I found my sister that was adopted back in 1945 through Ancestry. She never knew I existed. I found out about her when I was around 16 years old. I have been looking for her since 1968. It took 51 years , but I am so grateful.

Heartbreaking. My parents sent me to a convent in 1968 after we found out I was pregnant. They cut off all communication with my boyfriend who had just joined the Marine Corps and had no idea I was pregnant. I delivered a stillborn baby girl when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant. My boyfriend and I never found each other for 43 years and we never stopped looking. We met again in 2009 after I found him online. We got married in 2018. I just wish my daughter had survived so he could have seen her. She looked just like him.

I had my first son in 1977 at age 16. My parents supported my decision to keep him, in fact they encouraged me. It was a big deal in our little town back then and there was a lot of gossip. Most Girls either "had" to get married before they were ready, or they put their babies up for adoption. I finished high school, met a nice young man and got married at 19. He adopted my son and raised him no differently than his bio son we had a couple years later. These stories hit close to home because I know how easily that could have been me and my son.

This is beautiful. Rita had John's ankle bracelet & receiving blanket, plus that precious picture. His adoptive-Dad was not in favor of the meeting, because he didn't want an interruption of their family. Yet if she hadn't given birth to him & been forced to give him up, the Angelo family wouldn't have gotten the son they love. As for Evelyn & Kristen - it was a natural meeting. They fit as if the 45 years hadn't existed. They look so much alike, Kristen should know how she'll look in 18 to 20 years plus Evelyn has grandchildren. GOD BLESS to them & their families.

I was placed in an orphanage the day I was born. My biological mother married a man about 6 weeks before I was born. He was not my biological child. They left the state and moved to another state 1500 miles away. The week before my first birth, when the State could have severed her paternal rights, she came back and claimed me. She took me to the State where she had moved to. She kept me just short of two weeks before turning me over to the orphanage there. Again she didn’t release for adoption. I remember the orphanage! I remember falling down and cutting my knee and knowing it was up to me to ask for a bandaid. I don’t remember hugs, bedtime stories or someone saying prayers. I do remember the day when this man and woman came and took me away. I remember standing between the two of them in the front seat. It took months of patience for me to learn to trust enough to allow my Mama to hug me. As each year passed I always wondered if my bio-Mother thought of me on my birthday. My Mama divorced and married several times. Her mother was physically abusive to me. The uncle molested me for years. The entire family referred to me as Jay, (insert Mama’s name) adopted daughter. I was told, you wouldn’t understand, your not blood. Finally as an adult I was lucky enough to obtain my birth name due to a mistake. I found the bio-mother in 1978. Years before computers. The relationship didn’t work out. It never even became a friendship. Fast forward to present day. At my daughter’s urging I took a DNA test. One thing I learned everything the bio-mother told me was about 2 steps from the truth, but close enough thanks to the DNA test I have found out so many things about me that I never would have thought. On the HUGE plus side I discovered on my bio-father side I HAVE A BROTHER! I have lived 74 years as an only child and now I am a big sister! I flew from the west coast to the northern mid-west. I had no expectations of acceptance. I was fully prepared to say hello and that would be it. My brother welcomed me with open arms and hugged me tightly. He checks on me frequently. I wouldn’t have done this second time after the first disaster, except for the television program. SO AMAZING!! I finally have family more than my two children and grands. I cannot find the words to tell you what this means to me! ❤️

I have attempted to get on this show but what I know now is all things are possible. Through the due diligence of my daughter (ANGEL) and Ancestry I now know I am the eldest of six children and will be able to see and touch some of them in the near future! Infant he didn't even know about me ! But after months of talking he said Daughter I need to see you face to face, with the blessing of his wife. He was 83 at the time. Now 3 and 1/2 years later we still talk almost daily and I go up to see him. We're 4 states apart. I have a huge family on my Mother's side. My Grandma was one of 15 so you do the math on how many cousin's I have !!! Lol !! Love going to family get together now !! Best wishes and enjoy the beginning of an amazing journey!!

We adopted 10 children from VietNam. Once they had been here in our State of Texas for 6 years we one by one took 9 of them back to visit 0:00 their birth families. We are so glad we did that. Many came from North Vietnam and their parents served in the VN War. What a thrill to visit the families of our kiddos. The Fathers were Viet Cong during my high school years and now we hugged eachother and were so pleased they seemed happy with tears that their kids were happy and healthy. That removed the mystery our kids had about their birth families and birth country. Two of our VN kids saved their work incomes and flew to Vietnam alone to visit their families.

Same Here, But I'm the Child of an Adoptive Parent X 2 ( The second one I found by accident). My Dad was Adopted & His Adoptive Parents Were the Worst Nightmares you could ever Imagine, and How & Why the State of Missouri in 1940's Gave these People Custody of My Dad is Beyond Me! My Dad's Bio-logical Parents was hard to follow, But I found my Bio-logical Grandparents were Never Married, Had 5 Kids, (10 yrs old to 5 Months old) and the Bio-Mother "Virginia" Ran Off with a "China Man" which turned out to be a Filipino Man, and she continued to do this for years with MANY Men, a few marriages & divorces, LOTS of Children left behind & abandoned. My Bio-Aunt found My Dad (Her Baby Brother) Which they Went together to find ALL the rest of each other of the Siblings. I, Me Just the Child of a Adoptee Finally Felt "Partially Whole" I knew what I needed to do I had to find what happened to My Bio-Grandparents, Bio-Family. It took me about a 1-2 yrs of digging, calling, digging, being hung up on, and folks telling me I had nothing to do with it, that my Bio-Grandmother liked Dark Meat & was a Slut, I can't count how many people told me this, Well Over 300, or its None of my Business. That's when I contacted my Oldest " Bio-Aunt Carolyn" She has been Looking for her "Momma" since 1950's, She's 90 yrs old this Year and I gave her, what she wanted to know, what happened to her Birth Parents. It was the Hardest thing telling Her, My Dad & All My Bio- Aunts & Uncles, that their Father/ My Bio-Grandfather "Basil" Tried to Get his Children Back, But as Most know when Children are in CPS, they aren't going Home. In 1948 He died, Nothing on death certif. to describe why or how, he was 39 yrs old. Then in 1980 the Bio Mother/ My Bio-Grandmother "Virginia" Died from Unknown Reasons as Well, She was 65 yrs old. Finding them Made My HEART WHOLE!! Learning about my Bio-Grandpa "Basil" Warmed My Heart as Now I know where a Lot of my Family Traits come from Him & His Side of the Family. As for the Bio-Grandmother "Virginia" I don't have Much to say about her, the information I've collected on her after she not only abandoned these 5 kids, But Many Countless Others too. I used to refer to her as the Bio-Grandmother, now she's Just "Virginia" Not My Dad's or his Siblings Bio-Mother, nor my Bio-Grandmother, She Lot that "TITLE" When She Walked Away & Never Looked Back. Then here's a Doozy, while Looking Up My Dad's Side, I just stumbled across the fact that Under My Mom the Man that raised her wasn't her Birth/ Bio-Father/ Daddy. That Was Shocking For Her, Me & other Family Members. But No One Alive to Be able to Find All the Info!! Except I figured out who he was, and found out he died in WW2, With My Mom's Uncle Pete, Found Pictures too. You Never Know Where Life is Gonna Take You, I have Gained So Many Extended Family Cousins, Aunts & Uncles, Great Aunts & Uncles. What or Who "Virginia" was with after My Grandfather Basil, They or We Have Become FAMILY. We Don't Look at the Color of Our Skin, We Look at the Characteristics, Traits & DNA Were Family That's ALL That Matters!!

I admire your sentiment and I have no doubt that you mean it. However, it isn't always about what anybody else thinks. And you live in times now where it isn't something that will separate you from others (something very sad but happened all the time). And often, it wasn't a case of caring what others thought. Often, it was because the mother, for example, was not able to provide for her child/children or was not emotionally stable enough to handle the situation. For them, it may have been in the best interest of the child to give him or her up to someone else who could provide for them. Others, like Rita, were forced to give the child up. You live in different times.

That is so sad because his real Mom gave him up to be adopted and he should understand how his son feels. Watching him watch his adopted he seemed scared of what his adopted Dad would say. As a birth mother, you have to understand that for decades, having a baby out of wedlock WAS a scandal. It was a big shameful secret. In this day and age when it's completely the opposite, you have no idea of the fear and shame put on birth mothers back then.

lee yes, I totally agree. I am just expressing how terrible those times were. I can't imagine their pain, and the "control" their families or "situations" had over these young women. I imagine that in these young women's hearts, they wanted better for their babies because they couldn't give them what they needed. Women today still give their children up for adoption. Maybe the stigma is not as strong today, but they give them up for the same reasons.

No offense to any person who had gone or is going through this but I'm glad that I am a young woman in the year 2020. I've been watching these stories for a while. I've seen grandparents literally calling their grandchild their kid, I've seen stories like these two women, and I've seen stories about single young mothers going into homes only to give up that child for adoption. From what I gathered is that when a young girl or single women got pregnant back then, people in that women's personal life literally made adoption the only option because they were afraid of what society might think. Not what the mother wanted. I mean, know stuff like this still happens today but it's pretty sad that people didn't think about the physiological trauma these women had to go through because they were forced to give their child up.

I am 56 years old and grew up in a very strict Roman Catholic family and I was told I had HAD to get married, when I got pregnant out of wedlock. My dad had all my clothes bagged in big black trash bags and sitting outside the front door of our big rich estate, by the backdoor, where no one could see from the street. If I had known about Welfare, I would have gone and received it and gotten the hell out of there. This was 1988. My son grew up in a less than stellar environment where his parents weren't right for eachother and eventually got divorced. Which wasn't ok in the eyes of the Catholic Church, but I didn't care by then. I escaped a Domestic Violence situation and was happy to be out of that family. Now, I give people the benefit of the doubt before I judge, and that has truly changed me as a person. God bless you and your family.

Just believe that He is who He says He is and that He did what He says He did and you will be Saved!!! 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

My favorite show on TLC is now “ Long Lost Family” I saw this for the first time yesterday and tears just flow down my cheeks on these shows. This is by and far the best show on TV now. Not just on TLC.

So happy for them. I hope that Evelyn and Kristen are able to live closer to each other and be able to spend more time together and not just birthdays.

Hello. Seems no one responded to you. Im 63 and was on a journey over 45yrs. Ups and downs and lots of heartbreaks. Start by doing a dna test as so much is online now. I cant do as much as I use to as I no longer live in US but I want to always pay it forward for those who helped me. I pieced together my results and in the end it wasn't a happy ending. But no one can understand the need to know but another person who has the same issues.

That father that adopted HER son should be grateful for HER and want to give her some of the joy and peace back that HER son brought to them for the past 3 decades. Emotions are ok but seems spiteful with no recognition of her pain or her son’s natural questions.

The adoptive father of John is just selfish. I understand his fear but he must not feel very secure in his relationship with his son.

No it’s was the same with my adopted parents. Only logical they are afraid meeting a birth parent will affect their relationship. Mine never did. Loved them all but mom and dad were my only mom and dad .

I just discovered very recently through ancestry dna that I had a long lost cousin and I reached out and to find out she was looking for loved ones also and did the testing also. Were not distant rather extended like 2-3 gen. Then I reached out and she was really wanting to know me so we spoke and then on a sunday I asked her is your sister biological. She took sometime to respond back and said yes my brother and sister are through my mom. We are of slovak descent and she says you have more slovak cousins. I broke down and cried tears of joy. I feel complete in that sense. I may never have met her but in three days it felt like I knew her all my life. She told all her family and boyfriend to. I'm so happy!!

MY DAUGHTER’S “LONG LOST FAMILY” was a family of drug abusers, addicts, still to this day. She was born addicted to so much, she will NEVER RECOVER DUE TO LEARNING ISSUES.......It destroyed my girl to “meet” her “uterus”. She ran... never looked back....... not all stories are good.

OF course not all can have happy endings. Some mothers don't want to meet child due to their new life. But many are joyous reunions.

I lived in Santa Maria for many years. It made me feel a little connection with Evelyn. We probably shopped at the same stores... Walmart, Target, Costco. I hope Kristen and Evelyn are very close.
