Facebook- Fishing with Timmy Turtle Instagram- timmyturtle_unofficial Hi guys! thought I'd put together a video explaining everything I have learnt in my first season of chasing mangrove jacks! Hope this helps and you enjoy the video!
Hey Timmy, just want to say I think you are a legend and it's fantastic that you help out us other fishos. I enjoy all of your vids and wish you the best in life! You rock! Cheers - Will
Good tips mate not everyone appreciates the time and effort you have put in to share the knowledge you have. 17 in your first season is a great start I managed 7 this season with minimal outings and I've chased them for years 😂 keep up the videos mate they're entertaining to say the least 👍
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. This year has been my Jack learning year..and I can relate to the falling barometer part.Caught my first and only topwater jack on a rainy night with a low barometer. Will certainly be keen to go out on the next low barometer day and will fish outgoing tides more
Thanks for the tips and I have just started to chase the jacks but we had most of the time we went for flathead and so hopefully those tip will help us catch our first ever jack at the age of 12 so pretty exited after those tips thank and I love your RU-vid channel all the best for it thanks🎣🎣🐠🐟
Good on ya Timmy, never caught a legal Jack in my life, thank you very much for the hints mate, muchly appreciated and keep up the good work, youre a gem son
Thanks for all the vids this season Timmy never even thought about chasing jacks till I saw you on the news and started watching you ever since. Thanks to you I caught my first jack a few weeks ago and she went 51cm and another yesterday 28cm but the season is well and truly dead now. Can't wait for next season and building a pipe raft to fish off too. I think you should do a series next season "fishing with fans" and take one person a week of your choice to fish with you for jacks
Hey Tim I've been fishing for bream on soft plastics for 2 days with my new setup can u give me some advise in techniques and that would be excellent thank you 👍
hey quick question im in maroochydore and never caught a jack so wanting to ask 2 questions Are they good to eat and when i down loaded the fisho app it said they carry some disses. so can or cant you eat them
Hi Timmy, some of your tips have been helpful...... But I've really impressed with the boat that you fish from ....... 5stars brother, and please entertain us with your jack session.....
Brilliant. Just back from Goa where I got completely destroyed by MJ's. Can't believe how mental the takes are and thanks so much for all the tips. Hopefully be a little better prepared next time....
hey bro I've found out fishing for jacks using steel lead really helps . I currently start my jack challenge an I had trouble fishing without steel lead . but I've had two record jack the first is 7lbs and and the second was monster 10.4 lbs I fish in a logoon 6 miles away from my house it comes off the sea.
hey red dog man, love your clips,do you do any live bait fishing for reds?thats all I do up here on the sunshine coast and the fish all seem to be quality.cheers
hey mate cheers glad you are enjoying them! I would throw the cast net away and go and buy a packet of lures. you will not look back. I live baited for two weeks then bought some lures and never used it again. a lot more enjoyable and rewarding when you get a fish :)
Timmy mate if you're fishing the big tides and there's plenty of jelly prawns around chuck on a 4 inch atomic prongs in the clear white-ish colour with a 1/8th 3/0X tt jighead been my go to plastic when the fish are gorging themselves on prawns always produces the goods!!
cheers mate i did pick myself up a packet but didn't give it much use. next season i will definitely give them more of a crack. they look like a good lure
If someone can't catch a Jack after watching your videos then they should quit!!! Great vids mate. Would love your thoughts on my Exploring Noosa film preview if you get 90seconds spare.
I'm in Fiji and love to chase the jacks around the mangrove rivers. When are the jacks running, when is the season and we're do they go in the off time. Trying to figure it out for my waters of Fiji so I can target them accordingly.
during the summer is when the jacks are on. from about october through to may. we recently had a heap of rain so it closed the season about a month ago the water temps never recovered. some jacks will move back out to the ocean some will stay in the rivers creeks and canals but be less aggressive so only feed on bait or live bait. if your lucky you will still get them on lures but we tend to target them when they are really fired up. water temps over 24-25 is what you want hot muggy days
Haven't seen such dedication and seriousness to fishing a species. Also I learned something from your video-that is not to set the drag too tight when setting the hook. I've lost many fish recently. Subbed! Also are you fishing in Florida? Are these fish also called mangrove snapper locally?
+Jan young hey Jan. No fishing Australia. We fish them just about as far south as they go so can be very hard to temp some days. Up north where the waters are always warm they are a lot easier to catch but don't grow as in the estuaries. Mangrove jack in Australia mangrove snapper in Florida. Best fighting fish for there size. And more and more people are chasing them every summer
great video mate! My Grandad and I have been fishing for jacks in Currumbin Creek for years now, we both have cracked a 70cm plus Jack and in our best season, we caught over 32 jacks in just over 3 months. I was only about 10 back then! we fish mainly around the two corners of the first canal and the last bridge before the mouth.
i reckon you could fill your tackle box with basically every lure in the atomic range from there considering all the lures I have lost there along the years and is probably worth about 72 million dollars when taking into consideration the cost of lures these days! And you could become a billionaire with all the tons of lead in sinkers we have lost there as well! :)
would you mind checking out my channel and give me some feedback? i fish a lot around the coast and here in Brisbane and in a lot of places you and Rokkit fish. i started it just the other week cheers!
good videos mate. just put yourself in front of the camera every now and then. people want to relate to the fisherman and get to know you. just start by saying what you are fishing for and how. at the beginning and then thanks for watching at the end. and then as you get use to it you can start to talk more. i think people prefer talking over music but it is very hard to do hahaha ill fish all week and forget to say a word to the camera and then it makes it very hard to make a film. thats why the music goes in haha. do one thing that scares you everyday. i talk to a camera haha good luck with the channel
that was just a picture off google images but you can look up sea water temps there are a few good ones if you search around i don't know any off the top of my head but a friend showed me a good one.
Top marks on not swearing on bust offs. I let it rip. I'll definitely try to looser drag option. Also have you tried just using worm hooks and putting a small sinker in your loop knot. Much cheaper then those snake heads.
In my experience of chasing jacks in north queensland, particularly hinchinbrook they have a 'nasty' habit of circling the bait and grabbing it on the way to their mangrove home. An elusive and worthy fish. As with all members of the lujanit family they are great eating too. Just don't waste any of the fish, steam or deep fry it whole.
Hey Timmy! Had my second session chasin Jacks this morning at Coomera, not even a hit the last 2 sessions! I’m getting a new rod thinking a Daiwa Gen Black either 3-7kg 6.4’ or 4-7kg 6.4’ or 6’ do you have any suggestions? Cheers mate, love your vids
dont stress mate keep trying different spots I have barley had a hit in my last 14 sessions. I use to own the 4-9kg but it snapped when the motor landed on it. it was a perfect rod for jack fishing.
id say a majority came between 8-10. but my mate has got them 12-1 in the arvo so the feed all day. when the sun is highest in the sky good time to hit the potions because the water will be warm and they will be right up underneath them
Fishing With Timmy Turtle legendary mate thanks i only tend to get them late arvo but thats probably because thats when i fish haha. But i have days free in between school hours so i might hit them all day. Cheers mate and thanks. Might bump into you one day see ya.
I went out to a spot last week in Karratha Wa, everyone says it’s “fished out” but I caught 24 jacks in one morning and the biggest was 50cm (catch and release)
I fished the Tiwi islands and had way more fun on the jacks than Barramundi. Over rated i feel. Oh and the smallest i caught was about the size of your biggest. If you can get up there.......
Good stuff mate, what is that reel that you need new bearings for? My mate supplies bearings for reel repairs, I'll hit him up to sort you out, or I'll shout you a set.
thanks mate its a shimano scorpion but its all good ill grab them myself. going to experiment with full ceramic in some places and hybrids in other. see how it goes. thanks heaps for the offer :) appreciate it. sorry the late response I've been meaning to write the response for a while
Fishing With Timmy Turtle no wuckas mate, happy to offer ya. I had a look and can't see that reel on there, he has plenty of shimano sets. I'll shoot him a message and tell him to look at putting them on there. I've got him to do up 10% off for anyone I give a code to, code is "everyrc" plaig.com.au/shop/index.php/bfishing-reel-bearingsb-shimano-bearing-kits-c-62_73
