I love this so much. Buffy: "Giles, life has pretty much gone to hell since you left." Giles: *serious Watcher face* Buffy: "And I've been sleeping with Spike." Giles: *tries to be serious, but collapses into uncontrollable giggles* Best reaction ever.
What can You do? Giles never expected buffy to have sex with spike of all people. Spike is the gangs freinemy (ally and foe in 1) but being told your adopted daughter is banging him...... This situation has gone shit. Laugh or cry -it's your choice
Buffy: Anya is a vengeance demon again. Giles: *visible concern* Buffy: Dawn is a klepto Giles: *visible concern* Buffy: Money has been so tight I've been slinging burgers Giles: *visible concern* Buffy: And I've been sleeping with Spike Giles: *absolutely loses his shit to laughter*
It actually was a blooper that they kept in. I doubt someone could fake a laugh as infectious as Tony Head's. It's so cute how he nearly seems to burst laughing.
Season 6 finale. He returns to sunnydale to find that absolutely everything's gone to hell; It's a laugh or cry situation really. Also, season 6 was so ridiculously dark that an injection of humour was desperately needed.
this scene and season 4 when Willow tells them Tara's her girlfriend are tied for my favorite Giles moemnt. And in the background Giles you can hear is like 'Oh my god' they're both so funny. I also like from season 1 when Giles hides in the crypt from a vampire and he's like 'Well i'm not dead or unconsious so I say bravo for me'
When the Librarian formally known as Ripper knew (and Buffy already figured it out from the previous convo), you know you suck as a bestie. Hell, Giles obviously had a lesbian friend or two during his time in the late 70s/early 1981 before Edna (i.e. his grandma) encouraged him to return to the Council to complete his studies after getting the mark of Eygohn* *Never let Disney's fuck-ups w/ Star Wars deter you from expanded material. IDGAF what corp CEP wants to be a "nicer and left leaning" version of The Orange Wanker; he's just as vile as the legitimate one we're stuck with
I love how his real accent slips through in the "I'm sorry" line. And he has such an amazing laugh, it's so infectious. I remember seeing him and Robin Sachs together one time and it was so damn funny!
One of my favorite moments in the series. Giles returns to learn everything went down the hill in such a catastrophic way he cant help but laugh. Then Buffy stops for a breath and realize it too and loses it too. Buffy and Angel are awesome shows
After suspending a crazed and dangerous Willow in a floating, mystical bind, he's just asked Buffy what on earth has been going on around there. Instead of explaining about the nerd trio, how she thwarted their plans and Warren firing a gun and what Willow did to him, etc., etc., she talks about the group's relationship and domestic problems, ending with the most humiliating fact (for her). His laughter is a comment on the ludicrousness of what the main characters get themselves into.
O dear, that was years ago when I got that information. I think it was an interview with Tony or with Joss Whedon, but don't nail me on that. Tony's known as a notorious giggler, I experienced it live. I assume it does happen very rarely while he's working, but when it happens it's like that.
If you knew the whole background and led up to Buffy sleeping with Spike, you'd know how utterly absurd that is. Buffy's speech is funny, and surreal, because she talks about all this personal stuff instead of the tragic death, etc. It's also a lovely contrast with their early relationship, when Giles used to tell her off and give her orders.
My life is not fun right now. Feels about that degree of stuff going on, or not. Lot of stuff not going that I need to be going. Can't get it going because other stuff isn't going. Anyways, I laughed and cried at the same time. So, yeah, you can do both, it's allowed. 🤣😭 Love Giles.
Where do you get the information that it was a blooper? Actors don't generally go on giggling that long when they corpse. One thing is, that IS Tony Head's laugh, and the way he says "sorry" is completely him, not Giles. But then, he was never really Giles anymore after he left in Tabula Rasa.
what an amazing laugh :D i love it you can't help but burst out laughing! i love how his concerned, worried, caring face just dissolves into giggles and then he cant stop...haha i love it and him thanks for posting :D
I thought the nerds were pretty funny, before it all got serious but you're right: by this point there was tragedy everywhere you looked. Thanks for focussing on this moment, by the way :)
I was wondering...Did they write the laughing in or was it a blooper that they thought fit better than whatever was originally written..like when gandalf bumps his head in lotr...that was a blooper they kept... lol Either way this scene makes me cry from laughing so hard every time I see it!
