.

@@WhitefolksT Been using the hell outta my 5.5 ft bed f150. It's full of tool boxes, ladder rack, insides full of pack-outs. Love the short turning radius of them. Weekends I pull the boxes and it still catches a little air, rips mud, sand, pushes snow... LOL Not a fan of lowering em though.

*7 to 8 sec to do a 0 to 60 pull? These trucks are capable of a bit faster than that in stock form* Usually 6 sec easy. The only problem with 2WD is the brake boosting produces torque that just shreds the tires. I know my 4WD would when in just 2WD with the rear axle locked *Tuned 4x4 3.5 ecoboost trucks do 5 sec 0 to 60* I think a Five Star Tuned with just air filter mod did 4.7 sec. All stock engine, turbos etc I'm guessing maybe they did the half ass 0 to 60 attempts in hopes of easy "improvements" perhaps.

The 2.7 is even a monster with a tune,and been proven to smoke the Chevy 6.2 and the hemis... this could have gone so much better.

@mikewhite3123 They are impressive. But something was wrong here in this video as the stock 3.5 EB is faster than the times in this video. It may just be that it needed to be driven by someone who knows the sweet spots of these trucks for brake boost, amount of throttle... And they should have turned the traction control off and let the tires slip a little. Traction control can really pull back the torque and be stingy at allowing full output again. Someone who drives these trucks would know. Mine was a 4WD so I did have 4W Auto which was a secret weapon at stop lights to allow me to fully brake boost 👍

That V6 just doesnt have the soul. The sound is not great even through an expensive exhaust. Gotta get the Coyote with the regular cab if you want a sport truck. This is just a SEMA special.

The V6 doesn't sound good with a loud exhaust. But that turbo V6 out performs the Coyote by quite a bit. Especially towing.

i swear i wish people would stop pushing those braided stainless steel brake lines that braided stainless line makes it impossible to tell if your brake lines need to be replaced and the braided housing doesnt do a damn thing for making the brakes work better as it so loose the brake line still swells when pressure is applied to the pedal theyre only intended to be aethetically pleasing and are absolutely not a performance enhancing item WILL NOT RESPOND TO COMMENTS

Lots of lowered street trucks. My lowered Ram is 4X4 as well, “No Prep” setup for the street, definitely not a daily driver though. My 4X4 Colorado is lifted though🤣

My favorite truck I've ever owned was a single cab 2001 SVT lightning. But I was a 22 year old Marine with no kids. And my wife stole it most of the time LOL. I have to have a 4 door now with 2 daughters and dogs. Much more practical Edit: Lightning's only came in the single cab, in case certain people didn't know 😉👍.

I was really excited when I saw this episode listed... Until they said 3.5L eco... ugh... No body wakes up and says I want to turn my v6 into a race truck What you NEED is a 5.0L V8 American Muscle. And then plant a Super Charger onto the top of the engine. And then you have a race truck............... sorta.....

5.0 is great once you add the superch. Stock to stock the V6 turbo ecoboost out performs the NA V8 in every way. Acceleration. Towing. Etc

I call this a wasted episode. Brakes were the only real performance upgrade the rest was just a bunch of crap that isnt worth it. And it sounds like a 4 banger. Nope, I want the time I used watching this back. I doubt these guys could do a real budget build. Try this you have 7,500 bucks for upgrades and $5000 for the vehicle purchase. Only stipulations are US nameplate and big block. Nope they wont take that on.

This build is starting off with the wrong truck. No 4x4, no coyote with a Whipple blower, and no 2-4 drop from Bell Tech. Those are the ingredients for an ultimate sport truck. And ditch the guy with the accent. I was really excited to see this build until I started watching the video. 😔
