One of the few things in CA that I almost miss is those OHV parks for some quick offroading, I used to live a few minutes from Prairie City. Glad you managed to get out on the dirt and your reaction is one of the reasons to own a Jeep. I would be interested to see the difference in the real world with the lock n load back to back on the same obstacle. Keep getting out there.
@@AutoEdits if you ever come to Oregon it would be great to hit up some trails here. Lots of great places to work on those driving skills. We are heading to the Rubicon on the 23rd also. 2021 is going to be a fun year of Jeeping
I'm impressed. To be honest, I thought the whole locked n loaded thing sounded somewhat gimmicky. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, there's no way anyone could've convinced me that Metalcloak reinvented the radius arm. Your reaction & the expression on your face alone just showed me how closed minded I am. I'm stoked that your stoked with your rig's performance.
Thanks Jason!! I'm down to MetalCloak, TeraFlex, and Rock Krawler for the lift on our '13 JKU Sport. Just when I think I've settled on which one, I see a video like this and I go back to the drawing board - lol. That long arm, lock-n-load kit looks pretty darn cool. I'm learning every time I watch one of your videos. Hope to see you out on the trails in the future!
That is so dang cool! Your build is really amazing! I love your enthusiasm Jason. Thanks for making these quality videos. I am learning a lot from you.
This is what it's all about! I love your videos where you show us your builds/swaps/mods/etc. but I guess that seat time is the payoff for garage time! Enjoy the heck out of it. As always, I can't wait for the next video! Been a fan for a long time. Keep up the great work!!!!
I always seem to miss you at HVOHV. We were just there this weekend. The extra inch of lift and the 38s makes all the difference. I tried the concrete ledge and couldn't do it due to the area where my front tires land was all dug out. That caused the belly to bottom out. Guess its time to upgrade to the 4.5 lift
Great job Jason. Always enjoy your videos and honesty. You truly share your ups and downs and not faking anything. I mostly enjoy your different "identities"! Keep it up!!
Love the video! You got excellent shots and really showed everything working. My buddy has this same lift on his JK and loves it. I'm a technical kind of guy so I really appreciate videos that show how stuff works while it's being used.
I'm a Metalcloak Believer. I bought a 3.5in Game Changer kit for my 2 Door and I love how it wheels. I am constantly getting comments about how my Jeep looks straight out of a magazine with the flex I am getting with it. But flex isn't the only thing I love about it. I am always amazed at how it can be that my lifted jeep constantly out performs all the trucks(solid axled mostly) I get to drive. There are a few things I'd like to improve on like a new(replacing the factory original) steering damper and linkages, ball joint eliminators, and some cosmetic stuff but with 35s and 4.10 gearing it does really well for itself. I like how I don't have to give any throttle input at all to get up just about any obstacle(My Jeep is a manual). I noticed Jason had a few times where he came close to stalling it and I wonder if he's re-geared to be running 37's? Anyways I love my MC lift, it enables so much and does so for very competitive pricing. I love Teraflex but for me, MC just has a better kit for the money.
Great video man! I like how you showed all the action shots underneath. The MC lock and load kit is pretty cool, but it does have some shortcomings with the radius arms. For example, 10:29. You can see how much pinion change your axle went through on just that little bump. Really have to be carefull when you start doing larger obstacles, especially when they are on an incline with the radius arm setup. Hopefully one day we can get out and wheel together!
Good observation, I'll be curious to see how it performs in the wild on some actual stuff. I honestly couldn't "feel" a difference between locked and unlocked but it makes sense that the driveshaft could only handle a certain amount of induced angle. Yeah it would be great to finally meet up on some dirt!
@@AutoEdits Having radius long arms on our TJ’s we’ve experienced nothing but great results. Our front pinion angle follows through perfectly on suspension travel. This footage could some be a optical allusion from using a Go Pro type of camera. We’ve looked at incorporating that Lock N Load from Metal onto our Jeeps but haven’t yet. Key board warriors will tell you everything wrong with radius arms. How they won’t flex. Why you need a 4 link front suspension. Don’t believe the hype and keep making great videos.
Nice going! I am taking a good look at this lift, thanks to you. You on this video didn't have your s/bar disconnected, and it was doing g well. Subde 👍🤙
Seems like a real pain in the butt to have to get down there and unlock / lock the control arm. I’ve never been a fan of radius arm suspensions. It looks like it’s working out well though. Definitely agree, seat time over everything.
I can’t begin to tell you how much this review meant to me. This is the lift kit that I decided to get 6 months ago . After 1 year of search and study I knew I had to have Metalcloaks 4.5 Lock n load. I have waiting to see this up close in a video other than an installation. I NOW have my confirmation that it’s what I need. Thanks so much for sharing. You different angles made it easy to see.👍👍
Thanks so much for posting this, I have the rear set up with DB3 brackets, control arms, now working to get the stuff for the front radius set up. Not too many videos on this. Really appreciate the time you took to film this. BTW, PSC Hydroassist, you’ll wonder how you ever used to turn your wheels. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thank you! I just did a full PSC install on my buddies jeep and as great as I thought it was... I do miss that "on center" feeling a bit. Did you check out this video...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lMjd-nrJXNY.html
@@AutoEdits you know that may be a Jeep to Jeep thing. When I turn the corner it does self center. When I was researching that was a major concern, and was willing to deal with it, but much to my surprise it wasn’t an issue. Apparently the big bore kit without Hydroassist is also a world of difference, that may be solution also. 🤙🏽 keep up the great work! Love your vids!
Awesome! Watching it articulate up the rutted hill was really satisfying. It's fascinating how well that works, and how level it keeps the body. Also, I'm blown away by how clean you continue to keep your Jeep underneath.
@@AutoEdits I currently have a 15 CR-V AWD, which I've definitely made my own with plenty of upgrades including Dobinsons lift springs, but started looking in earnest for a pre-owned 4runner or Tacoma with upgrades planned for overland camping 🤞
did you just cut of the mounting tab for the stab shock on the axle or have you made a new bracket on the axle? Still using the same mounting position for the track bar? Ask you about that in a another video and at that point you where still happy how that position works with the high steer and flip kit. I just installed my UD44 this weekend but have not yet have time to testdrive. Must torque everything and fill up the diff house with oil. Cant wait to take a testdrive and hope I will found that my high steer kit works well with the dana bracket. I still have original knuckles. keep up with your nice channel and good videos. You are such a positive person so it is fun to watch.
Love your enthusiasm autoedits! Where is this at? I’m near Santa Clarita and would like to see how my short arm metal cloak performs and would like to put it thru the paces like this!
Next you go out wheeling on this course you should sync up a camera with you pedal footwork. Would be interesting to watch a split screen view of what your feet are doing with the clutch, gas, break as you tackle the different obstacles.
That's such a cool little rock garden to test in without having to go out in the middle of nowhere. I think a cool test would have been to "lock" the lock and load, and go up that first hill again and see if it still goes up without the lockers. I am betting the front end would have limited articulation and required you to lock the axle.
Installing my 4.5” lock n load this weekend. Any issues with squat or unloading (lifting front) on uphill climbs? Also, did you have to delete the exhaust loop? Instructions make that seem mandatory… Thanks for all the vids. I’m all cloaked out here too.
If you have the DB3 brackets in the rear... they have amazing anti-squat built in watch the beginning of this video for a good example of that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lMjd-nrJXNY.html The Lock n Load didn't require exhaust mods on either the 2013 or 2016 I installed them on. I'm extremely happy with the setup.
Next time mount the GoPro back where it stares at the profile of the Lock-n-Load to see how much it compresses. Very sweet set-up though. I like that you stuck with the D44 rather than 60’s at this point. I want to keep the daily driver & keep her on the lighter side.
I was shocked at how my friends Jeep was extremely daily driver friendly with the Dynatrac D60 I installed on it. Other than cost and weight... not sure D44 is truly the best way anymore. I'm happy because I honestly couldn't afford a full set of 60's but if you watch my last video driving Joe's jeep to northern california... you'll see how comfortable that setup can be.
Is that your locker connecter or locked indicator connecter that's unplugged and dangling on your front axle? Cool video! Really has me thinking about doing this on the front
I also missed Pinto. Wonder how his Chevy is making out. Of course the danger he runs into is feeling good when you first do something and then it wears on you until the next upgrade. I currently am upgrading my control arms to standard Metalcloaks.
@@AutoEdits I have heard the same from fellow jeepers but have not experienced it myself. I would be curious for sure. Especially with a full load of gear. In my Jeep I carry a box with some tools and recovery gear, and 5 people (2 adults and up to 3 kids). Pretty full load when out on trails. We drive to our adventures so we would have to have good on road manors too. Looking forward to seeing what you try. Depending on how you like it we may try the same.
Now that the Teraflex long arm kit is out, would you have still went with the MetalCloak kit over the Teraflex kit. I currently have a 3.5" lift on my Jeep JL and looking to go to a 4.5" lift on long arms, but can't decide on which kit would work best for my application. The springs from my current lift are sagging so I think the MetalCloak springs might be able to help with that.
Hey Jason! Big Fan of your work. Getting ready to get my Jeep lifted and I’m just shooting my shot and wondering if you could give me a hand installing it.
Even though the jeep articulates like a gymnast esp thru the sluice why do I feel that the Ram can do almost everything the jeep can with half the suspension travel? The main benefit to the jeep is how it’s narrower and lighter? Maybe as a guy with 2 rams I’m biased but I do want a jeep but I know I’ll end up spending so much upgrading it and idk if I can justify it yet esp when you have influences like Jason who always has the good stuff on his vehicles I couldn’t sleep at night knowing I half assed my upgrades ha!
They are distinctly different animals...lol The ram sounds so much better with a little hemi v8 and goes down the highway so dang good. Long drives are just flat out relaxing in the ram and a little more effort in the Jeep. But I could climb rocks like that sluice all day with confidence in the Jeep but freaking out that one of the front half shafts is about to snap in the ram the entire time... so totally different!
It drives better than it did stock... go to the end of this video and check out the canyon test drive ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VCA3rd4dhIE.html Or check out this one of my road trip in Joe's Jeep with the same suspension going 80 down the freeway like a Cadillac ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lMjd-nrJXNY.html
Dude love your videos I been following you since you did the road trip to see your sister. Hey you think you can make a video or some tips of how to drive manual off road ..
So will getting rocks, sticks and dirt, etc. jammed in-between the upper control arm spring coils keep it from working? I can see those springs getting a beating and wearing out quickly. Glad you're the test bunny.
Hey Jason! I’m strongly considering this kit but I’m torn between the radius arm option and the regular four link option. Why’d you go with the lock and load option over the 4 link?
Oh man... they have hundreds of options... go to the page and scan and have fun... here's the video I did and the link is in the description ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WHOHvf9HxQM.html
I'm not sure about the sensor pigtails... could you just re route them for length? This thing has a ridiculous amount of droop and they seem to be ok. I love the Patagonia tires... I had them at 8psi for this video and they were a big part of why this Jeep just walked all that stuff... certainly wasn't my driving LOL
It’s two wires, I bought another sensor and spliced the wires together, heat shrink. I have never had an issue. Lengthened them 6”. I use those heat shrink connectors with the solder and they are strong
Love the shocks... went with them again by choice. The only maintenance I did was to top off the nitrogen every year or so (I went 2 the first time) and clean the outside.
Can't get over that Dana 44. I would want a blue diff cover when I get mjnd. Please do tell me how I can get one with blue. That axle housing a a big bore steering box is my next upgrade with the 4" build I have already.
I have the 5.5 inch mid arm. It does as good as I need off road. I’m more wondering how the on road is improved. I feel mines about as good as stock maybe a little better now
I didn't read through all the comments. But do you feel by disconnecting the front sway bar would give you more articulation? Enjoyed your video. Take care. I'm adding the MC Lock & Load to my TJ.
Hey man kinda off topic but I got a 1972 mustang Mach 1 fastback and I’m looking at tire sizes, I’m really thinking about 15x8 mag 500s with a 255 tire up front and a 15x10 mag in back with 275. Ik that’s the similar size setup you have, do you have any problems rubbing up front on the inside?
Howdy! I absolutely love to talk Mustang on a Jeep video... actually makes me feel more like a community rather than a few separate groups ... lol... I run a 255/40 R17 on the front now with no issue at all. Not sure how a 15" wheel would effect that since your backspace would be a little farther out... I have a 4.75 backspace or -6mm offset for reference.
When you re-tighten the lock and load, do you have a marker to know how tight to tighten the spring? Or do you just tighten until spring is bottomed out? How does this affect length of upper radius arm on drivers side in relation to lock and load?
Hey, quick question! Your thoughts on my transfer case going out.... I decided to buy a used transfer case for $350 with 100k miles on it (mine has 160k). Safe gamble considering its like $2000 for a rebuild or a reman, installed?
