What on earth is a full stack designer? Maybe you have heard the term full-stack developer, but what is a stack and how does it apply to designers?
Remember to Subscribe goo.gl/6vCw64
Turns out there is such a thing as a full stack designer and it turns out I am one of them. It's really just a term that represents a multi-faceted designer with experience in a breadth of disciplines.
The benefit to a Full Stack Designer is that they can look at a project more holistically because they are thinking about the project from end to end.
This does not mean that they do every single aspect of a project from logo to databases, but it does mean that they have a broad spectrum that they work in.
Full Stack Designers are in demand right now for teams, projects and clients that need people to wear multiple hats, true there are a lot of opportunities to work in a more siloed scenario, but if you like change, challenges and pancakes than this style of work might be for you 😆

I think as a front-end developer you have to improve your skills in front-end frameworks, like Angular as well, because almost every company use it. Btw your content is awesome! Thank you for sharing with us and keep up the good work. Peace

I spent months trying to figure out where I would fit into each one of those job roles: web designer, UX designer who knows UI and vice versa, product designer...I just couldn't figure it out. I thought it would be silly of me to try to learn it all, but this video helped me to understand that it would be valuable for me to gain all of the knowledge I can. Thank you! That's easy...my No.1 go to trick to learn fast is to review how others do it. Search for free scripts. Apply to your site design. When I needto learn fast e.g. bootstrap..just buy those templates so that I will get the code. Review, copy, apply. I apply the same thing when I needed to learn lllustrator and Photoshop. Buy the master files and deconstruct. You will see the thought process involved go create the end product.

No Print or Illustration ? I hate theses full stack [insert trade] trend. We must have multiple trade and guess what ? We don't pay you more. If I had to be a person who knows different trades, I want to be paid for each trade I do.

Yes, and I think that's a real problem today. To use your example with pancakes, when you pay for them, you pay for 1 pancake or the whole stack? You pay for the whole stack. Now designers / full stack developers are paid for 1 job while they do several jobs . What's the next step? When everyone masters several jobs, how will we stand out? By cutting our pay further?
@Cubannerd
@Cubannerd 5 лет назад
@@cryt2801 It can become unsustainable too. I'm at the brink of another burnout because I'm the only one working on everything from concept art/print component design/web design/marketing at the startup I work for. Yes, we're unicorns but it's taxing.

Little late to this but as a full stack myself (UX/UI/html, css, js & php) the print and illustration were the first things that I worked on out of college. And while I have the ability to put together really cool print work-I’m not an elite illustrator nor do I think I ever could be one. You need some basic math skills and a mental framework for coding, but for the most part it can be learned and developed. As can learning how to create personas, and handling user tests, and creating flows and IA docs. All of that I think just about anyone can do really well if they spend tons of time on it. I don’t think bad illustrators ever become good. One of those things you’re born with.

@ Jesse Showalter I know this was made a while a go but what is your opinion on full stack web development bootcamps? I am in one and I find it overwhelming. I have had to start and stop seven times due to medical issues or falling behind in work. Drowning in assignments and being stuck on a code for days waiting for some assistance or to answer my question to only fall even further behind. It feels like I'm stuck as Bill Murray in the film Groundhogs day. However, I refuse to give up. Tenacity is key especially if one wants to be a freelancer. I find it harder than abbreviated college summer courses. I can speak from experience as I almost have my bs in digital media and web technology, and like you said the marketing side is important which is my minor. As you mention this is good for a freelancer to know, which is my career objective. However, making a career change from the medical field to this type of work and striking out on your own is intimidating and scary. Do you have any tips for students and newbies? Is there any communities or mentorships that can be found for new freelancers? I love to create, design, I have taken courses in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe animation, Adobe Photoshop, Basic web design courses, and coding courses. The logic side I find difficult, but I want this bad enough. I'll keep trying at it.

This is fully my own definition... but I would say a Visual designer is more aligned with Graphic and Print design. It's a similar title not on the spectrum of UI/UX/Code etc... So a visual designer would be a multi-faceted designer who is knowledgeable in brands, identities, marketing, print, signage, packaging, etc... again, just my opinion on these loose definitions

I deeply disagree with the definition of a fullstack designer. In the company we define full stack UX and UI and we leave the front and back world to the devs. Why this? in your argue you forgot the testing part in the ux world. the latter is not reduced to the flow of the product, but to research (I imagine accessibility WCAG) to questionnaires, to technological evolution. the UI also needs research (I imagine the creation and expansion of a library) and goes hand in hand with Interaction. In large companies these two sectors are divided into other smaller ones. Furthermore, this argument holds up if you have an idea of what it is how it develops and the relationship with the dev is very important. but knowing how to do everything is foolish: a job could take you 1 year instead of 2 months if supported by professions. having a basic knowledge and then specializing is the best thing!
@nomtijorti
@nomtijorti 5 лет назад
bullshit. It's just another made up term to make ux/ui designers feel as relevant as developers. I started out as a UX/UI designer btw, and then eventually started doing backend using c# and php and sometimes i'll work with angular or vue depending on what project we're working on, heck sometimes i design the ui, code the frontend and code the backend as well, so what does that make me? lol
