Full Restoration Of A 1966 Gillette Slim Adjustable!

Found my grandfather's Gillette Slim Adjustable L-4 (1966), it was in good working condition, but needed some cleaning as every old razor!
Here is my restoration step by step, cleaning, lubricating, polishing and then repainting the numbers!
I hope you liked the process and maybe I helped you with your restorations!

Άψογος!👍👍👍 Μόνο πρόσεξε τώρα που θα μπει στο rotation των μηχανών που χρησιμοποιείς να μην βάλεις πάλι wd40 για αποφυγή τυχόν ερεθισμών. Αν χρειαστεί στο μέλλον λίπανση να χρησιμοποιείς παραφινέλαιο (από το φαρμακείο), το οποίο είναι φιλικό στο δέρμα και εννοείται ότι κάνει για τα σπειρώματα όλων των μηχανών.

doesn't the enamel paint dry out on the whole dial if you leave it or is it easy to remove the excess afterwards? I'll use this on a Gold plated razor so I can't really use any chemicals with it

The first minutes, it will not be completely dry out. That's why you leave it around 5 minutes, to stick on the inside of the letters/numbers and then you remove the excess paint. It will go out easily, don't worry. But don't press it very much, otherwise you will remove some paint from the numbers. Then remember to leave the numbers to dry for maybe 1-2 days, just to be sure! @@annubiussn5998I just repainted all my numbers on 3 Gillettes today. I used black spray paint. I squirt it into the bottom of a soda can until it puddled and used a toothpick to dab it into the numbers then wiped it away after a few minutes. All my numbers look fresh as new now.

Hello my friend! I translated your comment. So first I left Tha razor on warm water with dish detergent for about 2 hours. Then I brushed it with old brushes to remove the most of the dirt. I applied WD-40 for the mechanism. Then I used Glanol for metal polishing and I repainted the numbers with enamel paint! Last step I cleaned again the razor with disinfectant before use! I hope I helped you!

Well done. I would caution against using WD40 as a lubricant. It smells awful and acts as a dust magnet. It may cause a skin reaction if you have any left on the razor when you use it. I suggest refined mineral oil instead of WD40, and very sparingly. Gillette did not use any lubricants on their razors at the factory, to the best of my knowledge.

After the WD-40, I rinsed it well many times with dish detergent and then I used some disinfectant! The WD-40, was just to remove everything that could be inside the handle and the mechanism!
