I only have models from my first return to the hobby also around 1997-99. If I had my first models it would just make me depressed. My dad was supportive but not THAT supportive. Meaning I got a model or two and my paints and brushes came from the hardware store he worked at. In my second shot at the hobby I was living at a game story (lucky me) so I had access to models and paints and brushes to my hearts content. My skills were pretty good from childhood to young adulthood. Maybe having to use really chunky paints and hair dropping brushes allowed me to do better with hobby minded tools.

Last platic men I bought were 2011 blood angels to be honest :D Being a collector and a painter, more than a player, I did not need to upgrade my collection with new shiny units :) Also, always avoided to replace the old style models with reprints. I happen to trade a few things here and there. If I was to get a new army now, I definetly would choose to sell or swap. Greetings :)

Admittedly, it's an awesome show, and I would love to see Brent make and paint a model of Jason or the hot Danish vampire. But, you should work on your anxiety as well, always remember that 99% of situations that you worry about will be much worse in your head than they are in reality! So we had a big video meet-and-greet with all new hires and the CTO. When I introduced my self I said I painted minis. Got to describe what Blood Bowl is and show off my WIP team of Lizardmen in prep for my first game ever. To a few hundred strangers and got some questions from the CTO what everything was an to give a short description of how the game played. Don't be afraid to share the love of the hobby. Most people with be interested and supportive, and those who don't just failed the 'don't be an a-hole' test and should be ignored!

It was great to hear your story. I'm back into the hobby after an 11 year hiatus. My father and I don't have a good relationship, but as a kid we bonded over painting warhammer together. Going through my old black templars army the other week brought back some very warm memories, remembering the times certain things were painted and the bits dad did for me because they were too detailed. Got me quite emotional, it's time to finish the army.

I 100% relate to your reasons for keeping a lot of the old Dark Eldar warrior models around. I'm the same with the push together space marines and orks models from the 2nd edition boxed game, I still remember the way they made me feel when I first discovered 40k when I saw my cousin unwrapping the 2nd edition box one Christmas when I was 7 or 8 in the early/mid 90's. I really wish I could find the first 40K models I painted though. That box of 5 plastic Space Marines Warriors of the Imperium that was out during 2nd edition. The game box was way too much for me to afford at that age (£50!) but I did eventually manage to scrape together enough pocket money to get that box of space marines and a pot of Ultramarines Blue. My assembly and painting was absolutely terrible but I loved those little guys and was so proud of them. I thought I'd found them this Christmas when I was back at my parents and going through some of my old stuff I came across the box they came in. Sadly they weren't inside it but my pot of Ultramarines Blue was, and is still perfectly useable. I've got it on my painting desk now as I think about what I'm going to paint with it. Anyway, sorry for the nostalgic rambling. Just something I've been thinking about a lot since finding that box a few weeks ago and this video struck a major chord. Thanks for another fantastic video, so great to unwind with after a stressful day at work.

This video was wonderful! I have some half-painted White Lions of Chrace High Elves which I love to bits and hope to repaint properly into an army, or at least a diorama. My husband says with the colors I've put on they're technically tabletop legal. I remember the first time he explained you had to have three colors on your mini to make it legal, and I was just like "why not go Jackson Polluck on them and get three colors on real fast. Boom, army." He was appalled. Now I know the time and dedication that goes into these little guys, and how blasphemous my suggestion really was. Now I'm looking forward to assembling and painting my Sylvaneth army, with some wood elf and high elf friends. Also excited about Pointy Elves!

I've still got all of my minis since the ealry 90's. The paintjobs on the majority of minis from my early days were abysmal so over the years i've gradually been stripping them of paint and re-painting them. It's good to see how you do things differently on the same model after more experience and it also takes you back to those times. I can still vividly remember what music I was listening to when I was painting them back then so I listen to the same music when i'm re-painting them.

I knew nothing about painting but I loved them. Unfortunately I had a falling out with the person who got me into it and I got rid of them all. Fast forward, now I’m 28 and just getting back into it and got the Thousand Suns start collecting box (which are way harder to paint) and I decided to get some advice on painting before starting and your channel is my favorite. It’s almost like wholesome painting ASMR but I wish I did what you suggest and kept my old minis because now I’m really bummed that I don’t have them but on the bright side I’m really proud of my thousand suns are turning out so far and I’ve definitely used some tips I’ve learned from your videos 👍🏻

This was wonderful, every video holds so much info on painting but also so much wholesome narration. Along with the chill music, its just wonderful. I just recently got into painting minis, and i have a lot of fun with it. It's relaxing, and it really helps me unwind after work, much needed time alone to decompress. Flipping on a goobertown video while i paint, its fantastic. Thank you Brent!

Last February, I painted my first mini ever - stormcast's celestar ballista and two crewmembers. The time gap isn't that huge as much as the other experienced painters. But I might go back to stormcasts and try the best I could do. Cheers, Brent. I know it's quite late. But happy new year.

This brought back so many memories. I have very few of my models from my earlier days as when I discovered elite sport and girls it was not cool to be a model painter and I gave them all away apart from the ones no one wanted. You are getting me back into this.

Have only just come across this channel and although I am not a Wargamer it is great to see the modelling and the painting techniques that you have used to make your figures and to paint them. I am into model railways and building model kits to which then require painting. Thank you for such a great video

Thanks for this fun video! This happened to me with a coworker in our machine shop. We were talking about the many uses of a specific tool, of which slips my mind at the moment. As we talked I was thinking that it would work well for assembling minis when he said that he uses his to assemble little models. I asked him with enthusiasm what kind of models and to my delight I found a fellow wargamer. It’s a magical thing finding people who enjoy our hobby. He described his models and I said imperial guard and he was taken back. The next thing you know were talking about the latest edition and how I haven’t played since 6th ed. and that we should schedule a game some time to learn the current edition. Hahahahaha!

I love your videos dude! I've recently got back into Warhammer. Sadly all my old metal Tyranids from the early 2000s have been lost due to moving to different countries but some of my happiest memories are of painting them with my friends and I'd like to thank you for helping me to take that trip down memory lane. Keep being awesome bro.

Ironically when I was younger I had a limited budget, limited paints, limited everything really but had maximum fun. Kind of miss those weekend speed painting sessions with cheap craft paints, and minwax polyshades antique walnut.

Well put, brother. Wonderful advice for those of us in the hobby. It feels good to proudly state to an acquaintance that I play RPGs, build terrain, and paint minis. I'm trying to get some of my friends to come out of the closet and say the same things to their coworkers and colleagues. There is definitely strength in numbers. I think it is more common and accepted now than it ever has been which is great. Thank you for sharing your channel and for imparting a little bit of wisdom along the way as you paint some cool minis.

Hey brent, just a quick thank you for your videos and a short story of my hobby. First of all i really enjoy your content. I like the super laid back style and the general relaxed feel to it. Of course i think your massively talented and i love your approach to the hobby and that you are honest and frank about your passion. I started painting minis with the Lord of the rings strategy game collection. I focused on Uruk Hai back then. I still have the first minis i painted. Although they are painted very clumsy and with only three colors its still all the memories that make me love them. I would never throw these away or repaint them. And yes as you pointed out i can see my progression over the years. I'm still a really average painter but after a long abstinence from the hobby i recently started to paint the warhammer 40k conquest collection minis to enlarge my dark angels army. It became a recreational evening ritual after i bought the newest episode and after i put my lil daughter to sleep. So thanks again for your videos and i hope you can keep that love for minis for a long time to come. Greetings from germany.

I hadn't participated in the hobby for over a decade when my folks dropped off my old white dwarfs at my flat. They wanted to clear the space in the house. I read a few for old times sake and ended up taking one to work to read. Accidently left it on the break table and about half an hour later a new starter came through asking if it was mine, got invited to go over and play. Long story short now I have a newer army and group of really good friends, newer army still isn't fully painted after all these years though, some things never change.

I started painting back in 92' and back then I went to a game convention, I brought a bunch of my minis thinking I could get a couple of crits, there was a competition sponsored by the game workshop. All of the other minis entered were of similar quality to your 13 year old self. I seamed like I was the only one who knew what a wash, or a dry brush was.
